1 EMDVirtualKeyboard ActiveX Keyboard Control for Touch Screen Applications Just the Right Touch EMD Software s EMDVirtualKeyboard is an ActiveX Control that is ideal for the application developer planning to provide touch screen or keyboardless functionality and requires a flexible means of providing user keyboard input, function keys, or calculator functionality. The EMDVirtualKeyboard Control was designed for industrial applications and enables developers to build innovative and creative keyboard designs with non-rectangular windows and transparent back-grounds. The EMDVirtualKeyboard can be applied applications such as: Industrial Operator/Machine Interfaces Point of Sale applications, and Information Kiosks. EMDVirtualKeyboard functionality EMDVboard control simulates an actual keyboard and was designed to be used with touch screen or keyboardless applications. The EMDVBoardDlg control provides a complete set of keyset objects that invoke : A 103 key QWERTY keyboard, Standard keyboard, Function keys, Arrow keys, Text keypad, Numeric keypad, Modal or non-modal calculator. You use the EMDVBoardDlg control in your application by adding it to a form and setting its properties. The dialog displayed by the control is determined by the methods of the control. At run time, a dialog box is displayed when the appropriate method is invoked; at design time, the EMDVBoardDlg control is displayed as an icon on a form. 2 1 To add the EMDVirtualKeyboard to your VB application: Right Click your mouse on the Toolbox and select the Components option from the context sensitive menu. 2 Double click on the ShowCalculator Push-button and type in the following code: VBoardDlg.ShowCalculator(0.0) Select the EMD Vboard1.5 in the component list. Drag the EMDVBoardDlg User control from the VB Toolbar and drop it on the default form named Form1 in the form window. The user control is now a part of your application. You can now assign an EMDVBoardDlg method to a pushbutton object click event. 3 Run your application and click on the ShowCalculator Button to see the Calculator displayed. It is a simple as that!
3 The EMDVBoard.NET 2006 Programming Model EMDVBoardDlg Object GetCalculated GetNumber GetText ShowCalculator EMDVBoard Object BezelColor Large Multiline Movable ShowNavigationKeys Small Transparency BackStyle BezelColor BorderWidth CapLock Large MaskColor MaskPicture NumLock Picture ScrollLock SendKeys Small The EMDVBoardDlg control provides a set of dialogs for bringing up a number pad, keypad, modal or non-modal calculator. This is useful in touch screen applications that are used with machines without a keyboard. EMDVboard control simulates an actual keyboard and was designed to be used with touch screen or keyboardless applications.
4 KeySet_Calc UserInterface: KeySet_CancelOK SendKeys KeySet_DefaultClear CancelClick OKClick The KeySet_Calc user control provides the set of keys available on a standard calculator. It does not provide the calculator functionality, only the keyset. However, the GetCalculated or ShowCalculator methods of VBoardDlg can be used to bring to a fully-functional Calculator. UserInterface: The KeySet_CancelOK is a set of 2 keys a Cancel Key and an OK key. UserInterface: ClearClick DefaultClick The KeySet_DefaultClear is a set of 2 keys a default Key and a clear key.
5 KeySet_Function Object KeySet_Nav Object BackStyle CapLock FKeySet ScrollLock SendKeys NavKeySet SendKeys The KeySet_Function control provides a set of keys simulating the function keys on the keyboard. The control provides 6 sets of keys depending on value chosen for the FKeyset. The KeySet_Nav provides a set of keys simulating the page and arrow navigation keys on the keyboard. The property NavKeySet determines the keyset provided by the control.
6 KeySet_Num Object Large NumLock SendKeys Small KeySet_NumOnly Object SendKeys The KeySet_Num control provides a set of keys that appear on the right hand side of the keyboard. Some of the keys on the keyboard provide dual functionality. By toggling the Numlock property the keyset can be used either for navigation or for numeric entry if the SendKeys property is true. The KeySet_NumOnly control provides a set of keys for numbers. It also has a backspace key. This can be used on a numberpad.
7 KeySet_STD Object CapLock Large SendKeys Small The KeySet_STD control provides a set of keys that simulates a standard keyset including the alpha keys, shift, alt, ctrl, caps lock, tab, backspace, enter, and the number keys that appear on top of the alpha keys on the keyboard. By enabling the SendKeys property, the control can send keystrokes to any editable control in focus.
8 Development Environment The requirements for using the EMDVirtualKeyboard for development purposes will be for that of Microsoft Visual Studio.
