2 Media Import The Import of media is necessary to make media available for the authoring tool Only previously imported media is available in the Authoring Tool In the Media Import Tool Segments of media can be defined Ontology concepts can be assigned to created Entities Attributes can be filled in This information is accessible via the Authoring Tool All information relevant for multiple threads should be added here

4 Media Import Select a file or / define an URL for the media to import Specify whether the media is copied to the authoring tool directory For media on an remote computer you can specify whether the media should be copied to your local authoring tool directory

5 Media Import To start the media download click here. The media will be checked and processed according to your options specified

6 Media Import Functionalities for adding, removing, changing segments of a media (depends on media type) Media specific control elements like play, pause, stop, zoom, etc.

30 Authoring - Working with Media Media can be edited either in the "Entity Editor" or in the "Media Editor" The "Entity Editor" is entity centric and thus shows only the segments for that particular entity The "Media Editor" is media centric and thus shows all segments that are defined on the medium independent of the entity the segment belongs to Segments made in the "Entity Editor" always form a group belonging to that particular entity Segments made in the "Media Editor" always create a new entity the new segment belongs to.

31 Authoring - Working with Media Each type of media has a specific set of functionalities available for making segments Text Texts can be selected by pressing the new / add segment button and marking the specific words Audio Audio can be selected by pressing the new / add segment button and moving the selection sliders along the audio timeline Image Images can be selected by pressing the new / add segment button and marking the region with the mouse Video is a combination of Image & Audio

37 Ontology Issues Each entity within a Thread can only access concepts / relations of the assigned ontology Only entities which have the same ontology as the Thread can be imported into the Thread via the import menu; incorrect ontology concepts will not be added into the Thread However, encapsulating Threads is possible even if the encapsulated Thread has a different ontology then the encapsulating Thread as just a reference to the actual thread is imported
