3 Overview Functional description The Web Client Manager (WCM) is an optional functional component of the Multimedia Communication Server 5100 (MCS 5100) solution. It provides the interface for communication between the Multimedia Web Client and the SIP Application Module and SIP Provisioning Module. These communications include sending and receiving multimedia calls; obtaining subscribers service packages, updating address books, and presence statuses of buddies. Web Client Manager The Web Client Manager manages web-based client applications and enables subscribers to access SIP services from a browser. The Web Client Manager also provides the Multimedia Web Client feature set and enables the interworking of the Multimedia Web Client and the SIP Application Module. The Web Client Manager is deployed from the System Management Console. Once the Web Client Manager is deployed, the administrator can access it through a web browser as soon as the end user s account is set up. Hardware Sun Fire V100 Details Mhz UltraSparc CPU 1 GB RAM 2 40 GB Disks 24x internal CD-ROM Drive 10/100 Base-T internet ports USB ports Universal Sliding Rack Mount Kit MCS 5100 OAM&P strategy The OAM&P strategy for MCS 5100 to manage system operations from a central location. The central location for OAM&P management is in the Management Module which resides on the Management Server. From the System Management Console, you can view, add, modify, delete, lock, and unlock the various components in the system. Interfaces The Web Client Manager is used to control or manage the signaling of the Multimedia Web Clients. The signaling between the clients and the manager is done by way of Web Client Session Control Protocol (WCSCP)/TCP. The Web Client Manager has the following two interfaces: SIP/UDP or SIP/TCP. The Web Client Manager uses this interface to send SIP signaling to the SIP Application Module (port 5060) for requests on behalf of Multimedia Web Clients. WCSCP/TCP. The Web Client Manager uses this interface to control or manage sessions of the Multimedia Web Clients. User interfaces The System Management Console manages the Web Client Manager. 5 Upgrades Overview The upgrades to the Web Client Manager (WCM) are performed either by installing and deploying or updating the software load. Updating a software load allows any provider customization to remain intact, while updating the software to the desired load. This section describes the update strategies for the WCM. Updates have the following characteristics: They introduce new functionality across many components without affecting network stability. If a server update fails, you have a choice of rolling it back or not. It does not roll back automatically. Updating the WCM load Maintenance updates are performed from the System Management Console. Please refer to MCS 5100 System Management Console User Guide for more information. The update operation on the System Management Console allows system administrators to upgrade the WCM to future maintenance releases, or downgrade the WCM to a previous maintenance release. The order in which the maintenance release software updates to MCS 5100 are deployed is extremely important. Refer to Maintenance release software updates tasks sequence table in the MCS 5100 Basics document. Note: Failure to perform updates in the specified order will result in loss of service. Follow the procedure to update the WCM: at the System Management Console 1 Select the WCM component (wcm1) in the system hierarchy tree as shown below. 6 6 Figure 1 Locating the WCM component 2 Right-click on the component name and select the Update option. 3 When the load list dialog box appears, select the load to which you are updating. This list shows all the available WCM loads except the one that is currently running on the System Management Console. Figure 2 Selecting the load list NN MCS Standard December 2003

7 7 4 Select the Apply button. General WCM properties are defined in the Web Client Manager tab. Modifications to the Web Client Manager tab can be made without locking any components. Modifications take effect immediately. See the Configuration chapter in this document for more information. Figure 3 Updating the WCM 5 Information tabs contain the currently configured values. The Adding Services Progress dialog box appears. Note: The older WCM software load is still running and providing service until you press the Apply button. 9 Fault management Network fault management strategy The MCS 5100 system handles network fault management through alarms and logs. Multimedia Web Client alarms and logs are viewed from the System Management Console. (See the System Management Console Basics NTP for tasks related to alarms and logs.) 11 Configuration Network strategy The MCS 5100 network strategy is to configure all of the components in a central location. The central location for configuration is the Management Server Console. The following sections provide information on configuring the Web Client Manager. Configuration procedures Log in to the management server console. For detailed procedures on logging into the management server console, please refer to the System Management Console Basics document. Configuration details When you deploy the WCM, you will also need to deploy the web bundle (otherwise the web client will not work). In the Web Client Manager tab of the WCM bundle, ensure that WCM Socket Server Active is checked. Ensure all values in the Web Client Manager tab are the same as the Web bundle s (except for the Socket Server Active tab). Adding the Web Client Manager component server from the management console 1 Select the server that the Web Client Manager will be added to from the system hierarchy. 2 Right-click the highlighted word component to get the option to add a component. 3 Select Add and then Component. 4 Select WCM from the load list. 5 You will be prompted to configure the component.
