The half-high LTO6 or LTO5 Fibre Channel (FC) tape drive feature attaches to IBM System x and some IBM BladeCenter models through a FC host bus adapter on the server. A unique Atape driver is also required for the AIX operating system when a 6190 HHLTO6 or HHLTO5 FC tape drive is attached to the server. USB Tape, RDX, and DVD-RAM devices in the 6190 may attach to an internal USB port on an IBM System x or IBM BladeCenter system. The 6190 delivers simplified data transfer options between systems with similar tape, RDX, and DVD-RAM drive archival storage and retrieval technologies. Overview IBM Multimedia Backup Enclosure (Machine Type 6190, Option part number 61901UX) can accommodate up to two tape drives, two RDX docking stations, or up to four DVD-RAM drives. The 6190 offers SAS, USB, and Fibre Channel electronic interface drive options. The IBM Multimedia Backup Enclosure delivers external tape, removable disk drive, and DVD-RAM drive options that allow data transfer within similar archival storage and retrieval technologies already installed in existing IT facilities. 2 IBM Multimedia Backup Enclosure options HHLTO6 2.5 TB SAS and FC Tape Drive: With compressed data transfer rates of up to 320 MB/second, the HHLT06 is read-write compatible with LTO Ultrium 6 and LTO Ultrium 5 data cartridges, and read-only compatible with Ultrium 4 data cartridges. HHLTO5 1.5 TB SAS and FC Tape Drive: With compressed data transfers rate of up to 280 MB/second, the HHLT05 is read-write compatible with LTO Ultrium 5 and LTO Ultrium 4 data cartridges, and read-only compatible with Ultrium 3 data cartridges. DVD-RAM: This 9.4 GB slim optical drive with SAS or USB interface option is compatible with most standard DVD disks. RDX removable disk drives: The RDX USB 3.0 dock and drive bundles offered on 6190 are compatible with most RDX removable disk drive cartridges when used in the same operating system. The 6190 offers the following RDX 3.0 removable dock and drive bundle options: 320 GB 500 GB 1.0 TB 2.0 TB Removable RDX drives are in a rugged cartridge that inserts in an RDX 3.0 removable disk docking station. RDX drives are also compatible with docking stations installed internally in IBM System x servers. LTO Ultrium Media used in half-high LTO Ultrium tape drives are compatible with LTO tape drives installed in the IBM TS2260, TS2360, TS2250, and TS2350 external tape drives, IBM LTO tape libraries, and HHLTO tape drives installed internally in IBM System x servers. The 6190 offers Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) maintenance service to help make installation or replacement of new drives efficient. Other 6190 Model 1U3 components are also designed for CRU maintenance. Key prerequisites Mandatory software The IBM Multimedia Backup Enclosure is compatible with most IBM System x Servers. Note: All new tape device drivers will be posted to the web through the Fix Central download portal. IBM maintains the latest levels of System Storage tape drive and library device drivers and documentation on the Internet. 3 6190 USB adapter and cable For each DVD-RAM USB sled and drive or RDX docking station feature installed in the 6190, the appropriate external USB cable will be included for attachment to a System x server. These 6190 features can be connected to the integrated USB ports on the system. The DVD-RAM USB drive and the removable RDX HDD docking station features on the 6190 only support the USB cable that is provided as part of the feature number. Power supply There are no unique power supply requirements. The IBM Multimedia Backup Enclosure uses an autoranging power supply that is appropriate for all countries. Planned availability date October 10, 2014 Description IBM Multimedia Backup Enclosure has two bays designed to accommodate up to two tape drives, two RDX docking stations, or four DVD-RAM drives. The 6190 attaches to most System x servers and BladeCenter models PS700, PS701, PS702, PS703, and PS704. Orderable 6190 options include: IBM Multimedia Backup Enclosure (SEO number 61901UX) The 6190 enclosure is designed to fit in one EIA (1U) of space in a 19-inch system rack. The enclosure includes a chassis with an installed power supply and two cooling fans. There are two open bays in the front of the enclosure for installing one or two tape drives, RDX docking stations, or DVD-RAM drives. The rear of the 6190 enclosure is designed to accommodate SAS, USB, or FC drive ports. RDX 3.0 Removable Dock and Drive Bundle options (SEO numbers 00NV406, 00NV407, 00NV408, and 00NV455) RDX 3.0 Bundles offer three optional RDX drive cartridge capacities, a 320 GB, 500 GB, 1.0 TB, or 2.0 TB removable drive cartridge. The cartridges are in a protective rugged enclosure that plugs into the docking station. The docking station holds one removable disk cartridge at a time. The removable disk cartridge backs up information similar to tape drive data cartridges. The electronic interface is USB level 3.0. The RDX removable dock and drive bundles include a half-high drive latch, a USB interface assembly, and an external USB cable. RDX removable disk technology can be an excellent alternative to LTO5 tape drives and tape cartridges. At least one of the three RDX removable drive cartridge options (320 GB, 500 GB, 1.0 TB, or 2.0 TB) must be specified with each RDX Bundle feature order. 4 RDX cartridges are built to withstand a fall from nearly one meter and are durable, small, and like tape cartridges, can be stored offsite for disaster recovery protection. RDX also provides the same easy expandability as tape. When you reach capacity with one removable disk cartridge, you can manage the RDX drive information by either writing over the old data, or ejecting the full cartridge and inserting a new one. RDX removable drive cartridges can also be an alternative to DVD disks. Archiving capacities greater than 10 GB require multiple DVD disks which means more handling and shelf space are needed. A single 500 GB RDX drive cartridge, for example, can store more data than 50 standard DVDs. DVD Sled with DVD-RAM SAS Drive (SEO number 00NV409) This sled and drive feature allows the installation of one or two slim-height DVD- RAM optical drives in a single bay of the 6190 Storage Enclosure. Included in this feature is one DVD-RAM optical drive, a DVD-RAM test disk, a half-high drive latch, two slim latches, a slim blank, a drive sled with SATA redriver card, a SAS interface assembly, and an external SAS cable. The DVD-RAM slim optical drive can read and write on 4.7 GB and 9.4 GB DVD-RAM media. The DVD-RAM uses only bare media and is also read compatible with multi-session CD, CD-RW, CD recordable, and 2.6 GB and 5.2 GB DVD-RAM media. A second DVD-RAM drive (feature number AS0Q) may be added to the drive slot in the DVD sled feature. DVD Sled with DVD-RAM USB Drive (SEO number 00NV411) This sled and drive feature allows the installation of one or two slim-height DVD- RAM optical drives in a single bay of the 6190 Storage Enclosure. Included in this feature is one DVD-RAM optical drive, a DVD-RAM test disk, a half-high drive latch, two slim latches, a slim blank, a drive sled with USB converter card, a USB interface assembly, and an external USB cable. The DVD-RAM slim optical drive can read and write on 4.7 GB and 9.4 GB DVD-RAM media. The DVD-RAM uses only bare media and is also read compatible with multi-session CD, CD-RW, CD recordable, and 2.6 GB and 5.2 GB DVD-RAM media. A second DVD-RAM drive (feature number AS16) may be added to the drive slot in the DVD sled feature. Half-High LTO Ultrium 5 SAS Tape Drive (SEO number 00NV402) The half-high LTO Ultrium 5 feature is a high-performance SAS tape drive with a native capacity of up to 1.5 TB (3.0 TB with 2:1 compression). The LTO Ultrium 5 drive offers a data rate of up to 280 MB/second with compression. Half-High LTO Ultrium 6 SAS Tape Drive (SEO number 00NV404) The half-high LTO Ultrium 6 Drive feature is a high-performance SAS tape drive with a native capacity of up to 2.5 TB (6.25 TB with 2.5:1 compression). The LTO Ultrium 6 drive offers a data rate of up to 320 MB/second with compression. Half-High LTO Ultrium 6 FC Tape Drive (SEO number 00NV405) The half-high LTO Ultrium 6 feature is a high-performance FC tape drive with a native capacity of up to 2.5 TB (6.25 TB with 2.5:1 compression). The LTO Ultrium 6 drive offers a data rate of up to 320 MB/second with compression. The half-high LTO Ultrium 6 tape drive features include a test cartridge, a cleaning cartridge, a unique Atape driver, a half-high drive latch, an interface assembly, and an external cable. Media compatibility: Media used in half-high LTO Ultrium TB SAS and FC tape drives is compatible with HHLTO6 tape drives installed in the TS2260 and TS2360 external tape drive, TS2900, TS3100, and TS3200 tape libraries, and HHLTO6 tape drives installed internally in IBM System x servers. Media used in half-high LTO Ultrium TB SAS and FC tape drives is compatible with HHLTO5 tape drives installed in the TS2250 and TS2350 external tape drive, TS2900, TS3100, and TS3200 tape libraries, and HHLTO5 tape drives installed internally in IBM System x servers. Data encryption: The HHLTO6 or HHLTO5 tape drive feature on IBM Multimedia Backup Enclosure supports data encryption on the base drive with media meeting LTO consortium specifications and application managed encryption (IEEE P compliant AES-GCM 256 bit encryption algorithm). IBM Long Term File System: IBM Long Term File System software is available on the half-high LTO6 and LTO5 tape drive feature and leverages tape partitioning. Data compression technology is designed to double the amount of data that can be stored on the media, although the actual degree of compression achieved is sensitive to the data.
