2 How do I start Recording Data? If this is your first time: Create a new PROJECT Create a new SUBJECT Click MEASURE to setup your measurement Select your muscle names and channels Click START Click RECORD Click FINISH Save the data

3 Create a New Project How to Create a New Project 1 1. Click New by the Project Name. Enter a name for the new project and click OK

4 Create a New Subject How to create a New Subject Click New by the Subject box. Type in Subject s name and other desired information 3. Click OK

5 Important Facts to Remember Green means Go Red means Stop (Go Back/Close this window) Gray means to do an Action

6 How to Setup Muscle Names 3 1. Click Measure in the Database screen to go to the Measurement Setup screen.. Select the Muscle Names for each channel by dragging or clicking the muscles on the Muscle Man 3. Click Start to go to the Measurement Monitor screen

7 Next Steps to Record Data Preview Data Before Recording. Have patient relax, then click Zero Offset 3. Click Record 4. Record Data 5. Use Pause, Freeze or Start Over to interrupt recording 6. Click Finish when you are done recording.

8 Save & View Data Type in a new name or click OK to use the default name.. If View the Measurement is checked, the data will be displayed. 3. This is raw data. Click Signal Processing to process the data.

9 Rectify Data 1 1. Click on Rectification in Available Operations. Click Insert 3. Rectification now appears in Selected Operations 3 4 NOTE: Order does matter! 4. Usually you will select Channels by type : EMG (The other option is channels by number.) 5. Click OK 5

10 Smooth Data 1 1. Click on Smoothing in Available Operations. Click Insert 3. Smoothing will appear in Selected Operations. NOTE: Order does matter! For this exercise, we will select: 1. Algorithm: RMS. Window: 100 ms 3. Channels by type: EMG (You can also select channels by number) 5. Click OK. 5

11 How to Analyze Data Verify that you have processed your data correctly.. Add markers, if desired, by double-clicking in the data where you want the marker. 3. Click Analyze (The Select Report screen will appear.) 4. For this example, select Symmetry Report 5. Click OK. 5

12 How to Define Periods The way you define your periods depends on the type of study (ex: gait, upper body), study design, and the report/variables. Example: Symmetry Report - Define Periods: Manual/mouse 3. Click on the little blue double arrow 4. Highlight the area with the mouse that you want to analyze. 5. Click Set (A yellow horizontal bar with Begin will show the period) 6. Click Next

13 Compare Channels 1 1. For our Symmetry example: Check Enable Comparison.. Click on the icon Compare Sides. (This selection will compare the channels with the identical muscle name and the designation LT and RT in the side column in the Measurement Setup screen (Channels). 3. Click Finish 3

15 How to Copy/Backup Data 1. Click Copy from the appropriate menu. Choose the desired External Directory 3. Select the correct Copy button to copy the data either into or from MyoResearch XP. 4. Click Close

16 Copy Projects Click Organize. Click Copy 3. Select External Projects

17 Copying Subjects or Records This menu should say Subjects 1. Click in this panel. Click Copy Copy Subjects This menu should say Records 1. Click in this panel. Click Copy Copy Records

18 Select External Directory This window is asking you to choose a location to save the data from MyoResearch XP. In that location, the data will be saved in a Noraxon Data folder. In this example, if you select Desktop, it will add the data to the existing Noraxon Data folder.

19 Local & External Records What do Local and External Records mean? Local Records: Records (Subjects, Projects) that are located inside MyoResearch XP. External Records: Records (Subjects, Projects) that are NOT located inside the MyoResearch XP database.

20 Video Camera Setup How do I set up my Video Camera with MyoResearch XP 1. Load any drivers required by your video camera onto your computer. Download DivX codec ( from the internet to view the Demo Records with video 3. Install MPeg4 codec on your computer if it is not already there. 4. Plug your video camera into your computer.

21 How do I start the Video wizard? Video Wizard 1. From the Measurement Setup (Muscle Man) screen, click the Hardware icon. Locate the Video Input box and click Settings

22 Video Input Device & Frame Rate Usually the default video input device is the correct one. Enabling audio will increase the size of the record significantly. 3. Unless you are familiar with frame rates, use the default values

23 Video Compressor 1 3 Recommended 4 1. Record a sample video. Click Next 3. Select a video compressor 4. Click Next

24 Final Steps to Setup Video Determine if the video quality is satisfactory. Click Finish 3. Click OK to exit the Hardware Setup Screen. (not shown) 4. In the Measurement Setup screen, Click on Video in the Meas. Options menu 5. Check Enable Video 6. Click OK
