August/ September New Titles from NTA Sales. The main news for this issue is that the long awaited Around Bournemouth By Trolleybus is now in stock. The author is Henry Conn and it is published by Adam Gordon. It is basically a photo tour of the system during the 1960s and draws extensively on black & white photos taken by the late Peter Mitchell. There are also colour shots by Tony Belton and Fred Ivey. All are excellent quality and printed on glossy paper. There is a small feature on London 260 s visit to the system on 20th June A4 hardback. 224 pages. Wiring map. 1 or 2 photos per page.

Andrew comments = The book is in Russian and English and runs to 424 pages, in full colour, with numerous tables and appendices. 6 Trolley Jottings. 1. London Meetings.Do you live in London/ the South East? Come along to the joint NTA/ BTS meetings. Last Month s Competion There were 4 correct entries to the first competion (identify the system Duluth, Minnesota), so that one was probably too easy. I therefore posed a question in the last newsletter which I thought was difficult, but not impossible. We are all familiar with the sage of Who Shot J.R?..But who shot G.D.? Perhaps this was too obscure, as there were no entries of any description. Answer; Tom Riley. Solution: Obviously there was a trolleybus theme..

7 In the film The Blue Lamp (Ealing Studios 1950) Police Constable George Dixon (G.D.) is shot and killed during a bungled robbery by a young gangster, Tom Riley, played by Dirk Bogarde in his first major film role. The film was one of the first to include extensive on location filming in London, and trolleys make several appearances. It is also worth watching for pre Westway film of Notting Hill, and quite an exciting, if dated, storyline. Available on DVD. George Dixon was of course resurrected by the BBC as Dixon Of Dock Green. Tom Riley, on the other hand, no doubt had an appointment with Mr. Pierrepoint. This month s competion.back to something a bit easier I suspect; What was the most Crossley system?
