2 This module will cover Opening a Document Inserting Text Deleting a Character Deleting a Word Deleting a Line Opening a document Turn on the BrailleNote APEX From the Main Menu, choose Word Processor by pressing W 2
3 Opening a document cont d For the purpose of this tutorial, using the scroll keys, open tester in the General Folder. We created this document in the previous module. Opening a document cont d Press O to open a document The BrailleNote APEX will announce: Folder name? Press ENTER for General 3
4 Opening a document cont d Press ENTER to select the General Folder or press SPACEBAR until you see the folder you ve saved the file tester. The BrailleNote APEX will announce: Document to open? Press ENTER for name of document Opening a document cont d Press ENTER to select the current document or press SPACEBAR until you see the folder you ve saved the file tester. The BrailleNote APEX will announce: first line of document or the line where the cursor was last left 4
5 Inserting Text cont d The text in this document should already read: Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these broken wings and learn to fly All your life You were only waiting for this moment to arise by the Beatles NO TEXT? If you do not have this text entered into the device from the previous module please go back to the SET- BC device tutorial page and download the Entering Sample Text and use it as a guide to input the text into a document for the following exercises. ENTER URL OF SAMPLE TEXT DOCUMENT HERE 5
6 Inserting Text Start at the beginning of the document. Press SPACEBAR Inserting Text Moving word by word press SPACEBAR- 5 until you reach the word of of the phrase dead of night Each time you press SPACE- 5, the BrailleNote APEX will read each word out. 6
7 Inserting Text cont d When moving word to word, the cursor ends up on the first cell of the word. For example, on the refreshable braille display, you will see Blackbird singing in the dead of night Note: The cursor is depicted in the two lowest cell positions and is indicated with the red box above. Inserting Text When inserting text, remember that text will always be inserted to the LEFT of the cursor. You also need to pay attention to the space before and after the text you insert. 7
8 Inserting Text cont d We will be inserting the word dark into the text. To type dark, enter the follow key combinations The text should now read: Blackbird singing in the dead dark of night Inserting Text cont d Read the current paragraph back by pressing SPACEBAR
9 Deleting a character To delete one character at a time, press SPACEBAR- D. Deleting a character cont d For this exercise, press SPACEBAR- 5 to navigate to the word broken of the phrase Take these broken wings 9
10 The cursor should now be under the first cell of the word broken. Take these broken wings and learn to fly Deleting a character cont d SPACEBAR- D deletes the character at the position of the cursor. Press SPACEBAR- D until the word is deleted. You would have pressed SPACEBAR- D ten times total, once each for b,r,o,k,en. 10

13 Deleting a line To delete the current line, press BACKSPACE Deleting a line cont d For this exercise, press SPACEBAR- 5 to navigate to the line that reads By the Beatles 13
14 Deleting a line cont d by the Beatles Press BACKSPACE- 1-4 This will delete the current line at the position of the cursor. Deleting a line cont d The BrailleNote APEX will announce: Delete to end of sentence. Sure? Press Y to answer Yes 14
