Currently supported controllers are: ATC-300+, ATC- 600/800, and ATC-900. Page 1

2 Preparing a PXG-900 Gateway Connect the PXG gateway to your PC via USB cable and power the unit up (you may need to install the driver off of the included CD). It will be about 30 seconds before it is ready to use (indicated by solid green Status light). Open a web browser and type the following URL: (Note, your IP address may be different than the factory). The default username/password is: admin/admin Once you are logged in, click the Network tab on the upper left of the screen: Page 2

3 PXG-900 Network Configuration Click the Edit button near the upper right-hand of the screen. This will enable edit mode. Click the gear icon to the right of the Power Xpert Gateway title bar to reveal the settings menu on the right. If you are using DHCP, simply leave the DHCP Enabled box checked. Otherwise, uncheck it and enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway (if applicable) for your PXG-900. Once you have entered your PXG s network info, click Save to download your settings. 4 3 Page 3

4 Communications Port Setup Click the gear icon in the upper right-hand part of the COM window that your controller will be connected to (COM 1, COM 2, or INCOM) Baud Rate, Stop Bits, and Parity must match the coms settings of the devices on that particular coms network port (see the ATC-300+ or 900 controller IB for help on setting the coms settings for your controllers). ATC-300+ s always have ONE Stop bit and Parity set to NONE; the baud rate is a userselectable setpoint of 9600 or ATC-900 s COM settings are fully configurable from its front colorscreen interface. Click Save to lock in your selections. 3 2 Page 4

5 Add New Device Setup (for Cached Data Server) Click the Add Device button under the Com port that your controller will be connected to (COM 1, COM 2, or INCOM). Set Family and Model Series to Transfer Switches. Set the Model to the controller you are adding (ATC- 300+/900 for COM1/COM2, or ATC-600/800 for INCOM). Enter the name that you want your controller to be displayed as. Enter the Serial Modbus Address of the controller. This should match the Address setpoint of your ATC- 300+/900. Every device on the same serial network must have a unique address. Click Save once you have the controller configured. You should now see your new controller appear in the list of devices under the selected com port Page 5

6 Enabling Modbus TCP/IP Passthrough Click the Settings button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Click the Network Access tab near the top. You may need to click the Edit button to enable edit mode again if it is disabled. Turn on Modbus TCP Pass Through by clicking the Enabled checkbox. Assign it a port number. The default is Your PXG Gateway is now configured to convert Serial Modbus (or INCOM) to Modbus TCP/IP. Repeat this process for any additional PXG gateways you may have, making sure that each one has a unique IP. You should now save your PXG configuration(s) as an XML file by clicking on Configuration File Save/Restore in the Power Xpert Gateway settings. Page 6

7 Preparing an ELC-CAENET Module Download and install ECISoft from Eaton s website. Connect your ELC-CAENET module to your PC either via the serial port or the Ethernet port on the module. Connect 24 Vdc to the CAENET using the provided wiring connector. Open ECISoft and go to Tools -> Communication Setting Select your Communication Type (RS232 if using the serial cable, or Ethernet if using an Ethernet cable) o For RS232 COM Port: set to whatever port your serial cable is connected to on your PC Data Length: 8; Parity: Even; Stop Bits: 1; Baud Rate: 9600 Station Address: 1; Modbus Mode: RTU o For Ethernet No settings Click on the magnifying glass with an M in it (circled in red below): Page 7

8 You should see a picture of your ELC-CAENET module (see below): Double-click the module picture and it will take you to the module configuration menu. Click on the Basic tab. Configure your IP Address, Netmask, and Gateway IP addresses based on the customer s desired network configuration. Make sure the IP Configuration is set to Static. Click on the Gateway tab. This will show you a menu with 3 more tabs: COM Setup, Bit Device, and Word Device. Click on the COM Setup tab, if it isn t already selected. Here you will configure the COM Page 8

9 Mode, Baud rate, Parity, Data Length, Stop Bits, and Station Address (see below). Set COM2 Mode (RS-485) to Modbus RTU Master. Baud rate, parity, stop bits, and station address must all match your ATC controller settings. o Baudrate: For an ATC-600/800 should match the baud rate selected on the IPONI module. We recommend IPONI baud rate ALWAYS be set to The ATC-300+ and 900 have adjustable baud rate setpoints (minimum of 9600). o Parity and Stop Bits: If you are using an ATC-300+, 600, or 800, the Parity is always None, and the Stop Bits is always 1. If you are using an ATC-900, the parity and stop bits are adjustable, so make sure they match your settings here. o Station Address: Set this to an unused address on your Modbus serial network. This should not match any existing device s station address. Click OK and your settings should be uploaded to the ELC-CAENET. Your CAENET gateway should now be properly configured to send data between serial controllers and Ethernet SCADA devices. Page 9

10 Configuring the HMi RAC With the release of the new Ethernet-enabled HMi s (HMIVU07CUNBE, HMIVU08CUNBE, and HMIVU10CUNBE), it is now possible to monitor any number of ATS switches (up to 8 switches per HMi RAC) in a facility with Ethernet networks. The Eaton PXG-900 provides an easy-tomanage Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP/IP gateway. If the Power Xpert monitoring is not necessary, the Eaton ELC-CAENET module provides the same serial-to-ethernet gateway without Power Xpert features. With proper configuration and coordination from the customer s IT department, it is possible to install multiple gateways on an existing network, allowing them to attach an HMi RAC on any Ethernet port throughout their facility. Note: HMi RAC IP addresses must be set prior to leaving the factory, or by an on-site Eaton technician during startup. HMi firmware is proprietary information with password protection. Open your HMiSoft firmware file (available from ATS engineering or tech support department), enter the password (Eaton or EESS access only), and navigate to Options-> Communication Setting. Click on Ethernet. Your screen should look like the following: Page 10

11 Enter the your PXG or ELC Gateway s static IP address and port number in the Controller : Port field; make sure your port number matches the correct Pass Through port setting in the gateway (26501 in this example). If you are using a ELC-CAENET, set this to 502. o Note: If you have more than one gateway to connect to your controllers, then you will need a custom order HMi RAC file with a new link for each gateway. Controller Modbus addresses will also need to be known for each controller behind the gateways. Click on Local Host. This will let you configure the HMi RAC s IP address, subnet mask, gateway IP, and upload/download port. You will want to coordinate with the plant IT dept. on available IP addresses for your HMi RAC, and which gateway IP to use to ensure a connection to the PXG or CAENET. Make sure the Overwrite IP box is checked and enter in the IP address that the HMi RAC should have. Note: if the HMi RAC will be connected to a DHCP server, you can simply click the Obtain an IP address automatically checkbox to have the IP set via DHCP. Once you ve made your changes, click the OK button. Connect a USB A-to-B cable from your PC to the HMi RAC s Slave port. Page 11

12 Configure HMiSoft to use your USB port by clicking Options->Environment: In the Environment screen, ensure the USB radio button is selected under the Upload/Download section, then click OK: To download your changes to the HMi RAC, click Tools -> Download Screen: Page 12

13 Wait until the download progress bar finishes, then your HMi RAC will reboot. Your HMi RAC and gateway should now be properly configured. Preparing the ATC-300+ The only options that need to be changed on an ATC-300+ are Address and Baud Rate. Navigate to the Address setpoint and set this to one of the following: If you have a single-view HMi RAC (e.g. RAC31, RAC31_E, etc.) set the Modbus Address to 1. If you have a multi-view HMi RAC (e.g. RAC38, RAC38_E, etc.) each controller on the network should have a unique Modbus Address of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8. No two controllers on a single network should have the same Modbus address. This address directly corresponds to Controller #1 through Controller #8 in the HMi RAC s System Setup menu. Next, navigate to the Baud Rate setpoint, and make sure it is set to match the baud rate you set in the gateway s COM setting. The default is Preparing the ATC-600/800 The controller itself does not have any affected setpoints. What we are interested in is the IPONI attached to the controller. Locate the 3 address selector switches and turn them to match the Address (hex) in your PXG configuration. This number must be different from PLC Station you set in your HMiSoft program above. Next, locate the Baud Rate selector switch, and make sure it is set to match the baud rate you set in your gateway s COM setting. Page 13

14 Preparing the ATC-900 To set up the ATC-900, we need to adjust the Modbus Address and the Modbus Configuration setpoints. Use the left/right arrow buttons on the front panel to go to Change Setpoints, enter your password (default is 0900), then select the Next screen button to get to System Setup (2 of 2 or 2 of 3). Navigate to the Modbus Address setpoint and set this to one of the following: If you have a single-view HMi RAC (e.g. RAC91, RAC91_E, etc.) set the Modbus Address to 1. If you have a multi-view HMi RAC (e.g. RAC98, RAC98_E, etc.) each controller on the network should have a unique Modbus Address of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8. No two controllers on a single network should have the same Modbus address. This address directly corresponds to Controller #1 through Controller #8 in the HMi RAC s System Setup menu. Finally, navigate to the Modbus Configuration setpoint, and make sure it is set to match the baud rate, parity, and stop-bits you set in your gateway s COM setting. Use the up/down arrow keys to navigate to Save Setpoints and press Enter. Your ATC-900 should now be ready to communicate via TCP/IP gateway. Page 14
