Getting Better Postage Discounts with Walk Sequence Presenter Kristen Gregerson Data Services Manager
By using the Walk Sequence add-on, our Standard mailing price per piece is more competitive and the savings potential on some mailers is simply amazing. Ryan Paterick of Ironwood Lithographers in Tempe
What You Will Learn Today What is Walk Sequence? How will it benefit my business? Categories of Automation discounts Optimizing savings potential Myths and misconceptions about better rates What can qualify?
What is Walk Sequence? Walk Sequencing is the act of sorting a list into the order a carrier walks their route for the day Enables significant postage savings for qualifying mailings USPS will sort your mailing into Walk Sequence order if you do the work, you get higher discounts! The result is achieving discounts that go deeper than 5-digit automation!
Benefits of Walk Sequence Competitive advantage offer better rates than your competitors and win more bids! Resell opportunity! charge a service fee and increase your profits Send more pieces when the size of a mailing is limited by the postage budget, reducing postage/piece will increase the number of pieces you can mail Save money!
Presort: Back to the Basics Before we get any further with information on enhanced carrier route discounts, let s get back to the basics! Your postage rates will vary depending on The class of mail that you are sending How many pieces you are sending Where the recipients of the mail are located AND where you are dropping the mail off
Typical Automation Requirements Standard Mail Letters and flats: 200+ pieces First-Class Mail Letters, postcards and flats: 500+ pieces Periodicals One bundle
Typical Automation Discounts 5-digit 150+ pieces (a complete tray) going to the same 5-digit ZIP code 3-digit 150+ pieces going to the same first 3-digits of several ZIP codes AADC (Automated Area Distribution Center) 150+ pieces going to a general distribution center, mix of ZIP codes Mixed AADC Anything left over that is under 150 pieces and can t complete a tray
Higher Discounts for Entry Points NDC (Network Distribution Center) Strategically located to serve a region as a centralized mail processing and transfer point for 2 or more SCF areas SCF (Sectional Center Facility) Postal facility that serves as the processing and distribution center for one-five 3-digit ZIP code areas You get better entry rates through an SCF because they are closer to most of the final destination points
More Density, Deeper Discounts High-Density 125 pieces per carrier route Saturation 75% of carrier routes with businesses & residences 90% of a purely residential carrier route Periodicals and Standard Mail letters and flats First-Class Mail does not qualify
How Much Deeper?* Increase discounts on qualified mailings At least 4.3 cents per piece Up to 15.6 cents per piece! A minimum of 12 cents per flat! You could save thousands of dollars annually! *Over regular 5-digit Automation rates
Two More Discount Levels These are discounts that the majority of mailers are not actively trying to obtain on every mailing The PAVE presort process does not append the Walk Sequence data necessary to get the deepest discounts High Density and/or Saturation You either have Walk Sequence numbers on your list(s) or you don t We will discuss how to get these discounts and the necessary data to properly presort
Walk Sequence In Action Walk Sequence makes us very competitive in the market place. Using Walk Sequence helps us save one of our customers $50,000 a year in postage. Thad Ludwiczak, Partner, Do-Good.Biz Small, high-frequency mailers are 98% of Thad s business sending pieces at a time Works with local businesses, government and other neighborhood associations Customers get to use their OWN lists!
Standard Mail Letters Pricing Entry Discount Saturation High-Density 5-Digit Automation Savings Potential Per Piece None $0.185 $0.199 $0.242 $ $0.057 DNDC $0.152 $0.166 $0.209 $0.043-$0.057 DSCF $0.142 $0.156 $0.199 $0.043-$0.057 Save up to $57 per thousand pieces over regular 5-digit Automation!
Standard Mail Flats Pricing Entry Discount Saturation High-Density 5-Digit Automation Savings Potential Per Piece None $0.197 $0.224 $0.353 $0.129-$0.156 DNDC $0.164 $0.191 $0.320 $0.129-$0.156 DSCF $0.154 $0.181 $0.310 $0.129-$0.156 Save up to $156 per thousand pieces over regular 5-digit Automation!
Misconceptions about Saturation and High-Density Discounts The entire list has to qualify FALSE. Segments of a list may qualify the savings can still be huge! The list is too small to qualify FALSE. Qualification is based on the number of pieces in a route not the size of the list as a whole The entire database would have to be processed to get savings FALSE. Process per mailing for top savings
Mailings that Typically Qualify Dense local mailings targeting: ZIP codes Neighborhoods Cities Counties Types Promotions for local businesses, election mailings, community service announcements, utility notifications, etc.
How does Walk Sequence Work? Our service calculates the position for each address and appends a Walk Sequence number The presort process uses this number to sort addresses and generate the correct paperwork The Walk Sequence number is unique to the list and must be recalculated every 90 days You can t append Walk Sequence data to a database and pull smaller lists from it
Sample Paperwork: Part C Qualifies for discounts!
What About EDDM? Every Door Direct Mail Very impersonalized, not the right solution for every mailing Designed for flat-size mail pieces No names or addresses; postal routes only Might work great for a local restaurant trying to reach the area
How Do I Append Walk Sequence? Walk Sequence append is an additional service available through: Bulk Mailer Business & Professional Web Services API for automated processing Depending on how many records you want to process, we can help you find a scalable solution that best fits your needs
Fun Fact! Bulk Mailer has an unlimited Walk Sequence option, very similar to the POPULAR unlimited Move Update add-on! No minimum fees process any size list Increase postage discounts Be more competitive in your market One flat annual price
How Do I Know If My Lists Qualify? As your partner in the mailing industry, we at Satori Software want to help you improve your business and save money! Let us help you determine the potential savings for your lists!
Next Steps 1. Sign up for a one-week free trial of Walk Sequence processing Or 2. Send 3 5 lists for a savings evaluation kgregerson@satorisoftware.com to get started
Q&A Thank you we appreciate your time! Please take time to complete our short survey so that we can continue to improve the quality of our webinars Kristen Gregerson Data Services Manager x2881
