Corel Grafigo 1.0 is a compelling new software application, designed specifically for Microsoft Windows XP Professional Tablet PC Edition, that truly enables graphics on the go. Want to get a mobile colleague s opinion on your latest graphical sketch or mock-up? It s fast and easy with Corel Grafigo. The application delivers sketching and annotation tools, symbol libraries, shape recognition and hand writing technologies that enable quick collaboration and communication of ideas. Built for pen-based computing, Corel Grafigo provides a user interface that eliminates relying on a mouse or keyboard and emulates the user experience with a traditional pen and notebook. Powerful features supporting an open standard Corel Grafigo includes import filters for popular raster, or bitmapped, image file formats such as JPEG, GIF, TIFF, BMP and Portable Network Graphics (PNG). The application s Onionskin feature and annotation tools allow you to mark up documents and images individually, or in a collaborative environment over the Internet. Corel Grafigo is a revolutionary new software application for the Tablet PC that will officially launch on November 7, 2002 in New York simultaneously with the launch of Microsoft Windows XP Professional Tablet PC Edition. Corel Grafigo will be available for download at The application Corel Grafigo: This new application offers mobile professionals the powerful tools they need to create, exchange ideas, and interact with colleagues in a truly collaborative environment. Versions of Corel Grafigo will be available in localized English, French, German, and Japanese 1. You can also reuse this captured information as part of your daily workflow. Corel Grafigo lets you create accurate graphics from sketches through the use of basic shape recognition, symbols, and tools. In addition, Corel Grafigo features annotation tools that let you collaborate and communicate thoughts and ideas with colleagues. Corel Grafigo offers many compelling features so that you can create, visualize, share, and repurpose your ideas on the go. Shape recognition Are you artistically challenged? Tired of struggling to draw so much as a straight line? Well, Corel Grafigo has the ability to convert your hand-drawn circles, diamonds, ellipses, parallelograms, squares, rectangles, and triangles into perfect shapes through shape recognition functionality. Corel Grafigo also provides formatting options for bolding and for creating dashed-line versions of each shape. Additional drawing functionality, such as straight lines, auto-snapping, and curve smoothing, are also available to users of Corel Grafigo. Onionskins Would you like to permanently end the confusion of misplaced notes? Or how about eliminating the need to decipher hastily scribbled notes written on top of complex graphics? Corel Grafigo provides a revolutionary review mechanism for graphically rich projects through the use of Onionskins, which are transparent overlays for annotating or marking up existing files. Onionskins let you make changes to a graphic or drawing without altering the original. Your changes are drawn onto an Onionskin, which is layered Corel Grafigo 8

9 over the original drawing. In addition, Onionskins are reusable and can be sent when saved with the original drawing in SVG file format to another person, who can then make further alterations. You can also use multiple Onionskins that overlap one another and can be viewed independently. In a collaborative environment, each person can select a different Onionskin color to avoid confusion. Symbols palette Need help drawing an irregular shape that looks professional? Corel Grafigo features the Symbols palette to give you easy access to shapes and symbols for quick insertion into the workspace. An array of arrows, flow symbols, and other predefined shapes makes it quick and easy to add clarity, impact, and professionalism to your documents. All symbols used by and created with Corel Grafigo are multi-directional and scalable. You can also create your own symbols for reuse later. The Symbols palette gives you easy access to shapes and symbols. Real-time collaboration Corel Grafigo brings new meaning to collaboration. Are you in a constant hurry to get a colleague s opinion? Do you feel like time is wasting away while you attempt to share information at the moment of inspiration? Through the use of Microsoft NetMeeting, Corel Grafigo lets you collaborate live, in real-time, with colleagues over the Internet. Changes made in one person s version of Corel Grafigo will be seen immediately by all members of the collaboration session. Handwriting recognition Using Microsoft s handwriting recognition engine, Corel Grafigo will allow you to convert your handwriting into regular text. 10 converted into text and later reused in your workflow with word processing applications such as WordPerfect. Pen tool Finally, a pen that thinks! The pressure-sensitive Corel Grafigo pen tool lets you write, draw, sketch, and doodle. If you want to sketch a bold-lined circle with your pen tool, simply draw the circle and repeat the pattern several times to indicate desired boldness. The pen tool recognizes that you have drawn over the circle several times and automatically adjusts the line thickness of the circle. In addition, the ink behaves and flows like natural ink and the nib of the pen can be adjusted for size and color. Gestures Don t like what you ve drawn? Scratch it out. With Corel Grafigo you can make gestures with your digital pen to perform common tasks quickly. For example, if you wish to delete an object, simply hold your pen button down and scratch it out as if you were using a pencil eraser. This functionality lets you use your pen to do many of the things you would normally do with a keyboard, such as using shortcut keys. Open standards Continuing Corel s commitment to embrace open standards, objects created with Corel Grafigo are stored in the SVG file format. SVG is an open standard that allows for easy sharing and viewing of files between different applications. That means anyone can view Corel Grafigo files with a Web browser using an SVG viewer plug-in. Corel Grafigo files can also be opened and edited in other applications that support the SVG standard. Corporate workflow scenario Lillian is an experienced executive assistant for the CEO of an expanding financial software firm. 12 she ll have to find room in the building for two new offices, Lillian adds the two positions to her list of action items. She draws a check box beside the first action item on her list. 13 The CEO has asked her to evaluate the office space situation using the company s floor plan. She downloads the floor plan from the company server and imports it into Corel Grafigo as an underlay. After she identifies some space for renovation, she indicates the construction of two new offices using the predefined Symbols palette, inking technology, and Onionskin feature. Next, Lillian creates a new document and begins to map out the revised organization chart. Using shape recognition and ink features she quickly creates a chart illustrating the addition of the two new directors. Corel Grafigo 13

14 Lillian sends the newly created org chart to the CEO for his approval. En route to the airport, the CEO retrieves the org chart using his Tablet PC and Corel Grafigo. He uses the Onionskin feature to give his feedback and poses a surprise question to Lillian. The question on the additional Onionskin? Which office do you prefer?. The updated building floor plan was prepared in Corel DESIGNER 9 and downloaded to her Tablet PC in raster file format. She arrives on the site to meet her colleague for a discussion about safety code issues associated with the pending renovations. Using their Tablet PC s and Corel Grafigo, they separate to explore the various areas of the building. She initiates a collaboration session with her colleague and imports the building s floor plan as an underlay. Her colleague, in another area of the building, sees her actions on his Tablet PC in real-time. 16 The building inspector returns to her downtown office, converts the handwritten notes from her collaboration session to text, and pastes the text into WordPerfect to prepare her site report. Other professional workflow scenarios Insurance Corel Grafigo is a useful tool for mobile professionals in the insurance industry. For instance, an insurance adjuster can use Corel Grafigo as a feedback tool for company records. During on-site damage assessments, an adjuster takes a digital photo of the damaged car. Using his Tablet PC, he imports the photo into Corel Grafigo as an underlay. He then uses the Onionskin feature to make any necessary notes on various aspects of the damaged automobile.
