8 How to use the Tools New surface section Edit curves and control points Add control points Delete control points Rotate shape Define shape centre Image 16: Tools toolbar 8.1 New surface section This tool is used to create a new shape from a blank grid or add lines to an existing shape. To create a new line Select the New surface section tool. 1. <Left mouse click> on the grid to place a control point. 2. Move the mouse to another location and <Left mouse click> to create another control point. 3. <Right mouse click> to finish the line. Or repeat steps 1 and 2 to add more control points New shape To make the lines of the shape join to make a closed perimeter you have to create two separate lines and the program will connect the ends to form a closed perimeter. For example, if you want to make a square lay two parallel lines (see Image 17) Image 17: Two parallel lines with four control points ORTHEMA Page 13 of 21

The program will connect the perpendicular parallel sides when you drop the tool after the second line is drawn (see Image 18). Image 18: The program creates two lines (5) to close the perimeter If the user attempts to add a new line in an incompatible position (for example connecting two user created lines) the program will still connect the new line end points to the computer generated lines. This can cause the shape to deform. It is recommended to save a shape before adding new lines so that the original form can be recovered. There is not an option to undo an addition of a new line once it is added. It is possible to correct the shape outline by selecting the newly added control points and dragging them to position where the computer generated lines ran (see Image 19 to Image 22. User generated lines New user generated line Computer generated lines Image 19: Additionally to the three horizontal user lines a fourth vertical line is created Image 20: The new line stays vertical but the control points of the computer generated lines are dragged to the ends of the new line Image 21: Drag the newly added control points to position where the computer generated lines run Image 22: Corrected shape ORTHEMA Page 14 of 21

8.2 Edit curves and control points This tool is used to re-position the control points to adjust the perimeter of the designed shape. To use: 1. Select the Edit curves and control points tool. 2. <Left mouse click> to select the control point, it will turn yellow for active. Hold and drag the control point to move its position. Image 23: Edit control point position Select multiple control points It is possible to select more than one control point to move at once. This allows the user to elongate or widen the shape without losing curves. 1. <Left mouse click> and drag a catchment around all the control points you want to move at once. 2. Release the <Left mouse click> and the selected control points will be activated yellow. 3. <Left mouse click> on the active yellow line and drag to a new position. The remaining control points will hold their position. Image 24: Select multiple control points Image 25: Move control points simultaneously ORTHEMA Page 15 of 21

8.2.2 Use handlebars to modify curves To modify the lines to curve add handlebars to the control points. 1. Select the Edit curves and control points tool. 2. Select a control point by clicking on it 3. If the control point has already been adjusted to curve then hold <Left mouse click> on a handlebar and move the mouse to modify the curve. 4. To activate handlebars on a control point hold Shift key + <Left mouse click> + drag mouse away from control point to drag a handlebar out. 5. To reset the handlebars double click on the control point. Image 26: Changing the apex' position Image 27: Changing the radius Orthogonal movement Control points can be moved in orthogonal direction by holding Ctrl key + <Left mouse click> This option assists to maintain the level of control points in relation to each other. Image 28: Original shape Image 29: Control points moved orthogonally ORTHEMA Page 16 of 21

8.3 Add control points 1. Select the Add control points tool. 2. <Left mouse click> on the line that the control points are to be added. The line will be activated and turn yellow. 3. <Left mouse click> on the point on the line where a control point is to be added. 4. <Right mouse click> to drop the tool when finished adding control points on one line. Image 30: Add control points to active line 8.4 Delete control points To delete control points: 1. Select the Delete control points tool. 2. <Left mouse click> on the control point to be deleted or drag a catchment around up to three control points. 3. Press Delete on keyboard. Control points positioned at line ends or combining user and computer generated lines cannot be deleted. Lines cannot be deleted. ORTHEMA Page 17 of 21

8.5 Rotate shape 1. Select Rotate shape tool. 2. <Left mouse click> on the grid to place the rotation centre. The position the rotation centre is placed in relation to the shape becomes the central axis point. 3. Hold <Left mouse click> on the purple centre circle and move the mouse to reposition the rotation centre. 4. Hold <Left mouse click> and move the yellow control point on the outer circle to rotate the shape around the axis. Image 31: Rotation centre within the perimeter Image 32: Rotation outside the perimeter 8.6 Define shape centre In OrthoWin when the user inserts a correction shape from the Type of correction drop down library there are 2 toggle axis. The left toggle is to position the shape. Click on the central cross of the shape and use drag & drop to position it. Click on this cross and use drag & drop to rotate the shape. Image 33: Correction shape in OrthoWin With this tool you can define the shape centre which is the point where the shape is rotated around in OrthoWin. It is recommended to check the position of the shape centre toggle before exporting the shape to OrthoWin. To use: 1. Select the Define shape centre tool. The toggle will appear on the grid in all 3 views. 2. Hold <Left mouse click> and drag to move the toggle to the desired position. ORTHEMA Page 18 of 21

8.7 To add height dimension 1. Create a line through the middle of the shape using the New surface section tool. 2. The line must go between the lines generated by the software not the user. (see Image 34) 3. Insert a control point in the middle of this line (see section 8.3 Add a control point) Image 34: Line with control point for height dimension 4. Select the Edit curves and control points tool. On the Side view select the inserted control point and <Left mouse click> + move mouse upwards. (see Image 35) Image 35: Increase height dimension in Side view ORTHEMA Page 19 of 21
