FJA-US and IBM COR&FJA Group is IBM Business Partner since 2005 Worked with IBM on: Cooperation agreement on Life Factory IAA Product Management Workflow Solution Beta programs of various software packages WebSphere 8.5 and Liberty Profile WebSphere 8.5.Next Customer Acceleration Program (CAP) Access to multitude of technical and educational resources in IBM Tiger team training session Learning from other CAP s participants experience IBM Corporation
WebSphere Application Server Open Beta What is it? Designed to reach a broader range of customers and partners and improve feedback to WAS Development. Program Benefits The Agile Beta is announced via traditional Open Beta mechanism (e.g. Sales channel) as well as to all WebSphere Customer Experience Program (CEP) customers Clients download and exercise the Alpha and Beta code or can access code via the Cloud Clients participate in forum discussions with focused attention from IBM architects and developers high interactions led by the WAS Development team. Lab advocates and/or account reps will be leveraged to manage validated hands-on client participation and experience. High-activity clients without advocates will be assigned WAS Development partners IBM Corporation
WebSphere Application Server Managed (Alpha/Beta) Early Program What is it? The managed early program is designed to help customers and partners successfully test the features of alpha and beta offerings, learn from our development team and help shape future offerings by providing feedback. We desire that our clients have a very positive experience to share with others, and become a reference for IBM. Program Benefits: Participants are assigned a dedicated WAS Development Focal Point, who works with the client on a 1-1 basis to assist test efforts and with questions or issues that arise. Through the focal point, the client has access to the entire WAS Development team. Participants are invited to join development hosted education on features in the alpha and beta offerings and interact directly with development via these web sessions IBM Corporation
WebSphere Application Server Customer Acceleration Program (CAP) What is it? The CAP is designed to help clients quickly accelerate their move to production readiness on WAS, with the desire that they will have a highly positive experience to share with others, and become a reference for IBM. Program Benefits: All CAP participants are offered on-site free education on all products included in the program. Each CAP participant is assigned a dedicated WAS Development Focal Point, who works with the client on a 1-1 basis for any question or issues that arise. Through that focal point, the client in essence has access to the entire WAS Development team. How do I join? Nomination forms will be available at the start of each CAP IBM Corporation
FJA-US Plan Configurator Overview Leveraging product components from the Product Machine, the Plan Configurator applies the appropriate restrictions, actuarial calculations, compliance specifications, and business rules using automated workflows. Labor-intensive processes are minimized. Redundancy is eliminated. Efficiency is improved. Operational expenses are reduced. Creation, management, and implementation of plans from standard to one-off custom plans are accelerated. Fully web-service enabled, the Plan Configurator allows you to quickly and easily: Create plans with sophisticated version and variation management tools Apply changes to the entire plan portfolio automatically Integrate with external system via open interfaces Output plan information in XML or JSON Generate benefit summaries and other marketing collateral as PDF or MS Word documents, along with coverage explanations IBM Corporation
FJA-US Plan Configurator Architecture FJA Historization Module FJA Product Machine Trinidad Facelets HTML/JavaScript/CSS Java Server Faces Hibernate Spring WebFlow Core Spring IBM Corporation
FJA-US Plan Configurator Migration Why migrate now? All clients are in the midst of either evaluating or planning WebSphere upgrade A major customer asked FJA-US to certify Plan Configurator on WAS 8.5 Major performance gains can be achieved by moving to WAS 8.5 JVM runtime enhancements Garbage collector improvements, Gencon policy is default 64bit compressed references JIT optimizations Finally, procrastinating is not a healthy option Opportunity presents itself in Customer Acceleration Program Exposure to Liberty beta in late 2011 Follow up by IBM and invitation to participate in CAP IBM Corporation
FJA-US Plan Configurator Migration Approach Analyze Adjust Deploy Test Analyze Plan Configurator frameworks / libraries for conflicts JSF version JAXB version Unified Expression Language (EL) OSGi framework version Adjust code Remove outdated JARs (EL, JSF implementation) Differences in EL implementation caused problems with facelets JSF configuration Deploy and configure Use JSF implementation bundled with WebSphere Set class loader order to PARENT_LAST to enable embedded OSGi framework Run manual and automated tests Smoke test major scenarios Unleash QTP tests Repeat from the top until QTP tests failure rate does not exceed 5% IBM Corporation
FJA-US Plan Configurator Migration Status Major challenges Mix of OSGi and standard class loaders within same application Conflicts between various OSGi frameworks Nevertheless, FJA-US has certified Plan Configurator for Full and Liberty profiles of WebSphere 8.5 Benefits Obtained better understanding of our application Identified potential room for improvements in Plan Configurator Future steps Move from JEE Web Application Resource (WAR) to OSGi Web Application Bundle (WAB) Use CDI in favor of Spring dependency injection Explore switching from Hibernate to OpenJPA IBM Corporation
