AT software V1.10 and later supports the following option boards: Down converter (HKDW-902) Slow shutter/image inverter (HKDW-950R) NOTE: Details of the new features and improvements are documented on pages 7 11 of this bulletin. 2 UPGRADE PROCEDURE CAUTION: DO NOT downgrade software or firmware versions! Operation of the camcorder and data retention are not guaranteed after downgrading. NOTE: The following system requirements and instructions under Copy Software to Memory Stick are required only if you download software from the SoftwarePLUS website. System Requirements Memory stick, 128 MB or lower PC interface adapter (Use one of the following to copy data from the PC to a memory stick): PCMCIA card adapter MSAC-PC2N Floppy disk adapter MSAC-FD2M VAIO computer with memory stick slot USB supported writer/reader MSAC-US1 Archive utility for Windows (such as WinZip) Copy Software to Memory Stick 1. Open the HDW-F900R v1_12.zip file. 2. Select the WinZip option Use folder names, and extract the f900rat.rom file to the memory stick. NOTE: The following directory is created automatically, and the f900rat.rom is copied to the HDWF900R folder: \MSSONY\PRO\CAMERA\HDWF900R NOTE: As an alternative procedure, you can create the directory described above, and copy the f900rat.rom file to the HDWF900R folder. Back Up Settings Using ALL FILE SAVE 1. Insert a memory stick in the camcorder. 2. Set the MENU ON/OFF switch to ON. 3. Select FILE menu > ALL FILE, and press the rotary encoder. (See Figure 1.) Figure 1 4. Select F. ID, and input the file ID. Page 2 of 11
3 5. Select ALL FILE SAVE, and press the rotary encoder. 6. Select a destination file at the file selection page, and press the rotary encoder. (See Figure 2.) Figure 2 7. Confirm the message COMPLETE! appears on the ALL FILE page. Upgrade AT Software 1. Turn main power ON, and set the MENU ON/OFF switch to ON. 2. Select DIAGNOSIS menu > ROM VERSION. 3. Insert the memory stick containing the software file in the camcorder. NOTE: The message MEMORY STICK ACCESS appears. Wait for the message to disappear. 4. Confirming the cursor is a question mark (?), press the rotary encoder for a few seconds until the system enters version upgrade mode. The message MEMORY STICK ACCESS appears. (See Figure 3.) NOTE: DO NOT remove the memory stick while the message MEMORY STICK ACCESS appears. Figure 3 Page 3 of 11
4 5. Select the desired ROM to upgrade, and press the rotary encoder. Confirm the message VERSION UP OK appears. (See Figure 4.) Figure 4 6. Select YES, and press the rotary encoder. The upgrade starts automatically, and the display changes as shown in Figure 5. Figure 5 The message changes to Initializing..., Checking..., Reading ROM data... Within several seconds, the display changes and flashes. (See Figure 6.) Figure 6 The message changes to 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 at five-second intervals. After approximately five seconds, the display changes, and the message Power off flashes. (See Figure 7.) Page 4 of 11
5 Figure 7 CAUTION: Do not remove the memory stick or power off the unit before the message Complete appears. 7. Turn power OFF and ON after the message Power off flashes. Load Settings Using ALL FILE LOAD Load the settings that were saved before the upgrade as follows: 1. Insert the memory stick containing the backup settings in the camcorder. 2. Set the MENU ON/OFF switch to ON. 3. Select FILE menu > ALL FILE, and press the rotary encoder. (See Figure 8.) Figure 8 4. Select ALL FILE LOAD, and input the file ID. 5. Select the file at the file selection page, and press the rotary encoder. (See Figure 9.) Figure 9 6. Confirm the message COMPLETE! appears at the ALL FILE page. Page 5 of 11
6 VCO FREQUENCY ADJUSTMENT Serial Numbers 10,001 10,075 Only After the upgrade (for units with serial numbers 10,001 10,075 only), readjust VCO frequency with the 59.94i format as follows. NOTE: Allow the unit to warm up for approximately ten minutes before starting the adjustment. 1. Connect equipment as shown in Figure Align as follows: Measuring point: Figure 10 TP1 (C-2)/DCP-43 board (when DC-110A board is not installed) TP1 (A-2)/DC-110A board (Surface A) (when DC-110A board is installed) Alignment point: MENU: SERVICE PAGE: 05*DCP ADJUST ITEM: VCO CONT Specification: ±100 MHz (59.94i mode) Page 6 of 11
7 NEW FEATURES Down Converter (HKDW-902R) The down converter option board (HKDW-902R: DC-139) is supported. The board supports the following functions: 2-3 pull down of HD signal Down convert to SD signal Related menu items are added to the OUTPUT SEL page of the OPERATION menu. (See Figure 11.) Figure 11 Slow Shutter/Image Inverter (HKDW-905R) The slow shutter/image inverter option board (HKDW-905R: PM-28) is supported. The board supports the following functions: Slow shutter (1-32 frame) Image inverter The menu item is added to FILE menu > LENS FILE3 Page > IMAGE INVERT PROGRAM IMPROVEMENTS VCO Frequency Adjustment In units with serial numbers 10,001 10,075, the value of the VCO frequency adjustment may differ from specification. With new software, the adjusted value for 59.94i is copied to the adjusted value for 50i, and the VCO frequency adjusted value for 50i is updated to the appropriate value. After upgrading software, readjust VCO frequency for 59.94i as described under VCO FREQUENCY ADJUSTMENT on page 6. SS Communication Error When communication with the SS microprocessor for VTR control is disrupted, the AT microprocessor controls alarm processing, and issues an error. The TALLY/Warning then blinks in 4 Hz, and the following error message blinks on the VF: VTR ERROR! POWER OFF > ON NOTE: If the message keeps appearing even after the unit is powered OFF and ON, the unit may need to be serviced. Page 7 of 11
8 Fan Operation When FAN mode is set to AUTO, and INTERVAL REC is performed, the fan no longer stops. This improvement prevents the unit from over-heating if left in INTERVAL REC for a long period of time. DCC Function The knee point is now set appropriately when DCC ADJUST menu item DCC FUNCTION SEL is set to FIX. Switching from PB to EE When switching from PB to EE, picture distortion is decreased, and the monitor is no longer out of sync. HDVF-C30W When HDVF-C30W is connected, and power is turned ON, or when HDVF-C30W is disconnected when power is still ON, the VF ASPECT setting no longer changes. When HDVF-C30W is connected, VF EEPROM status on the DEV STATUS page is displayed as --- rather than as NG. CLAMP Convergence Value The CLAMP convergence value is improved so that the picture no longer becomes yellowish when gain is 30 db/42 db. WIDE AWB Operation If white gain exceeds its threshold when performing AWB, 5600K ON/OFF is now switched properly via the WIDE AWB function. WHITE GAIN Setting The WHITE GAIN setting for ATW is now stored properly when performing SCENE FILE STORE during ATW. ATW Operation ATW operates correctly and is not affected when the MENU SW is switched. Operations Prohibited during REC To protect the REC operation, the following menu operations are prohibited during recording: CACHE REC TIME CAHCE/INTERVAL REC TAKE TOTAL TIME, REC TIME NUMBER OF FRAME PRE-LIGHTING TRIGGER INTERVAL VF 2-3 PULLDOWN (HKDW-902R) IMAGE INVERT (HKDW-905R) USER PRESET, CLEAR USER PRESET ALL PRESET, CLEAR ALL PRESET STANDARD, SCENE 1 5 REFERENCE LOAD, REFERENCE CLEAR Page 8 of 11
9 LENS FILE SELECT, LENS NO OFFSET USER GAMMA LOAD ALL FILE LOAD, USER FILE LOAD SCENE RECALL, LENS FILE RECALL NOTE: If the YES/NO confirmation message is displayed, the message is cancelled, and a warning message appears. If the FILE selection screen is displayed, the File selection is disabled, and a warning message appears. KNEE SATURATION Operation When KNEE SATURATION is ON, the following settings are disabled: R/B KNEE POINT R/B KNEE SLOPE --- is now displayed for each setting value, and the value cannot be controlled from the MSU or camera. Any attempt to change the value from the camera results in a warning message: KNEE SATURATION IS ON! TELE FILE When TELE FILE is not ready or attached, TELE FILE CLEAR is now disabled. FILE Transfer Processing To protect data during AUTO processing, FILE transfer processing is disabled remotely during the AUTO operation of ABB/AWB. While ABB/AWB/FILE are transferred, the following operations are disabled: STANDARD SCENE FILE STORE SCENE FILE RECALL FILE Operation Messages When FILE operations (such as SCENE FILE RECALL) are performed from RM, the appropriate message is displayed: STANDARD RECALLED STANDARD CANCELED SCENE FILE RECALLED SCENE FILE CANCELED SCENE FILE STORE OK REFERENCE FILE STORE OK LENS FILE STORE OK LENS FILE RECALLED SCENE FILE TRANSFER REFERENCE FILE TRANSFER Page 9 of 11
10 LENS FILE SELECT Operation Operation of LENS FILE SELECT is improved by resetting only those items corresponding to the LENS FILE. Clip Processing Clip processing is improved when HG GAMMA is selected as shown by the GAMMA waveform in Figure 12. FORMER IMPROVED Figure 12 MASTER BLACK Setting with RM-B150 When RM-B150 is connected, the MASTER BLACK setting is now properly reflected when changed. SKIN/MATRIX AREA DETECT Operation When ASPECT SAFETY MARKER is valid, and SKIN/MATRIX AREA DETECT is performed, only the detection area frame is output, and not the ASPECT SAFETY MARKER. TIME CODE Display The TIME CODE display on the VF DISP now disappears properly when DISP TIME CODE is turned ON then OFF. BLANK TAPE Message BLANK TAPE! no longer continues to appear while playing back video after having played a tape that contains some blank sections. ECS Status ECS is no longer turned OFF after ABB is complete when performing ABB with ECS ON. GAIN ISO Display The value for GAIN ISO is now displayed as 1/2 of the value of Imode. LED STD SHUTTER Page Display When SHT DISP MODE is set to DEG, SHUTTER on the <!> LED STD page is displayed as an angle rather than as a speed. Page 10 of 11
11 ABB or AUTO CONCEAL Operation The camera no longer hangs when the RPN CURSOR is ON, and ABB or AUTO CONCEAL is performed. NOTE: RPN CURSOR is forcibly turned OFF. Shutter Speed, ECS Frequency, SLS Frame Number When ALL PRESET/CLEAR ALL PRESET is performed, the following items are set to default: Shutter Speed ECS Frequency SLS Frame Number USER ASSIGN with TESTOUT VFDISP USER ASSIGN is now enabled when TESTOUT VFDISP is ON, even if VF DISP is OFF. USER ASSIGN on VF DISP When PRESET/CLEAR PRESET/ALL FILE LOAD/USER FILE LOAD is performed, and the standard ASSIGN item is assigned to ASSIGN SW2, the USER ASSIGN item is now erased and no longer remains on the VF DISP. TESTOUT VFDISP Character TESTOUT VFDISP character no longer flickers when file operations are performed from the MSU. Black Level Fluctuation Black level no longer fluctuates by 3 4% approximately 30 minutes after power-on due to temperature changes. V Shading Fluctuation The output value of V SAW correction is modified to prevent V shading fluctuation. Page 11 of 11
