Improved performance and readability of large files. Updated UI inputs. Added New tables and customization options for manufacturing environments. Details of changes are documented in these release notes.

3 SEER-for CATIAv5 3.1 Release Notes 3 Manufacturing Environments Manufacturing Environments are installed, by default, in the Public Document folder. SEER-MCE C:\Users\Public\Documents\SEER\SEER-MCE 1.1\Manufacturing Environments\ SEER-MCE Starting MCE CATIA Parts and Assemblies can contain multiple geometrical sets and design instances. You can right click and select Define in Work Object on any of these sets to activate that instance for estimation. Defined Object for Estimation If the defined work object for estimation does not contain a volume, a warning message will appear asking if you want to continue or not:

6 6 SEER-for-CATIAv5 Release Notes Progress Bar Large files with complex surfaces take longer to process and analyze than smaller files. SEER-MCE has been updated with a progress bar to indicate the current stage of processing. Part Inputs Tab Progress Bar The Part inputs options have been updated to match the input structure of SEER-MFG. Also, there are improved bounding box sizing options, and axis orientation selection for lathes and machined parts. Each of the newer items are discussed below.

7 SEER-for CATIAv5 3.1 Release Notes 7 SEER-MCE SEER-MCE MCE Part Inputs Updates Selected Volume Body Previously called Active Part Body. The Selected Volume Body displays the name of the actively selected body in CATIA for which you require an estimate. If a part has multiple part body s, you can activate another part body in the CATIA feature tree by right clicking and defining it as the work object. Setup Amortization Enter the quantity of parts over which the setup (i.e. preparation of the machinery and the work area) will be amortized shared or divided. The default value will be computed or set based on the rules file setting.

8 8 SEER-for-CATIAv5 Release Notes Typically, this is the number of units in which a setup is required as part of the production run. The greater the amortization quantity, the lower the setup cost will be per production unit. This is also known as build quantity, batch size or lot quantity, the number of parts that are made at one time and is typically less than the total production quantity. Use this parameter to model the case where multiple setups are required for the production quantity specified. Setup amortization quantity should be the number of production units per setup. If this input is zero, the current input for Production Quantity will be used. Operation Type If the part to be machined requires Lathe Work, select the Lathe + Milling option, otherwise, select the Milling option. This option includes / excludes lathe operations. Previously, the operation types were assumed based on the Raw Shape selection. Machining Z Axis This option is available when the Operation Type = Milling. It represents the Z- axis on which the part will be machined. The Machining Z-axis is initially automatically determined from within CATIA. To change the Machining Z axis, select the Auto Selected or No Selection box, and follow the prompt displayed in the lower left corner of the CATIA window.

9 SEER-for CATIAv5 3.1 Release Notes 9 Select Machining Z Axis Turning Axis Displayed when the Operation Type = Lathe + Milling. The axis on which the part will be turned. The Turning Axis is automatically determined from within CATIA. To change the Turning axis, select the Auto Selected or No Selection box, and follow the prompt displayed in the lower left corner of the CATIA window. When a new turning axis is chosen, SEER-MCE will recompute the roughing and finishing operations based on the new axis selection. A progress bar will be displayed as the model is recomputed.

10 10 SEER-for-CATIAv5 Release Notes Select Turning Axis Bounding box Display Mode The smallest bounding box; either from the Global axis system or Inertia, is automatically selected as the default option. The User Defined option activates the Orientation Axis option, where the user can select a straight or circular edge to orientate the axis of the bounding box relative the axis of the selected edge. Orientation Axis The User Defined Bounding box option enables the Orientation Axis input. To change the Orientation Axis, select the Auto Selected box, and follow the prompt displayed in the lower left corner of the CATIA window. Note, this is an optional input when Operation Type = Milling

11 SEER-for CATIAv5 3.1 Release Notes 11 Rough Operations Tab Select Orientation Axis The Rough Operations tab options have been updated to include a Surface Skim Finish Pass option, and the option to add Custom Operations. Each of the newer items are discussed below.

12 12 SEER-for-CATIAv5 Release Notes SEER-MCE SEER-MCE MCE Rough Operations Updates Skim Stock Excess Finish Pass You can now add a surface skim finish pass operation to the Skim Stock Excess operation. Select the Skim Stock Excess operation, scroll to the Finish Pass option, click the Yes/No cell to activate edit model. Enter a Y (Yes) or N (No) to include/exclude this operation type.

13 SEER-for CATIAv5 3.1 Release Notes 13 Skim Stock Finish Pass Option Finish Part Weight The computed weight of the finished part is based on the selected material and finished part volume.

14 14 SEER-for-CATIAv5 Release Notes Add button Clicking the Add Button, opens the Rough Operations Data dialog. In this dialog users can add custom removal operations to be included in the estimate. Edit button Clicking the Edit Button, opens the Rough Operations Data dialog enabling edits to a previously entered custom rough operation. Delete button Clicking the Delete Button, deletes the selected custom Rough Operation from the Rough Operations list box. Rough Operations Data Dialog Used to add / edit additional rough operations such as Drilling, Pocket Milling, Profile Milling, Turn Facing, and Turn Part Off. The available rough operation types change whether the operation type is Milling vs Lathe + Milling. The available inputs change depending on the selected Rough Operation. A computed removal volume is displayed based on the input values. Clicking Add adds the custom operation to the Rough Operations list box. If a required field entry is missing, a warning message will appear prompting for the missing information.

Add button Clicking the Add Button, opens the Hole Drilling Data dialog. In this dialog users can add custom Hole operations to be included in the estimate. Edit button Clicking the Edit Button, opens the Hole Drilling Data dialog enabling edits to a previously entered custom hole drilling operation. Delete button Clicking the Delete Button, deletes the selected custom Hole Drilling Operation from the Hole Drilling data list box. 18 18 SEER-for-CATIAv5 Release Notes SEER-MCE Rules.TXT The SEER-MCE Rules.TXT file stores environment specific data such as rates, machine data, operation data etc. for use in the SEER-MFG estimate. New data tables were added and others updated to support new features for the SEER-MCE release. [MACHINING-COST-ESTIMATOR-DEFAULTS] Added new default options. Added Progress bar for processing large files. Allow user input of finished volume or finished weight for poorly defined surface models. Renamed UI sections and organized inputs to match SEER-MFG. Added a Setup Amortization input. Added an Operation Type input with Milling, and Lathe + Milling options. Added a user defined machining Z axis selection option. Upgrade Information Installation You do not have to uninstall earlier versions of SEER-for-CATIA to install/upgrade to SEER-for-CATIA 3.1. The manufacturing environment rules file structure changed significantly in the SEER-MCE release. Rule files created using earlier versions of SEER-MCE will no longer be read into SEER-MCE ; they will need to be recreated/updated using the SEER-MCE 1.1 environment editor. Operating System Requirements SEER-for-CATIA is supported on 32 & 64bit windows operating systems: Windows 10, 8, 7. SEER-MFG Requirements SEER-MCE is compatible with SEER-MFG or higher. SEER-PCE is compatible with SEER-MFG 7.2 or higher. SEER-SMCE is compatible with SEER-MFG or higher. CATIA Requirements SEER for CATIA is supported on CATIA releases R21 through R28 A CATIA Composites Workbench License is required for SEER-PCE A CATIA Sheet metal License is required for SEER-SMCE
