4 efore you begin Welcome The system comes factory pre-loaded with EMC Celerra Network Server software (DRT) and CLRiiON storage array software (FLRE ). Complete the site preparation by verifying the following activities before instal lation: Software upgrade If you bought a software maintenance contract, you are entitled to a software upgrade that is performed only after the installation, Celerra Startup ssistant (CS), and registration have successfully completed. Site preparation Network connections Power requirements Rack space requirements 4

5 efore you begin (continued) Default IP addresses The system components communicate with each other using a private IP network. y default, this network uses the IP addresses listed in the Internal system addresses. If your existing IP network uses addresses on these subnets, you are required to change the private network addresses of your Celerra Network Server to different subnets before the installation. 7 NS-960 overview steps Installation: 1. Verify that the site is properly prepared for the Celerra NS The NS-960 arrives from the factory fully cabled in EMC cabinets and is installed by qualifi ed technicians. Use this document to verify that all cables and components are seated securely. Note: Verify the cabling before you power up your system. 3. Use the Celerra Startup ssistant (CS) to confi gure your system. The latest version of the CS can be downloaded from the Celerra Tools area on Powerlink. The CS is also on the Celerra pplications & Tools Compact Disk (CD). The CS will help you create CIFS shares, NFS exports, and iscsi LUNs, and to register the Celerra system. 4. Register your system with your EMC service provider. If you do not register your system now a request for support from customer service will be delayed. You can also register your Celerra NS-960 by completing the Celerra Registration Wizard, available for download on Powerlink. Implementation: 5. fter you have registered your Celerra NS-960 system, you must confi gure the system for production. You can use the Provisioning Wizard in the CS, one of the several pre-packaged implementation confi gurations based on common usages, or your own implementation using Unisphere to confi gure your system. t the end of each one of these confi gurations, your system will be ready for production. Note: If your Celerra NS-960 system has the Fibre Channel-enabled option, use Unisphere to provision storage for use by other Hosts. 7

8 NS-960 components The Celerra NS-960 system comprises: 1. One storage array consisting of: One to sixty-four disk-array enclosures (s). One storage processor enclosure containing two storage processors (SPs), SP and SP. Two standby power supplies (SPSs), SPS and SPS. 2. One or two Control Stations (CSs), CS 0 and CS One to four blade enclosures. The fi rst blade enclosure contains two blades. dditional blades can be added. For MPFS over Fibre Channel (FC), connect the storage processor (SP) to an FC switch, and then to the clients; see page 26. To connect to MPFS clients over iscsi through a switch, see page 27. For MPFS connections over FC, you can connect MPFS clients directly. Connect the corresponding FC ports on the I/O modules of the SP. For example, from slot 3 in SP port 0, and SP port 0 the red cables connect to the client. From slot 3 in SP and SP connect the remaining cables, port 1 purple, port 2 orange, and port 3 blue, to the clients as shown in the illustration. The following illustration shows the MPFS connection to one FC I/O module. You can connect to additional clients from other modules. Clients Slot 3 SP SP CNS

26 NS-960 Multi-Path File System The MPFS over Fibre Channel (FC) configuration shown involves connecting the SP to an FC switch, and then to the clients. From the switch, connect the cables to the clients. You can also connect to the switch from other I/O modules. Clients Switch Slot 3 SP SP CNS

27 NS-960 Multi-Path File System If you have iscsi ports available for host attachment, you have the option of confi guring MPFS over iscsi on your Celerra. The iscsi confi guration supports connecting to MPFS clients through a switch. To connect to MPFS clients through a switch, connect the clients to the switch, and then connect the iscsi ports on the I/O modules in slots 2, 3, 4, 5, 2, 3, 4, and 5. 28 NS-960 power-up procedure Power-up To power up the NS-960: 1. Verify that power is connected to the rack. 2. Turn ON standby power supplies and. 3. Turn on the cabinet circuit breakers. The blade enclosures and Control Stations power on automatically when the circuit breakers in the racks are turned ON. 4. Ensure that the power LED on all of the blades is green and the power LED on any Control Station is green. See pages 29 and 30 for LED information. 5. Make sure the fault LED on at least one blade is OFF. This signifi es that the blade is able to boot from the storage processor successfully. If the blade fault LEDs are fl ashing amber, the blades are trying to boot and waiting for the storage processor to come online. Note: The fault LEDs on all the blades turn off when the power-up process is complete. 28

31 CS installation worksheet Complete the worksheet and use this information to install using the Celerra Startup ssistant (CS). Download the latest version of the CS from the Celerra Tools section of Powerlink. Getting Started with the Celerra Startup ssistant can be downloaded from Powerlink and provides more information on the CS pre-confi guration and provisioning processes. Note: If you want to confi gure the IPv6 addresses for the Control Station (Control Station address, DNS, or NTP) or for the Data Movers (DNS or NTP), use the CS for the initial installation and then refer to the Confi guring and Managing Celerra Networking technical module and Celerra Network Server Command Reference Manual to complete the IPv6 additions. The CS pre-populates values based on auto-discovery from your Windows client. Shaded fi elds below are values that will be auto-discovered based on your system and network environment; if auto-discovery fails, you need to provide the information manually. 1. Record the appropriate Control Station public LN settings. Field Value Primary hostname Primary IP address (For second Control Station only) Secondary hostname (For second Control Station only) Secondary IP address Netmask Gateway DNS domain Primary DNS server Secondary DNS server NTP server Time Zone 2. The passwords for the root user/system back-end administrator and NS administrator are default factory values and should be changed as soon as possible for security reasons. The passwords can be changed during the CS installation process or later, from within Unisphere. root_password (default value = nasadmin) NS dministrator (default value = nasadmin) 31

32 CS installation worksheet 3. The appropriate blade public LN settings are auto-discovered. DNS domain Primary DNS server Secondary DNS server NTP server Note: These settings apply to all primary blades. 4. Record the storage processor public LN IP addresses. Note: Public IP addresses for your storage processors are required for use with the Navisphere Service Taskbar for routine array maintenance and upgrades. In addition, for Celerra systems where Navisphere licenses are in place, Navisphere can be used to manage storage for external host connectivity, and the Celerra. However, we recommend users manage Celerra storage using the Provisioning wizard capability within the CS or within Unisphere. The IP addresses must be on the same subnet as the Control Station. SP IP address SP IP address 5. If applicable, confi gure service provider/customer notifi cation information. Note: The dial-in modem number is the phone number for the line that connects to the modem. This is the local number that is used by the service provider to dial into your system. Note: will not work without a DNS server. Step 5: Configure for Production Now that the CS pre-confi guration is complete, you must confi gure the system for production. You can use the Provisioning Wizard in the CS, one of several pre-packaged implementation confi gurations based on common usages, or your own implementation using Unisphere to confi gure your system. t the end of each of these confi gurations your system will be ready for production. Common implementations include: Create CIFS shares Create iscsi LUNs Create NFS exports Set up MPFS dd additional hosts for Fibre Channel enabled systems. Preform Common Post-CS tasks. Go to the Celerra Tools page for the NS-960 on Powerlink and select Step 5: Confi gure for Production, for more information. 38
