1 About UNC s Capital Markets Lab (CML) The CML opened in Fall 2008 to provide Kenan-Flagler students and faculty access to high-end financial research tools. The main software applications in the room are: Bloomberg Professional, Factset, and Morningstar Direct. Due to classes held in the room, the CML is mainly available for use during the evenings and on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The doors are open from 7:30 am 9:00 pm Monday Friday and locked on Saturday and Sunday. To access the room after hours, please swipe your UNC Onecard outside of the door across the hall from the International Programs and CML AIM offices. Be sure to Log on to: BUSINESS and not the local CML computer. Click on the Switch User button if you are not prompted to enter your account details. NOTE: If you are from main campus, login with ad\onyen and your password. If you are a business school student, it is best for you to log in with your Business school network account. You will not be able to lock, shutdown or restart the PC once you are logged into the PC. Please do not shutdown the PC since it is part of the UNC Grid Computing system. If you need to restart the PC, log off of your account and then in the Log on to Windows box, click on the Shutdown button and then select Restart from the drop-down box and then click on Ok. Computer and Monitor Settings There are a total of 14 computers in the CML (13 workstations and 1 PC located at the main podium). Additionally, there is one in the AIM Trading Room across the hall, one in the KFBS computer lab on the 1 st floor of McColl, and another in the Park Library of the Journalism school in Carroll Hall. Each computer has 2 monitors which can either be used in Extended Mode (both monitors can be used) or Cloned mode (each monitor is mirrored and displays the same on each one which is good for training). To change the display back and forth, push and hold the Ctrl + Alt + Z buttons at the same time.

2 Shortcuts to Software Applications in the CML The shortcuts for the various software tools in the CML are located on the local hard driver under the C:\CML folder. Some of the files, documentation, and settings for some of the applications are located on the network L: drive. If your L: drive is not mapped, double-click on the shortcut under the C:\CML folder to set this up. Any hacking of passwords or re-installation of any CML application is a violation of the UNC Honor Code. Access logs are tracked when used outside the CML. Also, these systems are for academic purposes only and should not be used for individual trading purposes. Please respect and honor this policy. Accessing Bloomberg Bloomberg Professional is used by over 375,000 subscribers in 160 countries. The system provides realtime and historical financial news and information for central banks, investment institutions, commercial banks, government offices and agencies, law firms, corporations and news organizations. The system covers over 5 million bonds, equities, commodities, currencies and funds. Approximately 52,000 companies and stories are covered each day. To access Bloomberg, double-click on the Bloomberg icon C:\CML folder. on the desktop or under the For quickly logging in, there is a generic Bloomberg account for each computer. The account details are located on the top of the left monitor next to the computer number (i.e. UCML7 with the password of kfbs). You may also create a personal Bloomberg account so you can customize your settings (this is highly recommended). Follow the steps below to create a personal Bloomberg account login: 1) Open Bloomberg, and click on the blue link Press Enter or <GO> to begin 2) Click on the blue link Create a New Login near the bottom left of the screen. 3) Click on the No radio button next to the Have you been a Bloomberg client? Question and click on the grey 1) Continue button on the bottom right. 4) Fill out your name and password details and type in your work number and mobile number. Enter your UNC address for your Corporate Address and click on the 1) Continue button on the bottom right. 5) Select the radio button next to how you would like to receive either a SMS Text Message or Automated Voice Call with a unique Bloomberg Validation code and click on the 1) Send Code button. 6) Then enter the 4-digit validation code and click on 1) Continue button to validate the code. 7) An auto-generated username will be created. To change it, click on the 1) Change your login name link. Input a name and push the Enter\<GO> key to see if it s available. 8) To log in with your new account, click on the 2 <Go> to Login link at the top left of the screen. 9) Once logged in, Bloomberg will auto-set your country to the US and your time Zone to Eastern Time. If no changes are needed, click on the 1<Go> to Save link at the top left. 10) To make changes to your other personal default settings, enter PDF <GO>.

3 Bloomberg Quick Tips, Help, Documentation and Bloomberg Essentials When beginning Bloomberg, you can type in a company, person, economic data, etc. and Bloomberg will auto-fill possible suggestions. For example, if you type unemployment and wait for the autocomplete to fill in, Bloomberg will suggest the following functions WPU Global Population & Unemployment, NI UNEMPLOY Scrolling News: Unemployment, ECFC Economic Forecasts (Time of Unemployment), GEW Global Economy Watch, etc. Once auto-complete is loaded, select a command from the list by clicking on it. If you have any questions about a specific screen you are on, you can push the green <HELP> key locater on the top left corner of the keyboard for an overview\help document of the screen. Another good way to start using Bloomberg is to push one of the Yellow sector keys (i.e. F8 for Equity) and then pushing the green <GO> key. A screen like below will appear. Once at this screen, you can click on the Main Headings (i.e. 3) Market Surveillance, 7) Top-Down Analysis, 11) Idea Generation, etc.) or type in the number for the heading followed by the green <GO> key for more screens under this heading. You can also type in one of the capitalized commands you see on the screen (i.e. WEI Equity Markets Overview) and push the green <GO> key or click on the codes as well. Once you end up on a specific screen, if you would like to go back to it without going through the menus, you will notice the screen name capitalized in the top middle like below. Therefore, if you logged in later, you would type EA <GO> to get back to the Earnings Analysis screen.

4 If you need more personal assistance, a Bloomberg support representative is available for you to submit a questions. To ask them a question at any time, push the green <HELP> key twice quickly and you will be able to ask a question to the Bloomberg Help Desk. They used to provide 24/7 support so once you submit a request, they will follow up within a day. This is free so you can use this as often as you would like. A variety of tip sheets for Bloomberg are available on the CML Intranet site at cml.unc.edu/bloombergdocs. Also, an excellent Bloomberg Student Guide is located at These are also located under L:\students\CML\Documentation\Bloomberg. Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) The Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) is a Finance training certificate from Bloomberg. It is a 8-hour, self-paced e-learning course that consists of 4 modules Economics, Currencies, Fixed Income and Equities. Each of these topics are woven together from Bloomberg data, news, analytics, and television. The concepts complement coursework with case studies and examples and teaches practical know-how to help you learn and prepare for interviews as well. No prior knowledge of Bloomberg is required. Functions will be covered, but the focus is more on the financial markets. To receive the BMC certificate, you must complete all sections and approximately 100 questions across all four modules. To start the BMC, just type BMC <GO> while logged into Bloomberg. Create your account with your UNC , confirm your address from the message sent from Bloomberg, and then go back to BMC and log in with your account. NOTE: You will only be able to view the BMC through a Bloomberg terminal.

6 Bloomberg Alerts, Economic News, Daily Updates Bloomberg provides a great amount of data, news, etc. that you can receive updates on. 1) First Word - First Word provides summary insights on the equity markets (U.S., European, and/or Asian) and the fixed income markets (credit and rates). Stories are summarized into bullet points for quick reading and include updates on press releases, important media reports, analyst ratings, and other key developments so you can stay on top of the news of the moment. Follow the directions below to access First Word alerts. a. Type in FIRS and the Enter\<GO> key. Click on 3) Actions and select Show Suggested Alerts The main alert is for US Daybook. You can also select other areas such as IPOs, Energy, Tech, Europe, Asia, etc. Then click on the 1) Save grey button. Also, you can search on other Topics (such as Economy) and Industries (such as Technology) and then click on 3) Actions, and select Set Alert on Current Search. 2) If you want to receive Economic data as it is released, go to ECO. Click on the 3) Alerts button. Click on the R column header to show the most relevant news releases. Anything with 4 bars is an important economic release. To subscribe, click on the check box after the #) for each release and then click the red 5) Set Alerts button at the top. Click on the check box next to On Release and then click the 1) Save button. Once you set up these alerts, you can setup forwarding for your Bloomberg account. To set this up, follow the directions below: 1) Type in SPDL and the Enter\<Go> key, to access the Contact List. 2) Click on the red 90) New Contact button, type in your UNC account, and click on 1) Add button. Note the ID in the summary window on the right (it is usually the first 8 characters of your address before sign) 3) Type in MGU and click on the 14) Auto-Copy & Out-Copy link. Select the check box next to Always Copy to and type in your ID for your account you want to forward to.

7 Bloomberg Briefs Bloomberg now provides excellent briefs created by market experts. To access them, go to BRIE. Currently there are 19 pdf reports released daily and weekly. If you subscribe, the links are send to the briefs. If you setup your Bloomberg to forward on, you can get these sent to another account for you to access them. These briefs include: Economics (Daily), Economics Europe (Daily), Economics Asia (Daily), Hedge Funds (Weekly on Tuesday), Hedge Funds Europe (Weekly on Friday), Private Equity (Weekly on Wednesday), Mergers (daily), Bankruptcy (Daily), Leveraged Capital (Daily), Municipal Market (Daily), Structured Notes (Weekly on Thursday), Regulation (Weekly on Friday), Clean Energy & Carbon (Weekly on Monday), Technicals (Varies), China (Weekly on Monday), Oil Buyer s Guide (Daily), London (Daily), Germany (Weekly on Monday), Reserve (Wine and Dine Guide) (Monthly, Real Estate (quarterly) Corporate Treasury (quarterly ), ETFs (monthly), Pipes & Wires (daily), Latin America(bi-weekly), Sustainable Finance (weekly), Sub-Saharan Aftica (bi-weekly), and Hedge Funds Asia (weekly). Below is an example of the Economics brief which are usually pages.

8 Bloomberg Excel Plug-in Bloomberg provides an Excel plug-in to pull down data and create your own models. Once in Excel, you should see the plug-in appear like below. If you do not see the plug-in when you are in Excel, close out of Excel and then run the Bloomberg Excel plug-in Install program - under the C:\CML folder. Once you run it, click on Install, OK, and then Close and it will install properly. The BUSINESS school network only allows LOCAL profiles so it is probably best to use the same computer consistently or else you might need to reload the plug-in. If the plug-in still doesn t appear, you will need to check to see if it is disabled. To check on this, click on the File menu in the top left corner and select the button in the bottom left. Then click on Add-Ins on the left menu, and in the Manage: option box, select Disabled Items and then click on Go. Excel Tools is disabled, select it and then click on the Enable button. PowerPoint As of Summer 2015, Bloomberg has a limited toolbar for PowerPoint which allows you to embed charts in your presentations. These charts become static images once inserted which can be updated only on a Bloomberg terminal. More features might be coming soon, but at this time advanced features are only available for Bloomberg Anywhere customers (only 1 login per terminal).

9 Accessing FactSet Factset is a complete solution for real-time analytics, research, and market data. FactSet s business is built on the creative use of technology and dedication to client service. Their tools enable firms to control and customize data and they are considered to be the gold standard in the financial industry. Each computer in the CML has an individual license to access Factset on the local PC. To open Factset, double-click on the new Factset shortcut - under the C:\CML folder. By default, Factset opens the Academic workspace (as shown below). Other workspaces such as Corporate Finance M&A US, Equity Research & Sales US, Trader, - US, Wealth Management US, etc. are available to load and customize as well. To load another workspace, click on the wrench icon (located on the top right corner, select Workspace, and then Open. Then click on Factset: under Open Workspace and select the workspace you would like to use and then click Open in the top right. To have this load up as your default workspace, click on Wrench icon > Workspace > Save Workspace As Save it under your Personal: folder to access it on this same computer again. To open this on other UNC computers with Factset, use the search icon, search and select File Manager and move the Workspace from the Personal: area to the Client: area.

10 Factset help and documentation are located under the? icon (shown to the right). From this, you can access the Online Assistant, elearning, etc. A variety of tip sheets and documentation for Factset are available on the CML Intranet site at cml.unc.edu/factsetdocs. These are also located under L:\students\CML\Documentation\Factset. Click on the + icon in a workspace (on far right side) to add new worksheets to your view. Once in a specific worksheet, you can add different components by selecting them from the main F icon. Please Note: If you try to open Factset and nothing happens, check to make sure the application is not running in the background. You will be able to find this out if you see a Factset icon on the bottom right of the Windows toolbar If that is the case, double-click on the icon and Factset will open.

Distributed to your in-box before the markets open, this newsletter prepares you for the start of a successful day. Click on the search icon located in the top left corner, search for DJ North American and select it. Now, under the NEWSLETTERS section on the left, click on the blue + subscribe button. You can then select the checkbox next to Tomorrow s News Today, Tomorrow s News Today: Canadian Markets Focus, and North American Morning Briefing. Enter your contact details and click on the Subscribe button.

12 Factset PowerPoint, Word, and Excel Plug-ins PowerPoint Word Excel In each of these programs, a toolbar like above will be displayed. Some issues exist with the Excel plugin. If you do not see the toolbar or it is not functioning correctly, first try closing out of Excel and running the shortcut under the C:\CML folder and/or follow the Bloomberg Excel directions above to check your add-ins to see if the toolbar is disabled for some reason. When updating data, be sure to click on the down button under the Refresh icon and select All ActiveGraphs/Formulas (in Powerpoint and Word) or All =FDS Codes (in Excel). For an overview of the Factset Excel Tools, please review the guide at cml.unc.edu/factsetexcel. You can create your own custom models\presentations using these Office programs. You can start from scratch or look over some templates to help guide you. Factset provides integration with a variety of data vendors. UNC does not have access to all the providers and within Factset you will be notified if you cannot access the data. A variety of Excel templates are available under the Quick Report tool-bar icons.
