FOREWARD Vemotion specialise in the acquisition of analogue and IP video streams, compressing via H264 and transmission of high quality video over low bandwidth and unreliable networks, as well a cost effective delivery over high bandwidth providers. These networks include, but are not limited to Cellular, Satellite and broadband bearers. Vemotion gives the ability to switch dynamically between low and high bandwidth video streams, adjusting the video quality to suit. HD 1080p streams are catered for and ONVIF compatibility allows integration into Video Management Software (VMS) platforms. Viewing the transmitted stream can be done via a multitude of platforms, from mobile phones to command and control rooms. This handbook provides a reference for users of the Vemotion applications. It aims to help you install and set up the Vemotion software. The system is flexible and may be tailored to meet specific business requirements. For further details or if you need any extra support please contact Vemotion. HOW DOES VEMOTION WORK? Vemotion specialise in innovative video compression enabling multiple live video channels to be transmitted to a server and then multi cast to a platform of your choice. You can allocate available bandwidth between channels, increasing picture resolution to view a scene of particular interest. VEMOTION SOFTWARE There are many software applications that work in conjunction with one another allowing video streams to be taken from any source and transmitted to the viewing client. 5
Vemotion Video Server (VVS) The VVS allows you to program how many cameras you wish the Encoder to have access to by adding a channel per camera. The VVS also allows you to record the camera of your choice at the specific resolution, bit rate & frame rate desired. It also permits you to add either analogue or IP Cameras. It then sends the streams to the Vemotion Encoder software to begin processing. Vemotion Encoder (VE) The Vemotion Encoder transcodes live video captured from the camera into highly-compressed data finding a perfect balance between quality and compression. Local User Interface (LUI) VB3X Viewer The VB3X viewer will allow you to connect directly to the Vemotion Video Server to enable a live stream from the camera to be viewed on the Hardware Encoder itself acting as a PC or to enable the video feed to be viewed on an HD screen. Vemotion Streaming Server (VSS) The Vemotion Stream Server is used to consolidate and distribute the Vemotion video streams. 6
Vemotion V264 Player and Vemotion Viewer This is the software that displays the live video on the viewing device of your choice, be it CCTV control rooms, PC, laptop or Android & ios phones or tablet. The software not only displays the live video, it also enables various control options. Vemotion Android Encoder (VB-10) This Vemotion Android Encoder will allow your phone to become the Encoder and stream video to the Streaming Server. Vemotion Proxy This software allows connection to a network video stream from the Vemotion Streaming Server from ONVIF/RTSP and web clients. These clients can be viewing management software, to recording devices and the video stream is in an open format compared to the stream that is viewed within the Vemotion Viewers and Players. 7
Vemotion VB-10 Android Encoder Support Guide VB-10 ANDROID ENCODER OVERVIEW The Vemotion VB-10 Encoder is an app that allows the user to encode and transmit live video from the camera on the mobile phone to the Vemotion Streaming Server in a remote location. The VB-10 Encoder is an android or IOS based software app that can be installed on any suitable android or IOS phone. This means that, in many cases, where existing mobile handsets exist, no additional hardware is required. The Vemotion VB-10 Encoder works in conjunction with the Vemotion Streaming Server (VSS) and Vemotion viewing clients in order to produce a complete end-to-end solution for streaming video. This user guide will assume that all relevant hardware and software requirements / dependencies have also been installed and are working correctly. Minimum Specification This Support Guide was based on a Samsung Smartphone when written. PC IE11, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera Android Chrome INSTALLING THE VB-10 ENCODER Download the Android Encoder app and Install file to the mobile device, either over the network from or from an SD card. 8
When downloaded it will ask if you would like to install this application. Click Install. Once finished it will say App Installed Click Open. Allow the Vemotion encoder to Access, photos, media and files on your device. To take pictures and record vide. To record Audio. To make and manage phone calls. To access the devices location. Allow display over other apps If any problems are encountered during the install check that no existing versions of the application are installed and running. Go to Settings Applications App manager All applications and locate the Vemotion Android Viewer and select if it exists. If the application is running Click Force Stop. Then click Uninstall Retry installing the new version of the application. If problems still exist then contact Vemotion support. You may see For security, your phone is set to block installation of apps obtained from unknown sources Click settings and turn on Unknown sources The app should automatically run. Menu Button 9
The three dots top right of your screen is the menu button. When clicked it will bring up the Preferences, Stream Profiles, Exit and About. Preferences Click on Preferences. To set the encoder up we must first add the Streaming Server details. Select Server will already be set to Server 1. So tap edit servers Edit servers 10
Edit Servers This allows the user to pre-configure up to three servers. By selecting Edit Servers this allows you to input the important data which will allow the Vemotion streaming Server and the VB-10 to connect. Server Address This must be set to the IP address or the domain name of the server upon which the Vemotion Streaming Server (VSS) is installed. If you are being hosted by Vemotion these details should have been sent to you. This can be entered as the DNS also, i.e. vma.vemotion.com. There must be an IP connection route between the mobile handset and the server for a connection to be established. Server Port This is the connection port that the Vemotion Streaming Server will accept encoders on. The default port is 8000 but can be changed to match the server if not default. Connection Type This allow the user to set the required level of encryption for the connection. The type of encryption set must match that which is set in the server. Default server port will change to Stream ID The stream ID must match a stream ID configured on the VSS to accept and identify the particular instance of the VB-10 Encoder. If the stream ID does not match that on the VSS then the connection will be refused by the VSS. If you are being hosted by Vemotion these details should have been sent to you. Once this is all added in click back and you should connect 11
Return to the main Preferences screen to configure the following; Application Settings Background Video Background video needs to be enabled to allow the application to continue streaming whilst other applications are being used. In this mode, when the app is in the background, a small video preview window will be visible, indicating that the app is still active. Be sure to open the app again and exit properly if desired. 12
For example, the user can make a call whilst encoding video. This function requires a minimum 3G connection for concurrent transmission of video and voice. If using a 2G connection the video transmission will stop whilst voice is transmitted. Hide Background Video This would normally be ticked if the VB-10 encoder is being used for covert operations. By ticking this box the application will run in the background as above but will not show the video preview window. Run on Boot Run on boot means the app will run as soon as the phone is booted up Auto Connect The app can be configured to connect to the VSS as soon as it is launched. This setting can be toggled here. Screen Orientation The screen orientation can be set to portrait or landscape. Left Handed User The encoder can be configured for left handed users hers. In landscape mode the encoder function keys will be move to the left hand side of the screen. Enable PTT This enables the ability to PTT (Push To Talk) and speak to the person viewing the video stream. The voice is sent over the data network thus negating the requirement to make a call. Enabling Audio and GPS location 13
Enable Audio Stream This enables audio to be streamed along with the video and be heard on the Windows V265 player. Enable Bluetooth Mic If you want an external Microphone this can be enabled though this tick box Send Location If the phone has GPS enabled then the coordinates can be sent to the viewing client to enable a location to be established on a map in the Windows V264 player. This can be found in the properties section of the V264 player under GPS status. Double click on the coordinates to bring up the map and GPS location. Edit Profiles Different video profiles can be set in this section or you can maintain the default set. The higher the default profile the better quality picture will be transmitted and the more bandwidth will be used. Edit Profiles Different video profiles can be configured in this section. Select Edit Profiles 14
The following options can now be configured for each profile. Auto-Generate Check this box if you would like the app to auto generate the profile name from the settings you configure for the profile. The profile name will be presented to the user whenever a profile selection operation is carried out. Name If you want to set a specific name to identify the profile, rather than the auto-generated option, set it here. Frames per second Set the target number of frames per second of the video encoding here. Bitrate The target bitrate that will be used in video encoding can be set here. Value is measured in Kbps (kilobits per second). Resolution The resolution, or dimensions, of each video frame can be configured here. Choose between 176x144 (also known as QCIF), 352x288 (also known as CIF), measured in pixels, width and height. Highest resolution is 640x360 (16:9) Video Source Settings Video Source Allows you to choose which camera you wish to stream. This can be the built in camera in the phone or you have the option to use a remote camera streaming over Wi-Fi or on connected directly to the phone. For the external camera Wi-Fi options you must also input the URL of the camera stream. Options are found below: 15
Edit IP Camera URLs This gives you the capability to add the URL of the External IP camera Default Source In the Source URL type in the URL of the camera stream RTSP Mode If the camera is fitted directly to the phone use hardware mode. If the camera is streaming over Wi-Fi use highlight the software mode. Time/Date Overlay If you wish the time and date to be streamed along with the video tick this box. 16
Recording Enable Video Recording Tap this heading in order to set the required recording options. Off (no recording) User Controlled (record button) this will give you the option to turn recording on and off when required On (always recording) Video/Audio Selection This will enable you to select to record either video or video and audio Pick Storage Folder This allows you to dictate where you wish the recordings to be stored 17
Storage Folder This will automatically populate the storage folder address that you have selected Recording Size Here you can set the limit of how much you wish to record in GBs Enable Pre Event Buffer This will mean that a when you press the record button a certain amount of recording will automatically be recorded before the record button was pressed. This will mean you have less chance of missing the full incident you with to record. Pre-Event Buffer (in seconds) Set here the time you wish to record for, before you press the record button Profile Auto Decrease Auto Profile Decrease If the network bandwidth suddenly decreases either because of congestion or perhaps poor signal the VB-10 encoder will automatically step down through the profiles to try and maintain connection, if this box is ticked. Profile decrease delay This is set to 10 seconds and is the number of seconds the VB-10 will wait before stepping down a profile Profile Auto change 18
Auto Profile Change You can also select a profile to become the profile of choice by ticking auto profile change to. Target Profile and Profile Change Time Choose the profile desired and the time elapsed before the profile changes back to desired set profile. For example, it may be that the bandwidth has been exceeded whilst you are mobile and it has automatically flexed down. By auto changing the profile to a set profile after an amount of time the encoder will try to go back to the higher bandwidth. Progressive Profile Change The final box when ticked this enables a stepwise return to desired set profile so it changes in stages rather than trying to meet a high profile immediately. Checking version numbers of software Go to menu and click about, this will give you the license version and the IMEI of phone 19
OPERATION OF THE VB10 ENCODER Once the application is installed and configured, run the application and you will see the video being captured by the camera and a number of buttons. In order to connect the app to the remote server and make the video available for remote viewing, Click the Connect button. (The encoder will automatically connect if selected) STATUS MESSAGES Status messages will change to reflect the status of the connection. Connected/Not Connected This shows if the app has made the connection to the server. If the status is not connected then no video transmission will be possible. If the status is connected, then the next status will be sending. Profiles You will also see which video profile is currently being transmitted. The video profile indicates the quality of video being transmitted from the phone and can be changed remotely by the operator or manually in the phone menu (see later). CAMERA CONTROLS Focus 20
Makes the camera to do a one off focus. Macro Focus Selects Macro focus mode to enable close up video, i.e. Less than 10 cm. Constant Focus Cause the camera to constantly try to focus on whatever is in view (i.e. keeps focusing while you move the camera around) Torch Toggles the flash on the phone (if fitted) on and off to assist video in poor light conditions. PTT (Push to Talk) Allows the user to talk to the person viewing the video stream. REC ON/OFF Depending on what has been set in the set up process this gives you the option to record or not record. STREAM PROFILES Stream profiles allow the user to select the quality of the video stream to be sent to the server based on the resolution, frames per second and bandwidth. The stream profiles are found in the menu button: The higher the quality the more bandwidth is required to stream the video. If a profile is selected and the bandwidth to transmit the video stream selected is not available, the encoder will automatically drop down the profile list until a suitable video profile is found for the bandwidth available if this has been changed in the application settings To select Stream Profiles Select Menu Options followed by Stream Profiles 21
The following screen will appear Select the profile required by touching screen 22
MAKING A CALL WHILST ENCODING VIDEO When the background encoding option is set, the encoder will continue to operate in the background when another application is active. In this mode, it is possible to make a call on the handset whilst encoding video. This will enable the user to speak to the person who is viewing the video for example wherever they may be. Start the App and connect to the server as described earlier Return to the Mobile Phone home screen in the normal manner The home screen should be displayed with the Encoded Video running in the background. Make the call in the normal manner If desired, return to the Encoder through the Apps menu or using the shortcut as shown. The Video will now be streaming to the server over the data network and the call will be transmitted over the voice network. Note: This function requires a minimum 3G network connection for concurrent transmission of video and voice. If using a 2G network is being used the data transmission will stop whilst voice is being transmitted.
