Installation Instructions i-net Access Control Units Part Code: IA-PCB IA-ACB IA-ACU IA-KIT This device is configured for DHCP. Identity Access software will find this device, go to setup and controller, then click the magnifying glass icon. Once found, the controller can be identified by its MAC address (e.g. 00:13:48:02:F6:94 which is also printed on the controller). For reliability, you MUST subsequently assign a Static IP Address using the i-net Configurator tool Iss 5

Introduction / Cable Specification 3 Introduction The i-net Intelligent Access Control Unit from Controlsoft provides a single board solution for one or two doors, which is expandable compatible with Controlsoft s Identity Access software. In addition, other i-net Access Control Units (ACU), CS- AC-3151 Reader Expansion Boards, CS-AC-1100 RS485 Readers and CS-AC-4311 I/O Expansion Boards can be added on the i-net s RS485 ports to expand its capabilities. through the use of additional i-net controllers up to 32 doors. The i-net is compatible with Controlsoft s Identity Access software for further expansion. The i-net controller is available in 4 versions: IA-PCB: i-net controller, PCB only IA-ACB: i-net controller in metal box IA-ACU: i-net controller in metal box with 12V 3A power supply IA-KIT: i-net controller in metal box with 12V 3A power supply with IA-R10P reader. For further information, please refer to the Controlsoft Product Reference Guide available to download from the products page of our website Cable Specification For RS485 connections between ACUs we recommend using Belden 8723 or equivalent. This is a 2 twisted pair cable, with each pair screened as well as an overall screen. Do not use twisted pair CAT5 or CAT6 cables for RS485 connections. Note: the RS485 + and connections must be run on either side of the same twisted pair (e.g. Green and White), with a separate core (e.g. Black) used for the reference. The total distance of an RS485 bus must not exceed 1000m. From the i-net ACU to Wiegand readers we recommend using Belden 9538 (or equivalent). This is an untwisted 8 core cable with an overall screen. Do not use twisted pair CAT5 or CAT6 cables to connect readers to the i-net ACU. The maximum length of the Wiegand reader cable is 80m but if this exceeds 25m we recommend using a local power supply for the reader. Between the i-net ACU and Locks/Exit Buttons we recommend a 22 AWG or thicker gauge alarm cable. We recommend cables with spare cores in case a core breaks. Do not use CAT5 or CAT6 cables to connect locks or exit buttons.
4 i-net Configuration Types Example Configurations Standalone i-net Controllers Each i-net Controller has its own IP connection/address, and controls 2 doors (or 1 door with in/out readers). Communication to the PC is over the TCP/IP network. NOTE: The i-net will continue to operate in stand alone mode if the PC is shut down or disconnected. Any events that subsequently occur are stored in the i-net and are automatically sent to the Identity Access software when the PC is back on-line. i-net to i-net The Master i-net Controller is connected to the PC via TCP/IP. Additional Slave i-net Controllers are daisy-chained on the RS485 Port B data line, up to a maximum of 15. These Slave i-nets have fully distributed intelligence, so they continue to operate even if the RS485 data line is broken. When the RS485 data line is restored, the Slave i-nets transfer events to the Master i-net which forwards them to the Identity Access Server software. The RS485 bus must be wired in a daisy-chain topology as shown above and not a STAR topology. NEVER wire additional i-net Controllers on a spur to create a third end. For maximum flexibility, the system can be wired as a combination of the above techniques, allowing system expansion for more than 32 doors
Fitting the ACU / Installing the Readers 5 Step 1: Fit the Controller to the Wall Using the base as a template, mark the wall and drill the required mounting and cable entry holes. Plug the mounting holes and fit the housing to the wall. If the controller housing contains a power supply, wire mains to the power supply using an unswitched fused spur. Step 2: Install the Readers The i-net ACU supports the standard Wiegand protocol. See Page 3 for cable requirements. The maximum length of the Wiegand reader cable is 80m but if this exceeds 25m we recommend using a local power supply for the reader. Always check the manufacturer s specifications in the reader manual, as recommendations will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Biometric readers When wiring a Morpho fingerprint reader to an i-net reader port, please note the following: Always power the Morpho reader from a power supply, do not power from the i-net reader port. The Morpho reader can be powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE). If using PoE, do not connect the Morpho reader to PoE AND 12Vdc at the same time. For more information, please refer to Appendix A
6 Connecting the RS485 / Inputs & Outputs Step 3: Connect the RS485 Bus The RS485 bus must be wired with a twisted pair screened cable. Please refer to the cable specifications on Page 3 The RS485 + and must be on the same pair (example Green & White). The REF terminal and the cable screen must be connected to the GND terminal (0V) at the Master ACU ONLY, as shown in the full wiring diagram (see centre pages). A correctly wired RS485 data line is shown in the diagram below. Step 4: Connect the Inputs The default function of each input is indicated on the i-net cover (for example, Input 0 = Request to Exit for Door 1). Using these defaults will make system configuration in the Identity Access software very much quicker. These defaults, however, are not mandatory as inputs are fully programmable so any door contact, alarm signal, REX etc. can be connected to any input. The function of each input is then programmed via the software (Refer to relevant manuals) Refer to the wiring diagram on the centre pages Step 5: Connect the Outputs The default function of each output is indicated on the i-net cover (for example, Output 0 = Lock for Door 1). Using these defaults will make system configuration in the Identity Access software very much quicker. All outputs are fully programmable so any maglock etc. can be connected to any output. The function of each output is then programmed via the software.
7 Step 6: Select the Switch Settings Bank of 2 ACU is NOT at the end of the bus ACU is at the end of the bus When terminating an i-net ACU, ensure that both DIP switches 1 & 2 are in the ON position on the bank of 2 dip switches. By default these are OFF. Bank of 4 On-board (Wiegand) Readers Enabled Master i-net connected to Slave i-nets on Port B On-board (Wiegand) Readers Disabled Master i-net connected to Slave i-nets on Port B On-board (Wiegand) Readers Enabled Master i-net connected to Slave Expanders on Port A On-board (Wiegand) Readers Disabled Master i-net connected to Slave Expanders on Port A Switch 3 MUST always be OFF. Switch 4 MUST always be OFF Each device on the RS485 bus must be assigned with an individual address. The RS485 bus supports up to 16 devices, so the i-net has a 16 position rotary switch marked 0 to F. The table below shows how the switch position relates to the address: Rotary Value A B C D E F 485 Address An i-net connected to the TCP/IP network is regarded as the Master, and must be given address 0. Slave i-nets (or ACUs) must be given addresses other than 0. Always keep a record of the address for each device to avoid duplication.
8 i-net Wiring Diagram RS485 Connect GND to cable screen and to REF on appropriate RS485 port Cable Distances Ethernet: 100 metres point to point RS485: Total length 1 kilometre Wiegand: 80 metres Important To prevent back EMF damaging the ACU, ALWAYS install a MOV or diode across the coil of the every lock
i-net Wiring Diagram 9 Note Connections for second door not shown
10 RJ-45 TCP/IP Cable Wiring Step 7: Connect the LAN The ACU must be connected with CAT5 or CAT6 cable utilising an RJ-45 connector (standard patch lead) into the TCP/IP network via a hub or switch. If you are connecting the PC directly then a crossover cable should be used. Step 8: Connect Power IA-PCB and IA-ACB Connect a power supply to the +12Vdc IN and GND terminals on the i-net controller as shown in the diagram on the centre pages. The power supply must provide a voltage greater than 11.0Vdc on full load, and less than 15.0Vdc on no load. IA-ACU The power supply is pre-wired to the +12Vdc IN and GND terminals of the controller. NOTE: To avoid communications problems, ensure that the GND terminal is connected to the RS485 REF terminal on the i-net Master ACU ONLY as shown in the wiring diagram (see centre pages)
Connect Power / Check LED Indications 11 Step 9: Check LED Indications In the top left corner of the i-net there are 3 LEDs (2 red and 1 green) to indicate power. These are all lit solidly during normal operation. 12V - ON if the overall power for the ACU is OK 5V - ON if power for RS485 and Wiegand is OK 3.3V - ON if power for the processor board is OK Each relay output (numbered 0-3) has its own corresponding green LED. When the relay activates, the LED is illuminated. Similarly, each input (numbered 0-4) has its own corresponding red LED. When the input is shorted, the LED is illuminated. The Ethernet (TCP/IP) port has a green LAN Activity LED, this should flash rapidly when the i-net is connected to the network. Group of 4 LEDs Top pair These indicate the RS485 B send and receive data (red LED flashes when data is sent, green flashes when data is received). Bottom pair These indicate the RS485 A send and receive data (red LED flashes when data is sent, green flashes when data is received).
12 Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions Why are my RS485 devices not polling? What DIP Switches do I need on? How do I reset the IP address of the ACU? When the door unlocks the ACU becomes unresponsive How do I reboot my i-net ACU? Ensure that the Master i-net controller is connected to Slave i-net controllers using RS485 Port B OR to I/O Expanders using RS485 Port A. The GND terminal MUST be connected to the RS485 REF terminal and the cable screen at the i-net Master ACU ONLY as shown in the wiring diagram (see centre pages). Ensure that the 4-way DIP switch is set correctly. Ensure that each device has a unique address on the bus, where address 0 is reserved for the Master i-net ACU. This depends on how the system has been expanded on the RS485 port. Please refer to Page 7. There is a reset button on the right hand side of the board, press and hold for 30 seconds. The i-net should reboot twice, and the IP address returns to its default address ( ). When the Lock changes state, it can generate back EMF, which can damage the ACU. Make sure that every lock has a suppression device (MOV) installed across the power at the lock There is a Power Jumper located just above the Power Input on the ACU Board. If this is removed the board will lose power in a safe manner. Replace the jumper to power the unit up again. Spares Pack The IA-ACU is supplied with a spares pack containing the following items: 4 x MOVs (see page 6 and centre pages) 1 x Battery Leads The IA-PCB and IA-ACB are supplied with a spares pack containing 4 x MOVs (see page 6 and centre pages)
