1 Murdock-Portal Band Parent Handbook for the 14/15 School Year *****PLEASE READ***** This handbook contains your child s CLASS SCHEDULE and THE TOP TEN THINGS BAND PARENTS NEED TO KNOW
2 Top Ten Things Band Parents Need to Know 1) What Your Child MUST Bring to Each Class Their Instrument and Their Music Book (and any sheet music they have received) Extra Reeds (Clarinets and Saxes only) Students will need bout reeds for the whole year. Buy #2 reeds. You can find them at most local music stores. Music stores are listed below. 2) Our Website Please bookmark our website now. There is a wealth of information here including, online instructional videos, answers to frequently asked questions, and copies of forms and permission slips given out throughout the year. 3) Music Stores If your child loses any of their supplies, replace them by going to your local music store. Starving Musician 3939 Stevens Creek Blvd. Santa Clara (408) Canon Music S. Blaney Ave. Cupertino, CA (408) West Valley Music 262 Castro St. Mountain View (650) Crossroads Music South De Anza Blvd. Cupertino, CA (408) ) Concert Dates and Times Mark your calendar now with the concert dates listed in this handbook. 5) Class Times Please read through your class schedule. There are a few special classes that involve only certain instruments or special times due to minimum days. Please pick up your child promptly after class is over. Give your child your cell phone number in case they need to call you. 6) Picking Up Your Child/Late Fees Students will be supervised until they are picked up. We ask that you pick them up directly after class. If, after 15 minutes, a child has not been picked up, S cool Spirit reserves the right to charge parents $1.00 per minute after this grace period. 7) Practice We suggest that each band student practices minutes a day, four or five times a week in order to see ongoing improvement. 8) Instrument Repairs If you suspect that your instrument isn t playing correctly and needs repair, you will need to arrange to have it repaired. If you rented it from a local music store, they should have repair capabilities and procedures. Call them to find out more about this process. Repairs usually take one week but can take longer. 9) Dropping the Class If you need to drop the class you must do it in writing ( is acceptable). Prorated refunds will be provided up until the third week of each semester. Please Keith Pennings (S cool Spirit, Director) at giantfankp@gmail.com. if you need to drop the class. 10) Questions/Concerns If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Keith Pennings at giantfankp@gmail.com. (Please Sign and Return to your Band Teacher) I have read and understand the above Top Ten Things Band Parents Need to Know. Signed Date Student s Name
