P a g e 1 Viewline CCTV reporting software Quick Guide. Follow these simple steps to get started with Viewline. This information is aimed at new users who have recently purchased Viewline or are trialling our CCTV reporting product. Before we start the following should be checked: You have correctly installed Viewline on a Windows computer, (Windows 7 or Windows 8). The machine is virus free and Windows is up to date. You have an activation dongle and it is plugged in. If you report from saved video files then you will need these. If you report live from site you will need some additional equipment. We will cover this later in this guide. Contents To create a New Project (a new report):... 2 Project Manager... 3 New Section... 4 Detailed Header Entry... 5 Newly created section view Video footage - General... 7 Recording live footage... 8 Saving Live Footage... 9 Attaching recorded video files Playing recorded video files Video Issues Adding an Observation Adding a grabbed photo Changing the finish position/distance
P a g e 2 To create a New Project (a new report): 1. Click on 'New Project'. 2. Type in the name of the project. 3. Click 'Create'. (As you can see we are numbering actions on the image according to the order they are carried out.). The project will be saved to the destination selected.
P a g e 3 Project Manager The Project Manager allows you to enter or edit your company details as well as Site and Client information. 1. This is the selected contractor, this will normally be your company. We have a dummy company called 'ACME' already installed, so we'll leave this for training purposes. 2. Clicking 'Contractor Manager' allows you to Edit your company's details, including your company Logo. 3. The two tabs next to 'Project' can be opened to edit 'Site' and 'Client' details. 4. Clicking 'Ok' will save the project details. The information entered in Project Manager will form the front page of the report.
P a g e 4 New Section So now we have created a Project or at least given our Project a name and added some detail. Viewline will look like this. We're now ready to create the first section. A section is a surveyed length, from manhole to manhole for example. 1. Click the New Section button to begin.
P a g e 5 Detailed Header Entry This is the Detailed Header Entry Form, this is where you add manhole reference details. 1. You must enter a Start Reference. (Normally the start manhole). 2. You must enter a Finish Reference. (Normally the finish manhole). 3. Click on these tabs to add more information. 4. Save on completion. The more information the better but for the purposes of this tutorial you don't need to add any more information. When you start the next Header Form you will see that a lot of the information will be retained, saving on duplication. You can edit the Header information at any time by double clicking it or Right Click and select Edit.
P a g e 6 Newly created section view. You have just created your first header. You will now see the following: 1. The short description of the header. If you double click on this, the full header can be viewed and you can change any information and then save it. 2. Three observations are already created; the Start reference, Water Level and Finish reference. These will always be required on every survey. 3. To add an Observation you can click on the 'New Observation' button. 4. If you are reporting live (you must have the 'Live' button pressed at the top of the video pane) you will see an image from your camera system. If you are reporting from a saved video file you should have the 'Video' button pressed. (Located at the top of the video pane).
P a g e 7 Video footage - General Video footage can be viewed in two ways, either live footage from your camera system or from video files that have been saved to a memory stick or similar. We will concentrate on live reporting before looking at reporting from recorded material. If you are reporting live it is important that your video capture device is installed correctly. We recommend reporting live and connecting the video out from your camera system to a USB video capture card connected to your computer. This way video can be recorded directly into the program and observation pictures attached to observation details. We supply whitelisted video capture devices, cables and adapters which are optimized for our software but there are other capture devices available and should work well. Ensure you have your capture device set-up correctly. If you can't see an image in the video pane then it is likely you have not configured your device (or it's driver) correctly. Also make sure you have the 'Live' button pressed. More information concerning connecting a video capture device is available here.
P a g e 8 Recording live footage Once you have live footage showing then recording whilst reporting is straightforward. 1. You have the 'Live' button selected and you can see live footage. 2. Click on the 'Record' button. Now you watch the live footage while recording. When you want to make an observation then you will want to stop the camera first. You may wish to pause the recording as well but don't forget to continue the recording before the camera starts moving again.
P a g e 9 Saving Live Footage When you have come to the end of the surveyed length you will want to save the recording to the active header: 1. Make sure the header (surveyed length) you want to save to is selected. 2. Then select 'Save to active header'. Obviously this would be saved at the end of the survey after you have made all your observations and added any pictures.
P a g e 10 Attaching recorded video files. If you are reporting from an already saved video clip then the process is slightly different. Before we go through the process it is important that you have recorded and saved a video clip/file per length surveyed (for example a survey from Manhole 1 to Manhole 2 would be one file and the survey from Manhole 2 to Manhole 3 would be another video file). The steps are as follows. 1. Create the section header for the survey and make sure it is highlighted. This will be the section you are attaching video to. 2. Make sure the 'Video' button at the top of the video pane is selected. 3. Click on 'Open' and navigate to the location of your video files. Once you have found the relevant video file just click 'Open' and the file will be attached to the selected header.
P a g e 11 Playing recorded video files. You should see something like this: 1. When a video has been successfully attached you will see a 'tick' in the video column. 2. The first frame of the video file should display. 3. To play the video just click on the play icon, bottom left.
P a g e 12 Video Issues. Not seeing a video or is there some kind of error message? This might be due to codecs, different codecs are required for different video file formats and if you're not seeing a video file it's probably because you haven't got the right codec installed. There is a simple method of resolving this and that is by installing just about all the codecs available onto your computer using the K-Lite Mega Codec pack. Details are available from our website on the 'First Steps' page or follow the instructions below. Viewline will import just about any video file but not all. There are a vast array of video file formats and your computer requires the codec for each. The easiest way of achieving this is by downloading and installing the K-Lite Mega Codec pack, this normally resolves any video issues. (This program is advertising supported and may offer to install third party programs that are not required for the program to run. These may include a toolbar, changing your homepage, default search engine or other third party programs. Please watch the installation carefully to opt out). You just need to download and install the codec pack, nothing more needs to be done, you should be able to view the video file afterwards.
P a g e 13 Adding an Observation. Now that we can view video footage, whether live or recorded, we are in a position to stop at a defect and make an observation. (If you are recording a survey and saving to memory stick we recommend that you stop for 2 seconds at each defect/observation to make it clear there is an issue). The process is the same for Live or Video playback, when you want to make an observation click on the green 'New Observation' button and the 'Observation Input' window will appear. 1. Click the 'New Observation' button. 2. Type in the defect/observation code. 3. Add the attributes to that code. Required attributes are highlighted in green. 4. Click 'Save'.
P a g e 14 Adding a grabbed photo. Adding a picture to that observation is very easy: 1. You will see the highlighted observation you have just made. 2. Click the 'Capture' button. 3. A picture will then be grabbed from the video and will show in the image pane. 4. A tick is also placed against any observation with an image attached.
P a g e 15 Changing the finish position/distance. Continue adding observations until you get to the end of the survey. When you have reached the end you will notice that the last observation, the finish node (normally MHF), is shown at the same position (distance) as the second to last observation. You will need to change this as the finish position is probably something else. To change the finish position do the following: 1. Right click or double click the observation. 2. Select 'Edit'.
P a g e 16 The Observation Input window will be revealed and you can: 1. Change the 'Position' (distance). 2. And 'Save'. You can do this at any time on any observation and any section header. So if you want to change the information details of any Observation or any Header all you have to do is either right click and edit or just double click, adjust the information and then change. As you have been completing these steps, the project database you created has been populated with the information you submitted. This project database is saved wherever you saved the project. The next step is to create a report from that information. We will cover report creation in a separate guide.
