1 Polycom RSS 4000, Version Polycom is pleased to announce the release of software version for the Polycom RSS 4000 system. This document provides information about this release. For more information about using the features described in this document, refer to the product documentation available at Software Version History Version Release Date Features 2012, July Feature enhancement. What s New in Version The Polycom RSS 4000 system version includes the following new features. New HTML Viewer Portal You can now view live streamed and on-demand video on a new system portal. This new user portal can be accessed from most PCs, Macs, smartphones, and tablets. Authorized users can schedule and create meeting recordings and live meeting streams from this new Viewer portal. Streaming Live Meetings and On-Demand Meeting Archives Using External Servers You can now stream live meetings (MCU calls) or point to point calls (endpoint to RSS) in single bit-rate MP4 format to leading 3rd party media servers, such as Wowza, QuickTime Streaming Server, and IIS-7 Media Service (smoothly streaming only). You can also stream on demand meeting archives in several bit-rates in MP4 format to leading media servers such as Wowza, and QuickTime Streaming Server. Users can watch these MP4 streams and on demand meeting archives hosted on external media servers from the Admin UI, or from the new Viewer portal. July /A

2 Streaming Meetings Live in MP4 Format You can stream live meetings (MCU calls) or point to point calls (endpoint to RSS) in live, HTTP adaptive bit-rate streams (also known as HLS) MP4 format. These live streams are compatible with most PCs, Macs, smartphones, and tablets. Creating New Media Files On-Demand from Existing Archives Authorized users can create new media outputs on the fly from existing archives. When creating new outputs, users can change output options such as bit-rate, resolution, and layout. The system also provides pre-configured settings for popular mobile devices, for example, ipad and iphone. SNMP v3 Support The Polycom RSS 4000 version now supports SNMP v3 (Simple Network Management Protocol version 3) queries and traps with confidentiality, authentication, and integrity functions conforming to the Polycom common MIB which is also interoperable with Polycom CMA, DMA, and RMX systems Administrators can be notified of system alarms by using SNMP traps. Others The multicast IP pool is now expanded to , with the port range extended to Ability to send disk low warnings to the specified address. You can also check the disk space through the Telnet console. Ability to batch download all media files available for an archive. Customer-specific enhancements, such as configurable MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) size, and notifications. Meeting template enhancement, allowing users to specify whether to generate WMV video file, to restrict the recording to CIF/SIF resolution, to generate Polycom RealPresence Media Editor presentation files, or to back up all me by using the enhanced meeting template. Ability to transfer recordings to one or several FTP servers automatically upon the completion of transcoding. Ability to allow users to stop ongoing and queuing transcoding tasks. Ability to reserve meeting recordings from the new system portal. By this way, administrators can arrange recordings in advance. 3 Ability to allow administrators to skip or cancel hard disk check during system boot using Telnet commands. Hard disk check can also be configured to start in case of system error. Known Issues The following table lists the known issues for the version release. If a workaround is available, it is noted in the table. Category Issue ID Descriptions Workaround Found in Release Calling PCTCRSS-2331 The Polycom RSS 4000 system doesn t support FECC (Far End Camera Control) in SIP calls. The only exception is when the far end is a Polycom HDX system with the version Release _J Use DTMF instead Dynamic archiving PCTCRSS-2168 When you re-transcode a content-included recording into an MP4 file with a resolution lower than or equal to 640 x 480, the generated MP4 file has a Single window video/content switch layout. External media server PCTCRSS-2202 The IIS-7 Media Server cannot power down and restart automatically for every recording. You have to restart it each time manually. External media server PCTCRSS-2140 You cannot view VoD streams on demand using the IIS-7 Media Server from the Viewer portal. IIS-7 Media Server needs an encoder to transfer MP4 or WMV files to smooth streaming first. External media server PCTCRSS-2139 For Polycom RSS 4000 system version 7.0 or earlier, files backed up to an FTP server are always saved to the system s root directory, even though you have specified the FTP Default Path. 4 Category Issue ID Descriptions Workaround Found in Release External media server PCTCRSS-2326 While live streaming to a QuickTime Server that requires authentication, if the QuickTime server experiences network problems, the Polycom RSS 4000 system is disconnected from the QuickTime server accordingly. It cannot reconnect to the QuickTime Server even after the latter resumes its network connection. Try one of the followings: Stop and then restart the recording Hang up and restart the recording External media server PCTCRSS-2328 If you don t set a password to access a Wowza server that requires authentication, you cannot live stream meetings to it. Set a non-blank password External media server PCTCRSS-1847 After you end a live streaming using the QuickTime Streaming Server, you must wait a minimum of 30 seconds before you can proceed with the next live streaming. Interoperability PCTCRSS-2142 When you select the option Generate a Polycom RealPresence Media Editor presentation file in a meeting template, the people video contained in the generated presentation file is of WMV format only. Interoperability PCTCRSS-2286 After you record a content-sharing call at 1024 kbps or higher between a Polycom HDX system and a Polycom PVX system, you cannot find the recording from the View All Archives in the Polycom RSS 4000 system s TV UI. Interoperability PCTCRSS-2284 If a Polycom RMX system with an MPM+ card uses a recording link to live stream a call at 128 kbps with a Polycom HDX system, the Receive Video Frame Rate of the recording shown on the RSS system s TV UI goes merely around 20 kbps. Interoperability PCTCRSS-2281 If the Polycom RMX 1000 system uses a recording link to live stream a call with a Polycom HDX system, you cannot play the generated MP4 file from the RSS system s Admin UI. The preconditions is that the conference's Video Definition is set as Up to H263 4CIF 15FPS and the VRR has the option Generate MP4 Video File selected. 4 Polycom, Inc.

Interoperability PCTCRSS-2278 If a Polycom RMX system uses a recording link to live stream in WMV format a SIP VSW conference with a Polycom HDX system, the RSS 4000 system always records at the secondary rate when the conference line rate is set as 128 kbps, 256 kbps, or 384 kbps. Interoperability PCTCRSS-2276 If you live stream in MP4 format a multipoint meeting by dialing out to a Polycom RealPresence Mobile application and a Polycom Telepresence m100 application using the same multipoint VRR, the incoming video freezes on the Polycom RealPresence Mobile application when the received video protocol is VGA. Interoperability PCTCRSS-2280 During an H.323 call between the Polycom RSS 4000 and the SONY PCS-XG80 system (version ), if the SONY PCS-XG80 starts then stops sending content, the call connection is automatically terminated after the RSS 4000 stops receiving content and switches to receive people video for around 90 seconds. Interoperability PCTCRSS-2283 When a Polycom RMX system uses a recording link (with the Video Definition set as Up to H263 4CIF 15FPS) to live stream in WMV format a call with a Polycom HDX system, if you play back the recording from the RSS 4000 system s TV UI, the playback starts with a blue screen for a short while. Interoperability PCTCRSS-2285 Even if the RadVision Scopia XT1000 system sends DualVideo (H.239-based People and Content) to the Polycom RSS 4000 system in an H.323 call, the Polycom RSS 4000 system continues showing the people video only. Interoperability PCTCRSS-2287 During a SIP call with a live streaming in WMV between the RadVision Scopia XT1000 system and the Polycom RSS 4000 system, when the RadVision Scopia XT1000 system sends DualVideo (H.239 based People+Content) to the Polycom RSS 4000 system, the Polycom RSS 4000 system shows the content only. It doesn't support IPv6 streaming and IPv6 SIP recording. None. This is the designed behavior Live streaming PCTCRSS-2282 During a 1920 kbps H.323 call between the Polycom RSS 4000 and the SONY PCS-XG80 system (Version ), if the PCS-XG80 starts and then stops sending content, the Polycom RSS 4000 system stops receiving the content accordingly but cannot switch to the people video. A black screen appears instead. Live streaming PCTCRSS-2288 When the Polycom RSS 4000 system dials into a conference hosted on a Codian MCU 4505 system (version 4.3, build 1.68) at a call rate between 2048 and 4096 Kbps in SIP, the connected rate shown on the Codian's call statistics is always 2000 kbps instead. Live streaming PCTCRSS-2025 When an Aethra X7 system initiates a live streaming by placing an H.323 call to the Polycom RSS 4000 system in the DualVideo mode, the recording and live streaming cannot be rendered properly in the RSS 4000 system s Viewer portal. None. The Polycom RSS 4000 system is not interoperable with Aethra X7 when the latter works in the DualVideo mode Live streaming PCTCRSS-1968 When you start a live streaming using a VRR that enables Live streaming and VoD, and if you configure Wowza as its external server, after the live streaming starts, if you view it on either a PC, Mac, or ipad, you see black screen for around 25 seconds before you can view the live streaming. Live streaming PCTCRSS-1962 You cannot live stream in MP4 format a meeting between two endpoints using a VRR that has selected the option Enable Multipoint VRR. Live streaming PCTCRSS-1780 After you start a live streaming by dialing into an RMX that has configured a recording link for live streaming, if you then click the live streaming URL from the notification , you see around 20 seconds delay first. Live streaming PCTCRSS-2143 You cannot live stream MP4 format multicasts. 6 Polycom, Inc.

Live streaming PCTCRSS-2100 When you live stream a conference in MP4 format, the live streaming rendered from the Polycom RSS 4000 system's Admin UI and the Viewer portal is choppy in some cases. Live streaming PCTCRSS-2173 If you live stream an audio-only meeting using a VRR that selects the option Reservation VRR, you cannot view the live steam from the URL included in the notification. LPR PCTCRSS-1351 If you configure the Polycom RSS 4000 system in connection with a Polycom RMX 2000 system using a recording link that uses a LPR-enabled VRR, during a multipoint call hosted by the RMX system, you find that the LPR are not activated on the Tx side of the recorder. MCU Recording PCTCRSS-2275 If a Polycom RMX system uses a recording link to live stream in WMV format a SIP meeting with a Polycom HDX system, the meeting is always live streamed at the secondary rate when H.264 High Profile is enabled in the VRR. MCU Recording PCTCRSS-2277 If a Polycom RMX system uses a recording link to live stream in MP4 format a VSW conference with a Polycom HDX system, you don t hear the audio in the live streams that are recorded at 128 kbps, 256 kbps, or 384 kbps. Network Separation PCTCRSS-2153 When you enable Network Separation, you can only set the management network s IP address as the default gateway address. Others PCTCRSS-2309 If wrong data are recorded, the Polycom RSS 4000 system s transcoder may crash during a system load testing. Others PCTCRSS-2264 Sometimes, if your browser is Windows Internet Explorer 9, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome, the browser hangs when you try to view MP4-format archives from the Polycom RSS 4000 system s Viewer portal. Others PCTCRSS-1939 The Polycom RSS 4000 system generates ZIP files using the format tar. You may need a WinRAR or 7-Zip application to decompress the file. None. P2P PCTCRSS-2260 If AES encryption is enabled, after you dial out to record using a PIN code-enabled VRR, the recording stops if you then dial another compatible endpoint using the same VRR. Playback PCTCRSS-2302 After you download all media files (from Media > Archives and select Download > All), you cannot open the downloaded file if you change its default suffix.tar. Playback PCTCRSS-1788 If you enabled Enable PIN Code for Playback in your VRR, you can still download archives recorded using this VRR without entering the PIN code. None. This is the designed behavior Playback PCTCRSS-1989 You cannot play back MP4 format archives on a Samsung Galaxy Tab running over Android 3.2. Playback PCTCRSS-1508 You may not be able to play back archive files larger than 6 G from the Viewer portal. Playback PCTCRSS-2240 When you play an MP4 archive on a PC using a Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome browser, or on a MAC using the Mozilla Firefox, the video playback gets stuck after you fast forward, or fast rewind the video several times. Playback PCTCRSS-2079 If you enabled the option Enable Network Separation in System Config > IP Settings, you cannot view live streaming, or VoD (Video on Demand) from configured external media servers. 8 Polycom, Inc.

Playback PCTCRSS-2327 You cannot play back archives shorter than 12 seconds using the SilverLight plug-in from the Polycom RSS 4000 system's Viewer portal. Playback PCTCRSS-1938 You cannot play back archives shorter than two seconds using the QuickTime Player plug-in from the Polycom RSS 4000 system s Viewer portal. Pre-link PCTCRSS-2272 After you start a live streaming using a reservation VRR and call this VRR from a compatible endpoint, if you then disconnect and reconnect the endpoint repetitively, the live streaming shown on the Viewer portal hangs. Pre-link PCTCRSS-2265 During a recording using a reservation VRR, if the Polycom RSS 4000 system reboots, after the reboot, the recording archive status shows Ready. However, the media file size is zero. Presentation PCTCRSS-2310 In a recording that enables the option Generate a Polycom RealPresence Media Editor presentation file, whenever content-sharing starts, the system switches to taking snapshots on the content. The system stops or resumes taking snapshots on the content alongside with the stopping or resuming of the content-sharing. However, it doesn t resume taking the People video snapshots ever since the content-sharing starts. Presentation PCTCRSS-2307 In a recording that enables the option Generate a Polycom RealPresence Media Editor presentation file, the generated ZIP file is always of the layout Single Window No Content, regardless of the actual setting in the recording template. RSS Delivery Proxy PCTCRSS-2262 If you live stream a meeting to the QuickTime server and view the steaming from the Polycom RSS 4000 system s Viewer portal using a Mac computer, you see green screen for around eight seconds first. S_PKI PCTCRSS-2271 If you select the option System Config > Client Certificate > Enable web client certificate validation, you cannot log in to the system after the system s self-signed certificate expires. Live stream the meeting in MP4 format instead Disable the option Enable web client certificate validation before the self-signed certificate expires Upgrade PCTCRSS-2258 When you upgrade the Polycom RSS 4000 system from the version 6.0 to 7.0, then from 7.0 to, the FTP server status shown on the Dashboard is Unknown error. User Interface PCTCRSS-2085 If you use an iphone to access the system s Viewer portal, sometimes, the file names of some archives are of smaller font size. User Interface PCTCRSS-2330 If you upload a RAW file using the Telnet commands to the media folder of the Polycom RSS 4000 system, after the system restart and the file transcoding completion, the file duration shown on the Viewer portal is incorrect. 10 Polycom, Inc.

The reason is that the http protocol, instead of https, is used by the system reboot module. During the system reboot, you can access the Admin UI using IP> to bring out the booting page and cancel the file system check User Interface PCTCRSS-2012 If you live stream (in WMV format, with LPR and H.264-HP disabled) a SIP call between the RSS 4000 system and a SONY PCS-XG80, the call rate and the connection rate shown on the SONY PCS-XG80 system are not identical. User Interface PCTCRSS-2213 If you view a streamed meeting (live or on demand) on a MAC OS x Server (version is ) using a Quicktime plug-in (version 7.6.6), you cannot view the live stream in full screen. VRR PCTCRSS-2214 You cannot modify a normal VRR to change it into a predetermined VRR. Web UI PCTCRSS-2263 If you view a live streaming or archive from the system s Viewer portal and are required to enter the PIN code, you cannot press the Enter key on your computer keyboard to end the PIN code input. Click OK or press the Enter key for three times Web UI PCTCRSS-2268 When you play a WMV format archive on the Polycom RSS 4000 Viewer portal, the video stops playing after you fast forward, or fast rewind it. Web UI PCTCRSS-2273 When you view WMV format archives from the Polycom RSS 4000 system's Viewer portal, If You select Zoom > 200%, the player window does not show the new setting. Web UI PCTCRSS-2274 When you view WMV format archives from the Polycom RSS 4000 system s Viewer portal using the Windows Internet Explorer 9 version as your browser, you cannot double-click to view the archive in full screen. 12 Interoperability Polycom RSS 4000 systems are tested extensively with a wide range of products. The following list is not a complete inventory of compatible equipment; it simply indicates the products that have been tested for compatibility with the release. Video conferencing systems use a variety of algorithms to compress audio and video. In a call between two systems, each end transmits audio and video using algorithms supported by the other end. In some cases, a system may transmit a different algorithm than it receives. This process occurs because each system independently selects the optimum algorithms for a particular call, and different products may make different selections. This process should not affect the quality of the call. To configure the Cisco VCS to work with the Polycom RSS 4000 system: 1 Log in to the Cisco VCS as an administrator. Go to VCS Configuration > New zone. 2 Configure the zone for your RSS system. The system supports up to 15 multipoint recording sessions simultaneously. For a multipoint recording with live streaming, the resources used by the system vary according to the video resolution, call rate, and the video layout of the recording. Different models of the Polycom RSS 4000 have different resource capacity. The maximum number of live streaming resources is determined by several factors, including the RSS model, speeds, resolutions, and stream output types. The following table lists the system s maximum capacity for live streaming.
