1 Information & Communications Technologies Portal Tipsheet ESFRS Portal Tipsheet SUBJECT: How to access and use the ESFRS Portal REVISED DATE: 25/11/10 TIPSHEET NO: PTL001 CREATED BY: John Talbot-Jones The ESFRS Portal is a secure website that can allow authorised users access to the Intranet site, some internal web applications and the citrix desktop for access to shared and private drives. Access to the website can be obtained by using a web browser connected to the public internet either from home, a café with internet access or maybe remote offices. To access the site enter the following address in the browser:- (Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari are fully compatible, Opera and Chrome have limited functionality) Users are then presented with a login page:- Page 1 of 14

2 Enter your normal Novell username and password. If you have a GroupWise mailbox enter the password used for accessing webmail in the third box. You will then be presented with your home page:- Page 2 of 14

3 The applications that are accessible are presented as bookmarks in the middle of the screen. If you have bookmarks of different type ie web and citrix they are displayed under a banner with a grey background. To select a bookmark simply click on the name in the list. You will then be redirected to the relevant page. At the top of any selected bookmark the navigation tools are displayed:- The double arrow button moves the tools to either side of the page, the house button returns to the home page and the red cross logouts of the portal completely. 4 Also on the home page on the left hand side there is also a navigation panel. If you have a large number of bookmarks the panel allows you to filter the display based on the connection type. Page 4 of 14

7 FAQ 1. If you get a connection time out message when trying to access the portal, make sure you used the web address with https eg. Page 7 of 14

8 2. When trying to access GroupWise WebAccess you may get the following error if you entered the wrong password on the login page. Click OK and then re-enter your details on the webacess login page. Page 8 of 14

9 3. After logging out or terminating a bookmark connection select the home button to return to the home page. Page 9 of 14

10 4. If you get a security message in Internet Explorer when trying to load the page select Continue to this website Page 10 of 14

11 5. If you receive a This Connection is Untrusted message in Firefox, select I Understand the Risks Then select the Add Exception button. Page 11 of 14

12 On the Add Security Exception page select Get Certificate and then select the Confirm Security Exception button. Page 12 of 14

13 6. When trying to access Citrix with a Firefox browser all that is displayed is a blank screen. This maybe because Java is not installed on your pc. In Internet Explorer you may receive a pop up message and a blank screen. Continued on next page. Page 13 of 14

14 In a new browser window go to and select Free Java Download to see if you have java installed and to install it. Page 14 of 14
