2 Description The DB2 OLAP Server for AS/400, program comes with a set of servers and optional application tools that help you provide a flexible, comprehensive OLAP solution. DB2 OLAP Server is an enterprise-scale, online analytical processing system for a wide-range of multidimensional reporting, analysis, modeling, and planning applications. DB2 OLAP Server uses the Hyperion Essbase engine for: Data access Navigation Application program interfaces (APIs) Application design and management Application partitioning Data calculation You can choose one of two storage systems: 1. Standard relational database management system (RDBMS) using a star schema data structure 2. Essbase integrated multidimensional data store With a relational data store, DB2 OLAP Server uses DB2, the industry-leading relational database, stores fact and dimension tables, which comprise the star schema, to meet your business requirement. Parallel relational technology can be exploited to deliver improved access performance. The DB2 OLAP Server can be managed by familiar RDBMS system management, backup, and recovery tools allowing businesses to leverage their existing skill and technology investment. DB2 OLAP Server also offers the advantage of providing access to data in the star schema using standard SQL. Data in the DB2 OLAP Server can be leveraged by Essbase-ready applications and the vast variety of generic SQL access tools. SQL tools can easily join the star schema with existing relational tables in the warehouse for additional reporting and analysis. With the Essbase integrated data store, DB2 OLAP Server provides a high-performance multidimensional data store that is simple to implement. Regardless of the type of data store used, DB2 OLAP Server can be used with 50-plus Essbase-ready tools provided by independent software vendors (ISVs). Application partitions can be stored across multiple OLAP Servers with different storage managers and be linked together. DB2 OLAP Server can be used for management, reporting, analysis, modeling, planning, and data warehousing applications. The Spreadsheet Add-in is desktop software that merges seamlessly with Microsoft Excel or Lotus 1-2-3, turning your familiar spreadsheet into a tightly integrated OLAP client for DB2 OLAP Server. The Builder Add-On program integrates with the Application Manager and lets you easily build, modify, and maintain analytical models, calculations, data access security, data loading rules, dimension building, and system management functions. DB2 OLAP Server operates on the OS/400 operating systems over all leading networks, and can create and manage star schemas automatically in DB2 databases. DB2 OLAP Server Products DB2 OLAP Server for AS/400, provides rich functionality and a choice of multidimensional file or relational database storage. DB2 OLAP Server for AS/400 Developer s Edition, is licensed for development only. Add-On s Currency Conversion converts financial data using any currency exchange rate scenario. The Currency Conversion module lets you model the impact of exchange rates and perform ad hoc conversions directly from a spreadsheet or custom application. API lets you use standard tools to create custom DB2 OLAP Server applications that take advantage of the powerful data storage, retrieval, and analytical capabilities of DB2 OLAP Server. The API supports Visual Basic, C, C++, and other application development environments, and works with Windows 95/98, Windows NT, and UNIX. Extended Spreadsheet Toolkit includes more than 20 macros and Visual Basic (VB) functions, letting you build custom Lotus or Microsoft Excel applications that tightly integrate with DB2 OLAP Server. DB2 OLAP Server for AS/400 itioning Option provides a collection of powerful features that makes it easy to design and administer multidimensional databases (cubes or star schemas) that span OLAP applications or servers. Functions can: Integrate multiple physical cubes or stars into a single logical cube Centrally administer and share metadata Allow connection of cubes and stars with varying dimensionality Allow partition replication between centralized and distributed cubes and stars

3 DB2 OLAP Server for AS/400 Builder Builder assists in moving enterprise data to the AS/400 by transforming and simplifying online transaction data into meaningful information. Easily builds data warehouse or data marts using full SQL support. Selects specific data from one or more tables in your OLTP database in DB2/400 and moves them to existing tables or new tables created on-the-fly by Builder. Cleanses data by calling user programs or by entering any SQL statement either before or after the distribution. Implements business rules, such as profit margin formulas or inventory reorder thresholds, using Builder s ability to create result columns and assign them meaningful names and descriptions. Manages metadata by pre-joining multiple tables, renaming files and fields when transforming the data, and maintaining a metadata repository for information about how the warehouse was created. Presets the timing of data transformations, or can be called from applications, which may determine the data transformation schedules. Can distribute data from DB2 Distributed Relational Database Access (DRDA ) data sources other than the AS/400, including DB2 Universal Database running on OS/390, AIX, and Windows NT. Year 2000 This product is Year 2000 ready. The service end date for this Year-2000-ready product is December 15, Euro Currency This program is not impacted by euro currency. Product Positioning The DB2 OLAP Server for AS/400, program is complementary to a number of IBM and non-ibm products, including: Essbase-Ready ISV Products Many ISV desktop tools and applications use the Hyperion Essbase API to access multidimensional data. As the same API is transparently supported by DB2 OLAP Server, these ISV tools can now seamlessly expand their products to the relational marketplace. IBM Warehouse Manager for AS/400 IBM Warehouse Manager for AS/400 provides an integrated, managed environment to transform, create, and maintain data marts and data warehouses. It can automate the loading, updating, and recalculating of the star schema tables and multidimensional cubes in the DB2 OLAP Server from a variety of data sources. It can also publish descriptions of the DB2 OLAP multidimensional models to end users. ShowCase Analyzer or IBM DB2 OLAP Server Analyzer These are equivalent OLAP-centric presentation, analysis, and reporting tool suites that provide collaborative analytics, enterprise-wide deployment, and ease of use. They leverage the performance, scalability, and analytical power of DB2 OLAP Server, giving users point-and-click access to advanced features. They are enterprise-class, with a scalable three-tier architecture and a suite of four interoperable Windows and 100% Pure Java clients that allow organizations to deliver information to large user communities at a low total cost of ownership. Showcase Analyzer server runs natively on the AS/400 whereas the IBM DB2 OLAP Server Analyzer (announced by Software Announcement , dated November 28, 2000) runs on Windows NT.
