2 SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION 1.1 About This Manual This manual is intended for the instruction and guidance of personnel charged with the handling, operation and maintenance of Burgess Room Service Trolleys The procedures given in this must be read and understood by all relevant personnel Some procedures given should only be carried out by relevant specialists. This will be flagged where appropriate All relevant diagrams are to be found within this manual Burgess Furniture cannot be held liable for any loss, damage or injury resulting from failure to follow the procedures given. 1.2 Health & Safety (UK) It is the Employers duty under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure all operational staff are aware of manual handling recommendations under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (SI 1992 No. 2793) Assessment should address itself to (a) task, (b) load, (c) working environment, and (d) individual capability Please refer to relevant brochure for individual weights or contact Burgess Furniture Ltd. 3 SECTION 2 - OPERATION To be used with the illustrated instructions fitted to each RST. 2.1 Operation With the RST in position and the castor brakes engaged: From the stored position, swing the top downwards until the automatic latch is heard to engage. This locks the top down in the in-use position Raise one of the flaps to the horizontal Ensuring that the flap is pushed in to meet the centre section of the top (1), grasp the flap support and pull smoothly to extend the support (2). This locks the flap in place. Note: There is a feature inside the flap mechanism which will not allow the flap support to be extended unless the flap is fully pushed in. Ensure that the support is fully extended and locates on the plastic spacer discs on the underside of the flap. Repeat steps for the opposite side. The RST is now ready for use. To fold the flaps upwards when the RST is to be removed from the clients room Hold the flap with one hand and push the flap support fully in with the other hand (1) to unlock the flap, then pull the flap fully outwards (2) Raise the flap to the vertical position then push down to lock the flap in this position. Repeat steps 4-5 for the opposite side. Release the castor brakes and the RST is ready to be removed from the clients room To flip the top upwards for storage, pull the green disc fitted to one side, behind the flap support, and rotate the top upwards. Storage space can be minimised if the flaps are returned to the down position. Ref. RST O&M Manual Page 3/6

4 SECTION 3 - MAINTENANCE 3.2 General All Burgess products are designed to give a long, trouble free working life with the minimum of maintenance and as such there are no user- serviceable parts. However, there is still a requirement for the operator to carrying out simple periodic inspection and maintenance as detailed below Light damage as outlined below may be repaired by (or by agents of) the operator. More severe damage should be referred to Burgess Furniture Ltd Intended Use: The RST is intended for en suite service of food and beverages. 3.3 Maintenance Schedule The following maintenance procedures should be carried out at least every 3 months under normal operating conditions, or every 1 month under severe contract conditions, or as necessary in the case of food hygiene requirements. 3.4 Cleaning The trolley should be cleaned using a damp cloth and, where necessary, a mild, sanitizing cleaning agent. Abrasive scourers should not be used High Pressure Laminate tops should be cleaned using a damp cloth and a mild sanitizing detergent, then dried with a soft lint-free cloth. Do not use any form of furniture polish on laminate table tops as this will result in smearing. DO NOT use bleach or any other caustic / solvent based cleaner as permanent damage to the top will result. 3.5 Inspection Inspections must be carried out by a competent person. All defective tables must be immediately removed from service. Repairs must only be carried out by competent personnel. Referring to the Operation label on the trolley: Check the four castors are secure Operate the top folding mechanism and check that the top locks down securely Continued >> Ref. 5 3.5.3 Check that the bolts on the base & top pivots are secure Check that all black pins are present on the sliding parts Check that the nuts and bolts on the flap hinges are secure and that the flaps are free to move Check that the rubber strips on the grilles are present Check all other nuts, bolts and screws are present and secure Flock coated tops: Inspect the aluminium edging for damage such as gouges and nicks which could be transferred to smooth flooring and table cloths. Any such damage to the edging can be carefully removed using a fine file or emery cloth High Pressure Laminate (HPL) tops: Scratches to the laminate can be improved using a colour matched filler, but it will be impossible to match the grain pattern. HPL tops are edged with a high Ref. RST O&M Manual Page 5/6

6 impact plastic which is very resistant to damage. Any damage that does occur will require the edging to be replaced. Laminate repairs: These are specialist tasks and should only be performed by an experienced carpenter or woodworker. If the top is more severely damaged it will be unlikely that a satisfactory repair can be effected and the top should be replaced More severe damage should be referred to Burgess Furniture Ltd. DEFECTIVE TROLLEYS MUST BE REMOVED FROM SERVICE IMMEDIATELY. 3.6 Lubrication The Room Service Trolley should not need any specific lubrication, however, if operation of the sliding or folding mechanisms becomes stiff or noisy, careful application of a food safe lubricant spray can improve this. Be sure to clean off any over spray or residue. Ref. RST O&M Manual Page 6/6
