2 Videos go online, but where? There are two BIG players, YouTube & Vimeo, and a lot of other smaller guys.

3 Vimeo An artist s paradise? Service is considered to be more of an artistic outlet for small film makers, music videos, and arthouse films.

4 YouTube by the numbers 48 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. Every day, more than 3 billion videos are viewed. More video is uploaded to YouTube in 60 days than the three major U.S. networks created in 60 years. 70% of YouTube traffic comes from outside the U.S. YouTube is localized in 25 countries across 43 languages. 5 So how do they compare? Content Restrictions While it seems as if YouTube will allow anything to be uploaded, they do have some restrictions. YouTube: No videos including defamation, pornography, copyright violations or anything that encourages criminal behaviour. Vimeo: Now allow any commercial videos, gaming videos, pornography or anything not created by the users.

6 So how do they compare? Quantity or Quality? By the numbers, YouTube is king. YouTube s 2 million minutes of new content daily easily trumps Vimeo s 13,000 daily uploads. But, sometimes less is more. Depends on what you re looking for. Quality or quantity? Most of the videos uploaded on Vimeo are in HD.

7 So how do they compare? Uploading Content Both offer simple upload systems BUT: The difference between the two lies in how big of a file, and how long of a video you can upload. YouTube: Videos cannot exceed 10 minutes in length and 2GB in size. (Unlimited with a director or partner s account) Vimeo: No cap on the length of video that a user can upload. However, videos cannot be larger than 1GB, and users can only upload 500MB per week with a basic account. (Can pay for a premium unlimited account)

8 So how do they compare? Social Community YouTube users tend to be much more critical of your videos, whereas.. Vimeo users compliment each other and show appreciation for the content posted. If you can take criticism, go for YouTube. But, if you re looking to share with a a more forgiving audience, Vimeo is for you.

9 So how do they compare? Visual Interface Side by side, most people find YouTube very cluttered. The constant ads and annoying annotations (those tacky speech bubbles that always pop up over your video) are the two most hated features on YouTube. With Vimeo, once you hover the mouse off of the player, the volume control, play button, pause button, embed button, share button everything disappears, giving the video player a much nicer, cleaner look.

10 So how do they compare? Good for Business? It depends! YouTube has the reach, but Vimeo has the quality.

13 FAQ: Tags and keywords 1. Make sure your tags are relevant to your content.seems obvious but this takes some thought to get into the minds of users similar to keyword discovery. 2. The more tags the merrier. I see no penalty for using all your available tag space. 3. Spread your tags out among your clips. Adding more tags can help snag some tail. 4. Use adjectives. Remember lots of folks are browsing and they ll use adjectives to find what they are in the mood to view. 5. Have some category descriptor tags. It s important to remember YouTube s default search settings are Videos, Relevance and All Categories. 6. Match your title and description with your most important tags. Basic SEM practice applies here as well. 7. Don t use natural language phrases and waste tag space on words like and or to.
