New Features Hiero<>Nuke integration has been added, which is a series of scripts allowing you to easily interchange media between Hiero and Nuke sessions, or alternatively HieroPlayer and Nuke sessions, when running on the same machine. This facilitates quicker interactions between the applications, and a smoother overall user experience. Multi-threaded reads - multiple frames are now optionally read in parallel using multiple threads, depending on your hardware and the number of processor cores available. These are controlled through the Preferences > Performance submenu. The helper settings for OpenEXR and ARRI default behaviour has changed. The default 0 (automatic) sets the number of helper threads to half the total number of cores, as opposed to the number of cores minus one. Hiero and HieroPlayer s scopes now allow you to choose between rec601 and rec709 for display. Navigate to Preferences > Scopes and use the Luma/chroma encoding dropdown to select the required option. BUG ID A new Warning state has been added to the Export Queue for tasks that run to completion but report errors. BUG ID You can now Burn-in tags and notes during export by pulling the required information from the metadata. Firstly, add a tag to the metadata using the following key value pairs: hiero/tags/<tagname> : <tagname> hiero/tags/<tagname>/note : <tagnote>

2 Feature Enhancements 2 Then extract the tag from the metadata by entering a command in a Burn-in field. For example: [metadata hiero/tags/approved] BUG ID A new conform option has been added to the Conform dialog. When Ignore clips with non-overlapping timecodes is enabled, any potentially matching clip whose timecode doesn't overlap the track item at all is ignored. BUG ID 31267/ Open in Nuke and Send to Nuke now processes Collate Tracks by building up a sequence which is offset and merged relative to a master track item selected during export. BUG ID Moving In and Out markers or tags in the Viewer or timeline now displays a preview, allowing you to reposition the markers more easily. BUG ID A new Scan for file sequence range preference has been added to Preferences > General. When enabled, dragging a single file or file range that is part of an image sequence, creates a clip in the bin view containing all available frames. When disabled, only the dragged frame or range is imported into the bin. Feature Enhancements HieroNuke has been updated to Nuke 7. Hiero<>Nuke - Open in Nuke sends collated clips (either vertically or horizontally) to a single Nuke session. Track items sent to existing Nuke session are now offset relative to the target Nuke script range. The bundled OCIO build has been updated to match Nuke 7. Versioning up or down past known versions now automatically scans for new versions, when enabled in the Preferences. Version scanning now shows a progress bar, which can be cancelled if desired. A new Replace Clip(s) function has been added, similar to the previous Reconnect Media behaviour. Replace Clip(s) can be used to force replace a clip with another without observing rules otherwise enforced by Reconnect Media. A new Tags option has been added to the right-click menu for the Viewer and bin, track and spreadsheet items allowing you to apply tags to your selection without opening the Tags tab. The versioning system has been improved to accept versions with differing frame, version, and folder number padding, as well as different file extensions. You can also right-click a clip and select Version > Open in Versions bin to display all scanned versions.

3 Bug Fixes 3 BUG ID The Conform Options dialog now has Select/Unselect All buttons. BUG ID Hiero<>Nuke: The layout of the Hiero<>Nuke tab has been improved. BUG ID The Nuke Project File > Collate Tracks function in the Export dialog now merges track items with the same shot name into a single shot. BUG ID 31877/ Hiero now warns if you close the Export dialog without saving changes to the Export Presets. BUG ID 31760/ A new Preferences submenu, Script Editor, has been added. You can set the font style, tab indent size, and whether or not the script history is restored. BUG ID Mac only: Memory management has been improved to avoid sluggishness when swapping between applications on Mac OS X Lion. BUG ID Windows only: Hiero and HieroPlayer crashed when QuickTime was not installed. BUG ID Audio files were not audible when added to a sequence with non-integer framerates. BUG ID The Handles and Tracks controls in the Export dialog occasionally obscured the shot template.

BUG ID Some metadata was ignored when a QuickTime clip was read into Hiero or HieroPlayer. BUG ID Retime values were not stored correctly in EDLs when exported using Process as Sequence. BUG ID 30069/ Adding a multi-channel.exr file to both Viewer inputs in horizontal compare mode forced the background of input B to display grey (or green when the scaling is outside the Format guide). BUG ID Changing versions in the Viewer changed the Image Quality setting. BUG ID RAM cached clips re-fetched frames from the source rather than the cache. BUG ID Importing a large number of clips and switching the bin view to full screen caused Hiero and HieroPlayer to crash or become unresponsive when scrolling up and down the bin. BUG ID Conforming R3D clips matched several events to a single clip when connecting to.mov file generated by REDCINE-X. BUG ID Windows only: Copying and Pasting a clip from Hiero to Nuke set a bad Read node filepath to the source clip. BUG ID Monitor Out: Using Reformat > Turn on a.png caused the Viewer output to become squeezed on the x axis.

BUG ID Custom workspaces did not restore as expected when using a multi-screen setup. BUG ID Some Viewer settings were not saved with the associated project. BUG ID The Export dialog did not warn on closing when it contained unsaved templates. BUG ID Temporary audio files created during QuickTime generation were not deleted on completion. BUG ID Ctrl/Cmd dragging the Viewer In and Out marker range did not update the markers on the timeline. BUG ID Applying Refresh Clips to split sequences or single frames, incorrectly reloaded the entire available frame range. BUG ID Using Open in Timeline on a bin clip occasionally produced a corrupt image in the Viewer. BUG ID Exporting an extremely high number of clips caused Hiero to crash. BUG ID Setting the Viewer fps field to an extremely high framerate caused Hiero and HieroPlayer to become unresponsive. BUG ID The Overwrite colliding items option did not work as expected when Build Track was selected for offline clips on the target track. BUG ID EDLs containing transitions leading directly into other transitions, such as a fade in leading into a dissolve, were not exported correctly. BUG ID The spreadsheet didn t update when the Sequence tab's Time Display setting was changed. BUG ID It was possible to copy and paste track items between projects, which occasionally created instability. BUG ID Importing.psd files was extremely slow. BUG ID Ctrl/Cmd dragging the Viewer In and Out marker range caused the playhead to move erratically. BUG ID Exporting sequences with multiple offline track items occasionally pushed the Cancel export and Export offline buttons off screen. BUG ID Windows only: The Tab auto-complete file browser function didn t select the target item, resulting in the Open button remaining greyed out. BUG ID Decode errors appeared on the wrong frames in split sequences if the sequence did not start at zero.

6 Bug Fixes 6 BUG ID Bin clips did not update when versioned up or down in the Viewer when the playhead was not within the correct frame range. BUG ID Windows only: A QuickTime read error displayed on all clips when versioning up and down. BUG ID Dissolves added between retimed clips produced incorrect transition frames. BUG ID Disconnecting from a network drive containing in use media caused Hiero and HieroPlayer to display blank frames and become unresponsive. BUG ID QuickTime audio track lengths were occasionally inconsistent with the associated video tracks, producing spuriously long track items. BUG ID Playing.iff clips occasionally produced corrupt frames. BUG ID Versioning track items up and down using the hotkeys did not work as expected if frames were missing from the version files. BUG ID Choosing not to save a project when closed deleted any existing autosave. BUG ID Saving after loading from an autosave file saved to the autosave rather than the original.hrox file. BUG ID Reconnecting certain.iff files caused Hiero and HieroPlayer to crash. BUG ID QuickTime timecodes were read incorrectly. BUG ID Saving a project deleted its autosave file. BUG ID 32668/ Disconnecting from a network drive during thumbnail generation caused Hiero and HieroPlayer to crash or display unrecoverable thumbnail errors on bin clips. BUG ID Selecting multiple sequences in the Project tab and navigating to File > Export > Process as Sequence displayed an empty Export dialog. BUG ID Navigating to File > Save As... did not always open the file browser. BUG ID The EDL exporter did not consistently produce the expected EDL when exporting track item selections. BUG ID QuickTime ProRes clips did not honour timecode changes when exported. BUG ID The Preferences > Path substitutions table displayed OS X and Linux the wrong way around. BUG ID Using the 1 and 2 hotkeys to repeatedly send bin clips to the Viewer in A/B horizontal mode caused Hiero and HieroPlayer to crash or become unresponsive.

7 Known Issues and Workarounds 7 BUG ID Entering invalid locations in the Preferences > General > Path substitutions table caused Hiero and HieroPlayer to crash. BUG ID Entries in the Export Queue occasionally displayed a status of Background indefinitely. BUG ID The timeline right-click Mark Clip function (Shift+A) did not work as expected. Known Issues and Workarounds If you re working with R3D clips using the new REDcolor3 and REDgamma3, or ARRIRAW clips, please use the internal HieroNuke or an external Nuke 7 for transcoding. External Nuke 6 applications don t include the necessary SDK updates. Linux only: Hiero does not currently support any QuickTime audio. Support for audio on Linux is scheduled for a later release. Linux only: HD QuickTime H.264 playback performance is not optimised, but will be addressed in a later release. On low-specification machines, closing the scopes can improve playback performance. The Preferences > Path substitution table for cross platform compatibility currently only comes into effect at project load, not EDL/ XML import. As a workaround, import your sequence and set the Path substitution rule, then save the project and reload to force the conversion. BUG ID Some customers have experienced unexpected shifts in chroma values when using the ProRes 4444.mov codec. A possible workaround is to modify the GlobalSettings.csv found in the following locations, but please be aware that this workaround is not reliable in every case: Mac OS X /Applications//.app/Contents/Resources/ Windows C:\Program Files\\ Add the following lines to the bottom of the.csv file: # Apple ProRes 4444 encode,ap4h,appl,any,any,512 decode,ap4h,appl,any,any,512 BUG ID Linux only: Playback can be unreliable on the latest versions of the various Linux builds, such as Fedora 14 (or greater) and Centos 6.0. If you encounter this issue, run Hiero from the terminal with the following argument:

8 Known Issues and Workarounds 8./Hiero --single-threaded-playback BUG ID Copy/paste of transitions doesn t work as expected. BUG ID Hiero and HieroPlayer do not support the NVIDIA Quadro 4500 FX and GeForce 7300 GT. BUG ID Mac and Linux only: Projects containing large amounts of movie files (for example.r3d and.mov) may exceed the number of available file handles per process, causing problems opening new files or projects and exporting. The default limit of 1024 can be increased to workaround this issue using the terminal. For example: ulimit -Sn 2048 Run Hiero or HieroPlayer from the same terminal session to use the new limit, for that session only. BUG ID It is not currently possible to alter the Output Resolution of clips opened using the right-click Open in Timeline option. BUG ID Linux only: AJA card monitor output is not currently supported. BUG ID Monitor Out: Certain formats produce no monitor output, such as 2K and 720P 25. BUG ID Windows only: Hiero cannot currently parse unicode characters during export. BUG ID Retiming.mov files containing missing (out of range) frames, produces unexpected results when sent to Nuke. BUG ID Windows only: Monitor output is not supported on machines with AMD graphics cards. BUG ID Monitor Out: Audio playback can be choppy when using AJA cards. BUG ID Adding a MediaSource to TrackItem.setSource() causes Hiero and HieroPlayer to become unstable. BUG ID Hiero s exporters do not currently support multipass H.264.mov transcodes. BUG ID Mac only: When running the application from the terminal, pressing ctrl + C doesn t always close Hiero or HieroPlayer. As a workaround, press ctrl + C twice to exit. BUG ID Sub-sampling in.exr files is not currently supported. BUG ID Single layer exports from multi-pass clips fail if the selected layer is not a default Nuke layer, such as depth or motion. BUG ID Hiero and HieroPlayer now load the QuickTime quirks file (Globalsettings.csv) correctly, allowing certain QuickTime codecs to be read the same way as other packages. This means that some.mov

9 Known Issues and Workarounds 9 and.mp4 files now render slightly differently in Hiero 1.6 when compared to Hiero 1.0. BUG ID The.gif file format is no longer supported. BUG ID Mac only: The AJA Kona 3G is only supported on Mac OS X Lion. BUG ID Windows only: Initialising Blackmagic Extreme 2 monitor out cards causes Hiero to become unresponsive. BUG ID Windows only: Switching Monitor Output to 10-bit causes a drop in framerate. BUG ID MacBook Pro only: AJA Io XT monitor out cards playback 8-bit output at a lower framerate than expected. BUG ID Windows only: 4k clips reformatted to HD using the Sequence > Reformat tab are not displayed correctly when directed to monitor output. BUG ID Linux only: Dragging clips to the timeline with certain older NVIDIA drivers occasionally causes Hiero and HieroPlayer to crash. As a workaround, ensure that you have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed, available from:

NOTE: See Help > Python Dev Guide from the Hiero menu bar for more information on the Python API. New Features BUG ID Documentation has been added for the foundry.rpc module. BUG ID You can now get Python kselectionchanged events from the timeline and bin view using the event.sender.selection() method. Feature Enhancements BUG ID The Python examples shipped with Hiero and HieroPlayer have been edited for clarity. BUG ID The setintime() and setouttime() methods now match what the interface permits when setting in and out points on a clip or sequence.
