2 About the product: TOUCHLOCK compact stainless steel is a single door, single keypad access control system. The keypad is suitable for internal and external installations. The keypad is suitable for high use applications. The unit is self contained with the control unit, or decision making electronics, housed within the keypad itself. The unit can be powered by both ac and dc 2V power supplies. The output to the electric release is 2Vdc solid state limited to 5mA continuous and 75mA intermittent (7 seconds). The unit can be programmed with up to 5 user codes containing 4-8 digits each. The user codes can also be associated to a zone. This allows different access levels to be configured as well as time dependant access. An exit button may be connected to the unit. There are two outputs, one for the electric lock and one that can be used for a door bell, duress alarm, keypad tamper, see Programming the TOUCHLOCK. TOUCHLOCK compact stainless steel is available separately or in a kit containing a power supply and electric release. All system settings and the user codes are changed via the keypad. Any number of TOUCHLOCK systems may be installed on a site. TOUCHLOCK switch (Sales code ) is an alternative product that has a separate keypad and control unit. It has two keypad capability for two way access control, voltage free relay contacts for the electric lock, and increased functionality. For more information contact our technical helpline. Page 2

3 Fitting the TOUCHLOCK: Using the template provided, mark and drill holes for the cable and the two screws. Enlarge the upper part of the cable hole as shown in the diagram below: Keypad No8x" Wall plugs Cable Fitting the stainless steel keypad Tap in the wall plugs and screw the top No.8 x posi pan to the wall. Leave the head of the screw about 2mm from the face of the wall. Thread the cable through the wall. Locate the screw into its keyhole on the back of the keypad and slide the keypad down to engage. Remove and adjust as necessary. Tighten down with the bottom No.8 x screw. Which release? The TOUCHLOCK compact can only be used with 2V dc fail open or fail closed; see Programming the TOUCHLOCK, releases. Ensure that the release consumes no more than 5mA for continuous use from 2V, or 75mA for intermittent use. Please refer to manufacturer s instructions for detail on specific releases. The TOUCHLOCK compact reader uses a small residual current to detect the presence of an electric release, used for the data reset procedure. For this reason TOUCHLOCK compact must not be connected directly to a relay coil. Page 3

4 Fitting the electric release: Decide on a suitable position for the electric release on the door frame. Remove the cover of the release. Using the 3.5mm cable clips provided, tack the white cable from the TOUCHLOCK to the release and connect the two wires to the terminals on the release. Polarity does not matter when using a standard 2V dc release. Replace the cover of the release. If using the rim fitting, do not refit the side plate, this is not used. 5 Wiring the unit: The black wires: Power input. The TOUCHLOCK can be powered with 2-5 V ac or dc. On dc systems, the ribbed wire is positive. When using an ac power supply, the polarity is not important. The white wires: Release output. The output is 2V dc. For our standard 2V releases, polarity is not important, but for releases other than this, the ribbed wire is positive. The green wires: Bell output. The default setting for these wires is to give a 2V dc output when the door bell on the keypad is pressed. Alternatively the unit can be programmed to energise the green wires for door open time, when a duress code (user code plus ), is entered. For the programming procedures, see Programming the TOUCHLOCK. The grey wires: Exit button. The grey wires can also be programmed for connection to a time clock. For the programming procedures, see Programming the TOUCHLOCK. For further wiring details see Applications. Backup power: If the TOUCHLOCK is powered solely by a transformer, during a power cut, the unit will retain its memory, but will not function for this time. A backup power supply uses a battery to power the unit in the event of mains power loss. The size of the battery is measured in Ah (Ampere Hours) and will determine how long the unit can operate using battery power alone. For example: A TOUCHLOCK is operating in fail open mode, drawing around 5mA. The maglock that it is operating draws around 45mA. This gives us a total of 5mA or.5a. If the backup battery fitted is rated at Ah, then substituting these figures into the equation below gives us a backup power time of hour and 36 minutes. Backup Power Time = Battery Capacity (Ah) X.8 (TOUCHLOCK current + lock current) (A) The figure,.8, in the equation above is a safety factor and is included because the battery cannot supply full power for the last 2% of its life. If the TOUCHLOCK is operating a fail closed release, then the backup power time is longer. Page 5

6 Initialising the unit: When the TOUCHLOCK is first powered up it will be set to the factory default setting. The master code is set at the factory and is shown on the front cover of this document. Disabled Lock wire setting...2v dc fail closed release Door open time... 7 seconds Code Mode...Single code mode When the unit is data reset the master code will be set at Operation: The TOUCHLOCK can have either a single user code or up to fifty 4-8 digit codes. If in multiple code mode, a user code can be assigned to one of three zones, red, amber and green, see Programming the TOUCHLOCK. As default, all of the zones are enabled however; each zone can be toggled on and off. If a zone is turned off, then the user codes associated to that zone will not work. In this way different levels of access for different users, can be configured. The zones can also be toggled by a time clock, see Applications for wiring. The zones are set to the required configuration for the each of two states of the time clock (On and off). Once this is done the zones will turn on and off as required in relation to the programming of the time clock. The keypad has three LEDs on its face. These LEDs indicate the status of the three zones. A time clock cannot be used in conjunction with an exit button on this product. The green LED will also flash to indicate that a valid code has been entered. When the master code is entered, the amber and green LEDs will go off leaving only the red alight. This indicates that the unit is in programming mode. Lockout is disabled as default and can be enabled by following the programming guide on page 8. When lockout is enabled the keypad will shut down for around five minutes after twenty incorrect key presses. Page 6

7 Reset Instructions: The TOUCHLOCK will remember its settings in the event of a power cut. To return the unit to the factory default settings, a data reset must be done. For a list of the factory settings, see Initialising the unit. The procedure for doing this is outlined as follows: - Turn off the power to the unit. - Disconnect the green, grey and white wires and ensure that they are not connecting. - Hold down the 3 button on the keypad whilst readministering the power to the unit. When the power is applied, release button 3. - Four bleeps will indicate that the unit has successfully data reset - Wire the unit back to its original configuration. When the unit is data reset, the master code is set to and the unit is set back to the factory default settings. (see Initialising the unit) Page 7
