1 Mediasite Introductory Guide Starting the Summer 2016 session, a new lecture capture tool, Mediasite, will be used to record lectures. This software has new features that did not exist in the previous platform (Echo360), a different look and feel, and various choices which can be made concerning the playback or downloads. For minimum technical requirements to ensure quality content playback please consult with the following documentation for desktop platforms and mobile platforms. Here is an example of what the Mediasite recording looks like: For more details or any questions please contact the IT Service Center via phone (5 HELP from a campus phone) or help@colorado.edu Desire2Learn(D2L) Integration Access to the recorded course lectures is through Desire2Learn (D2L). See instructions below. Recordings are available the first day of classes until the last day of final exams for the semester. Main campus lectures are recorded live and made available to students to view through streaming and download after recording (with the exception of a few courses). We strive to have both streaming and downloadable content made available within four hours of the end of the class, however, the actual time may vary based on the number of recordings and OIT resources.

2 If you would like to keep the recorded course lectures, be sure to download the recorded lectures to your computer by the last day of final exams for the semester. A fee will be charged for access to the recorded lectures after the semester ends. To access the recorded class lecture content in D2L, please use the following steps: 1. Navigate to and enter your CU IdentiKey username and password in the Login section. If you don t have or know what your IdentiKey is, contact help@colorado.edu. 2. In D2L under the My Courses section, click the link for the course you want to watch lecture capture videos in.

3 3. Once you have navigated to your course, click on the Mediasite Lecture Access link near the top left in the navigation bar. 4. A new window will open with your course recording catalog. Click on the title of a recording to play it back.

4 Basic Mediasite Player Navigation The following guide will introduce you to the features found in the lecture capture video player from Mediasite. Note: besides pause/play and volume adjustment these features are unavailable with composite video (vodcast) downloads. 1. Pause and Play 2. Volume Adjustment 3. Primary Video Switch 4. Variable Speed 5. Search 6. Pop out 7. Slide View & Zoom 8. Slide Navigation Pause and Play Press this button in the bottom left to pause or play.

5 Volume Adjustment Use the slider in the bottom middle to adjust the volume of the presentation. Primary Video Switch In the top right of each video display, click this button to switch display preferences (make your power point slides larger and the video smaller, or vice versa see example below).

6 Variable Speed

7 Allows users to speed up or slow down playback Search Allows users to search for specific text within slides, allowing for easy navigation.

8 Pop out Provides access to additional functionality such as slide view and slide zoom.

9 Slide View & Zoom Gives viewers the ability to zoom in or out on slide content

10 Slide Navigation Provides thumbnail gallery view of slides for easy navigation How to Download and Play Mediasite Lecture Recordings (P2G and Vodcast) 1. Login to D2L and navigate to the applicable course catalog page which will list all lecture recordings.

11 2. To download a lecture recording click the Download link. 3. Once the dropdown appears, click on the Publish To Go option for a P2G file (allows for dynamic playback options outlined above in player navigation section), Video (Composite Video) for an MP4 vodcast file (combined videos in one file with no dynamic playback options) for streaming, or Audio (Podcast) for an MP3 audio only file of the lecture content. 4. For MP4 vodcast downloads, locate the.mp4 and launch using a video player application on your device.

12 5. For P2G downloads : a. If the download has not been created yet, you will need to select Submit in order to create the download. If the download link appears in the popup window, skip to step b. b. The popup will change to indicate the download is being created. You may wait for it to complete here or close the window to come back later. c. When the download is done being created the popup window will show a download link. Click the Download link to download your lecture.

13 d. O n your device navigate to where files are downloaded and find the file ending with.p2g.zip.unzip the contents using an unzip utility on your device. On Windows, right click the zip file, select Extract All, then click Extract button on the popup window. On Mac, double click the zip file. e. On your device navigate to the newly unzipped folder. Open the file Default.html with your browser to view the recording.

14 f. In your browser you will now see the recording and be able to control the playback via the on page controls. 6. For Podcast downloads, locate the.mp3 and launch using a audio player application on your device.
