1 Watermelon Time Banner Signal the arrival of summer with this festive watermelon banner! This easy-tocreate banner is perfect for picnics, Fourth of July parties, or to just celebrate all summer long! 2 Baby Lock Tear-Away Firm Stabilizer Temporary spray adhesive Bobbin thread Polyester threads to match colors in the design: red, green, light green, black 18 x 24 white flag fabric 1 yard red check picnic fabric Velum paper for printing Instructions: At the Computer with MasterWorks II: 1. Open the program by clicking on the MasterWorks II icon on the desktop. 2. Click on Merge Stitch File on the top toolbar. Place a checkmark in the Convert to Outlines box. 3. Locate the Amazing Designs Summer Picnic I design collection (ADP-27P) from the installed location. Select the design named SWNSP Using the Stitch tool located on left toolbar; delete all segments on the design except for the watermelon with the bite out of it. Drag a box around the areas to be deleted and tap on the delete key on the keyboard to remove the segments. 5. Select all of the melon segments by clicking on All Items under Sequence View. 6. In the Properties Field, click on the down arrow next to Fill Type and select Standard. Click on the down arrow next to Pattern and select Smooth. 3 7. To place a hoop on the workspace, click on menu View and click on Select Hoop from the dropdown window. Select the 160mm x 260mm hoop and click Apply. 8. With the design selected, click on the Fit Hoop icon on the top toolbar. 9. The next step will be to make a larger hoop. Click on menu View. Select Hoop. When the dialog box opens, click on New. In the size box, type in 360mm for the width and 600mm for the height. Name the hoop 360 x 600. Click ok. Select the new hoop. With the design still selected, right click and choose Copy. Click on the New/Recipe icon. Select the Normal recipe. Select the DST format and click OK. This will open a new page. Right click on the screen and paste. Click on Fit Hoop. The design is as large as needed for the project. 10. Change the colors back to red, green, light green and black. 11. Select the black segments under Sequence View (this will be the seeds). Right click and choose Copy from the list of commands. 12. Click on the New page icon located on the top toolbar to open a new page. {Designer s Gallery}Watermelon Time Banner Page 3

4 13. Right click and choose Paste from the list of commands. Click on File Save As; give the design a name and save to a desired location in the DST file format. 14. Click on the page with the largest melon design. Select the segments that are seeds. Delete the seeds by clicking on the delete key on the keyboard. The seeds will be added later. 15. Click on File Save As and give this design a new name and save it to the same location as the first design as a DST file format. At the Computer with Designers Gallery Studio III: 1. Open Designers Gallery Studio III. 2. Go to the folder where the designs have been saved. Select the large watermelon. 3. To set up the hoop needed for the project click on the Hoops Available icon. Click on Add in the Properties field. Type in Double Ellegante" as the name of the hoop that we are creating. In the Individual Field Size, type 180 in the X box and 300 in the Y box. Set the compensation to 2%. In the Rows and Columns fields enter in the number 2. In the Separation fields, enter 255 in the top box and 155 in the bottom box. Notice that the Overall Size will change to 335 x 555. Click on Save. Select the Double Ellegante hoop. Click OK. 5 Click on the Save and Exit icon. 4. There will be 5 new files that will be on the DG workspace. These designs are numbered in sequence in which they will be embroidered. Print out the designs on vellum paper, lining up the design in sequence order. Tape them together. Position the flag fabric over the vellum and mark the hooping registration marks. Mark the sequence numbers in the stitch area with a pen or pencil. At the Embroidery Machine: 1. Hoop 2 layers of the Baby Lock Tear-Away firm stabilizer in the 160mm x 260 hoop. 2. Draw a crosshair in the center of the hoop. 3. Line up the first stitching with the crosshair of the #1 sequence position. When the stitching is completed, an alignment mark will be stitched. 4. Un-hoop the design and re-hoop 2 more pieces of Baby Lock Tear-Away firm. 5. Stitch the alignment line and position the next section (#2). Continue with the remaining sections of the design. 6. Print a template of the seeds on vellum paper. 7. Position seeds on the melon and mark the center of the design on the watermelon. 8. Embroider the seeds on the melon. 9. Trim around the watermelon and sew onto the bottom or the side of the red check fabric as an appliqué using a zigzag stitch. 10.
