1 Get Ready 1.1 Software download & installation 1. Visit and go to download page. 2. Or visit and select PMS Mobilizer under Products. 3. Click on download button and save setup.zip in your computer. 4. Unpack setup.zip to setup.exe. 5. Run setup.exe. (You need administrative rights to install the software.) 6. After installation, you will see a desktop shortcut and PMS Mobilizer under PMS on the Windows program menu as shown below. Program menu Desktop shortcut Website: Before begin PMS Mobilizer projects, you have to do the following two important steps: 1. User registration 2. Database configuration 6

1.2 User Registration Run PMS Mobilizer to show the following login screen. Note: You need internet connection to login. Enter your ID as username, PMS Mobilizer password and click on login. Enable check box of Remember Password, if you want to show password next time you login. Create New User: Click on New User to show new user registration form. Enter the required fields and click on Register. Check your to get your PMS Mobilizer password. Retrieve Password: If you forgot your password, click on Forgot Password? and enter your ID to get the password on your . If the computer memory is not enough to meet the recommended standards, you will receive the above warning message. In such case, read the message and act accordingly. Note: If you login first time (if database is not configured), it will take a couple of minutes to diagnose the computer. 7

1.3 Database Installation Note: If SQL Server is already installed in your computer, then skip this step. Microsoft SQL Server Express SQL Server Express can be downloaded freely from Microsoft website. Click on Install Database link to show download site details and installation instructions. Be patient while installing Microsoft SQL Server Express. The deafult instance name is SQLExpress. You can use the same name or use your own name. Do not forget to note down the instance name and password used while installing SQL Server Express. This instance name and password are required to use in PMS Mobilizer database configuration window. Important Note: If you login PMS Mobilizer after restarting the computer followed by the above step, the software will automatically configure database. Internet connection is required to perform this step. If the attempt failed, you can do the final configuration manually by selecting Create Table Structure from the Settings menu of Database Configuration window. 8

1.4 Database Configuration If you login PMS Mobilizer first time on your computer, the software will try to connect database with default settings. It may take a couple of minutes. If the attempts are unsuccessful, you will get the following window. You should be very careful, improper database configuration may result PMS Mobilizer inactive. There are two different cases: Case 1: If SQL Server already installed: If your computer already installed SQL Server properly, then type the server name and SA password and click on Configure Database button. If you do not know your server name and SA password, contact your system administrator to get it. Case 2: If SQL Server does not exist: If SQL Server is not installed on your computer, click on Install Database to display information about how to install and configure database. Follow its instructions very carefully to install Microsoft SQL Server Express. After installing SQL Server Express, use its instance name as server name, password used during database installation as SA password and click on Configure Database button. 9

Rotate mouse wheel to zoom in and out to show the project as shown below. Zoom in closely to display levels as shown. Check the coordinates on the status bar to see the current value of OGL. 16

3.2 Contour map What is Contour Map? Contour lines are curved or straight lines on a map describing the intersection of a real or hypothetical surface with one or more horizontal planes. The configuration of these contours allows map readers to infer relative gradient of a parameter and estimate that parameter at specific places. To create contour map, follow the steps below: Select Generate Contour Map from Drawing menu. Enter contour interval, click on OK and wait till to complete the contour map building. You can control the visibility of the contour map by selecting Contour Map from View menu as shown below. 17

4 Finished Surface Development 4.1 Import road alignments Unlike previous sections, this section consists of two files. Horizontal alignment file and vertical alignment file with different requirements as described below. Horizontal Alignment file format: o Open sample file S1-Road_Horizontal_Alignment.DWG in AutoCAD and zoom through road alignments. See the following specifications in each road alignment. o Alignment is a combination of line and arc segments. One segment end point will be the beginning of other segment. o Road name has to be inserted as a TEXT at exact road beginning (chainage=0) with text string as road name. o If two alignments are beginning at exact same point, one of the start points has to be moved a distance less than 0.5 mm. Vertical Alignment file format: o Open sample file S1-Road_Vertical_Alignment.DWG in AutoCAD and zoom through road alignments. See the following specifications in each road alignment. o The vertical profile of the PGL can be directly copied from the design drawing output. o Road name has to be inserted as a TEXT at exact road beginning (chainage=0) with text string as road name with FGL at start point separated by /. Example: If the road name is R1 and FGL at start point is 5.12 then the text will be R1/5.12. o The PGL default scales are horizontal = 1:1 and vertical = 1:10. To import the road alignment with the above format, follow the steps below: Select Import Road Alignment from Import menu to show the dialog box as shown. Click on the Browse button of the Horizontal Alignment section to select AutoCAD file. 18

If you are using sample project, use the file S1-Road_Vertical_Alignment.DWG from the download folder. Click on the Process button to import the alignment data from the files. Please wait till the progress bar complete. Control the visibility of Horizontal Alignment by selecting Road: Horizontal Alignment from View menu. (Button is also provided with tooltip Show/Hide Road Horizontal Alignment) Control the visibility of Vertical Alignment by selecting Road: Vertical Alignment from View menu. This method is to check the availability of the vertical alignment data over horizontal alignment. Change the colour of alignments from layers. 19

4.2 Profile viewer Road profile viewer is a dialog box to see the longitudinal and cross-section of the nearest mouse position on the project layout. To navigate over the dialog, follow the steps below. Select Road Profile Viewer from View menu. Move the road profile viewer window to a convenient location. Move mouse over the project layout slowly to show the longitudinal section as shown on the picture. If OGL is not properly displayed on the window, select Generate PGL-OGL from Roads menu. 20

4.3 Import road surface strings Road edges, kerb stone, foot path, road signs, right-of-way and other associated objects have to be imported to make the finished surface of the project.
