2 Satellite Ring Creation time: 45 minutes Level: Beginner This exercise will be done with the following material: Precious metal, Gold 18k White gold 2

3 A.RING SHANK CREATION Ring size builder creation 1. Access to jeweller s bench 2. Click on ring size builder Ring size builder properties Reference plane: OXZ Size: 54 Define top plane: Ticked Top offset: 3 mm 3

4 3. Select the ring size builder 4. Click on sweeping wizard In the first tab Material: White gold 18k Custom ring: Ticked Rail: ring size builder In the second tab Click on the of the section list to add a section. Click on the blue icon to access in the symbols library Choose the Square Sharp Section 4

5 5. Click on the scale tab Keep ratio: Unticked Width: 8 mm Height: 0.8 mm 6. Acess to Solid module 7. Select the ring shank 5

6 8. Click on fillet tool Kind of fillet: Rounded Fillet radius: 0. 2 mm Click on Select all 9. Access to jeweller s bench 6

7 10. Select the ring size builder in the tree 11. Click on sweeping wizard Material: White gold 18k In the first tab : Custom ring: Ticked Rail: ring size builder In the second tab Click on the of the section list to add a section. Click on the blue icon to access in the symbols library Choose the Polasm section 7

8 In the scale tab Keep ratio: Unticked Width: 5 mm Height: 4 mm In the Move tab Move section: X: 0 mm Y: 0.1 mm 8

9 Click on the second section. of the section list to add a Move the second section with the red point at 6 O clock In the scale tab Keep ratio: Unticked Width: 5 mm Height: 1, 5 mm 9

10 In the Move tab Move section: X: 0 mm Y: 0.1 mm 12. Select the Sweeping Wizard 2 and the fillet 13. Access to Solid module 10

11 14. Click on Boolean Operations Add 11

12 B.PEARL POSITIONNING AND CREATION Pearl location 1. Select the ring size builder in the tree. 2. Click on sphere tool Reference plane: Ring size builder Material: Pink Gold 18K Center: X= Y = Z=0 Radius: 4.1mm The pearl is not correctly positioned we will configure the top offset. To position the pearl in function of the ring size builder you should be define the top plane. Pearl diameter: 4 mm 12

13 Top plane Top offset = 3 mm The pearl is not correctly positioned Top offset= 4, 2 mm The pearl is correctly positioned 3. Click on ring size builder in the tree Defined top plane: Ticked Top offset: 4.2 mm 13

14 After validating the ring size builder, the ring shank became red, it means than all the operations should be recomputed. 4. Click on Recompute 14

15 5. Select the ring size builder 6. Select the Boolean Operations and the Sphere with the CTRL key 7. Click on Boolean Operations Subtract Pearl Creation 8. Click on sphere tool Reference plane: Ring size builder Material: Black Pearl Center: X= Y = Z=0 Radius: 4 mm Pearl drilling 15

16 9. Freeze the pearl 10. Create a cylinder Material: White gold 18k Reference plane: Ring size builder Center: X = 0; Y= 0; Z = 0 mm Radius: 0.7 mm Height: -8 mm Note: Move manually backward the red point sited on Z axes for obtain a height of 8 mm 16

17 11. Select the pearl and the cylinder 12. Click on Boolean Operations Subtract Pearl fixation 13. Select the ring size builder in the tree 14. Click on radiused box tool Material: White gold 18k Center: X=0, Y=0, Z= -4 Length: 1 mm Width: 1 mm Height: 4 mm 17

18 Note: For move manually the radiused box, place your cursor on the black arrows until it become red You can move the radiused box. 15. Select the radiused box 16. Click on Twist tool Objects to manipulate: radiused box Deformation side: Top Angle:

19 This step allows representing the real fixation for the pearl. 19

20 17. Select the twist and the Boolean operations Click on Boolean operations Add 20

21 19. Rename the entities for organise the tree Right Click on the operation «Rename item» This operation allows to working more easily and organised the tree when there are lots of operations. You can hide the ring size builder and the planes for clean the work zone. Right click on element / Hide 21

22 C.RING SCOOPING 1. Access to jeweller s bench 2. Select the ring size builder and the ring Shank 3. Click on Ring scooping tool Material: White gold 18k In the first tab: Ring size mode: Predefined ring size External ring size: Ring size builder Keep original : Not ticked 22

23 In the second tab: Choose the finger sides In the third tab: Thickness: 1.5 mm Margin: 0 mm Respect finger size: Straight Minimum Angle: 160 Smoothing angle: 40 23

24 D. POSITIONNING TWO DIAMONDS ON THE RING SHANK Drilling the shank for the stone setting 1. Access to Solid module 2. Select the ring scooping 3. Click on Plane on the object tool Click on the surface of the ring to indicate the plane center. You can readjust the center of the plane thanks to the blue circle, so that the axes on the plane are located in the middle of the ring shank. 24

25 Length and width: 12 mm Angle: Select the Plane on Object in the tree 5. Access to jeweller s bench 6. Click on Stone Material: Diamond AI Reference plane: Plane on object Center : X= 0, Y= 0, Z= Shape: Brilliant Custom diameter: 2.8 mm 25

26 7. Select the Stone in the tree 8. Click on Stone cutter tool In the first tab Material: Pink Gold 18k Reference plane: Plane on Object Existing stone: stone Position: X=Y=Z=0 In the second tab Hole depth: 5 mm 9. Access to Solid module 26

27 10. Select the Stone cutter in the tree 11. Click on Mirror tool Symmetry plane: OYZ 12. Select the Stone in the tree 13. Click on Mirror tool Symmetry plane: OYZ 14. Rename the Mirrors in Stone cutter 2 and Stone 2 27

28 15. Select the Ring scooping, the Stone cutter 1 and Click on Boolean operations Subtract 28

29 E. PREPARATION OF THE RAPID PROTOTYPING Bounding box measurement 1. Click on the Dimensions icon with the ring shank (Boolean operations3) selected. Length: mm Height: 22, 97 mm Width: 8mm Weight measurement 29

30 2. Click on the Weight icon with the ring shank selected 11,85 g Volume measurement 3. Select the ring shank 4. Click on physical properties Select only the Volume 30

31 Weight and Volume can be different in function of the diamond positioning.stl creation 5. Access to jeweller s bench Click on the Milling icon with the ring shank selected Choose the finest resolution Click on the eye to get a preview of your STL file Click on the floppy disk icon to generate the STL file. It will be saved in the same folder as the file you are currently working on, with the same name and with an STL extension. 31

32 F. REALISTIC RENDERING Rendering parameters 1. Click on Rendering icon Choose a template 2. Select the Ring shank, the Stone 1and 2 and the Pearl 32

Click on Rendering in the tree Click on Change Viewpoint: none Resolution: 1280x1024 Strategy: Bucket Antialiasing: 4X4 Adaptive Click on the render button.at the render calculation click on the Save icon if you want to save it. Click on the Print icon if you prefer to print the picture immediately. 33

35 CONCLUSION In the Part mode (3D conception), you have learned how to: - Use Ring size builder - Use Sweeping Wizard to define the ring shank - Use the stone cutter - Use Solids tools to create 3 dimensional objects: Cylinder, Radiused box and Sphere. - Use the Fillet to smooth the edges. - Use the Boolean operations to merge objects (using subtraction or addition operations). - Create new planes: Plane on object. - Use the Stone creation to build diamonds. - Use the Mirror to work with symmetry. - Use Ring scooping tool - Use the Dimensions and Weight measurement tools to work accurately. - Use Physicals properties to measure the volume of the ring - Use the Milling function to export STL file for rapid prototyping or CNC milling. - Use rendering to make a realistic render Note: For a better understanding of the history tree, it is useful to rename each step of the ring construction in order to retrieve easily each element for future project work. 35
