Are your save/restore needs expanding? Then the new IBM 7329 Model 308 SLR100 Tape Autoloader may be your solution. It s the backup system that s compatible with your existing QIC tape formats as well as the new SLR100 tape format. The Model 308 is a stand-alone SCSI unattended automated tape backup system that attaches externally to the iseries or AS/400 family of servers. It provides native media capacity of 400 GB of automated data storage and up to 800 GB with 2:1 hardware data compression. It has a sustained data rate of 5 MB per second (10 MB per second with 2:1 compression). This data rate is nearly twice the rate of previous QIC tape backup used on AS/400. In addition to reading and writing on new IBM SLR100 tape media, the Model 308 also provides write and read compatibility with MLR3 25 GB (50 GB assuming 2:1 data compression), and backward read compatibility with MLR1 16 GB (32 GB) and SLR5 4 GB (8 GB) tape formats. The Model 308 provides an excellent migration and interchange path from other QIC tape backup, and is designed to be a highly reliable, cost-effective solution for automated save, restore, and archiving functions. 2 Description The IBM 7329 Model 308 SLR100 Tape Autoloader has a capacity of 400 GB and a sustained data transfer rate of 5 MB per second. It features data compression hardware providing an effective capacity of up to 800 GB (assuming 2:1 compression) and an effective transfer rate of 10 MB per second, depending on the characteristics of the data transferred. It provides a reliable and cost-effective solution for automated save, restore, and archiving functions. The compression technology used in the Model 308 could more than double the amount of data stored on the media. However, the actual degree of compression achieved is highly sensitive to the characteristics of the data that is being compressed. Accessibility by People with Disabilities The following features support use by people with disabilities: Controls and latches operable with one hand and minimal dexterity Ports and connectors support connection of industry-standard devices Euro Currency This product is not impacted by euro currency. Product Positioning The IBM 7329 Model 308 SLR100 Autoloader uses tape cartridges that are read/write-compatible (or read-compatible with those used on most currently installed iseries or AS/400 system internal tape drives). This means that tape cartridges used on iseries or AS/400 internal drives are interchangeable with those on the 7329 Model 308 Autoloader. For iseries or AS/400 customers who are experiencing growth in their online storage requirements, yet are seeking a low-cost automated solution, the 7329 Model 308 may be the right solution. Using an unattended backup solution for save/restore operations can improve reliability while lowering overhead costs and reducing the incidence of operator error. In contrast, for iseries or AS/400 customers who have applications where very fast access to data is important, the IBM Ultrium line of tape storage products or the Magstar MP Tape Subsystem should be recommended. These products offer high performance and high reliability at open system prices and may be better suited to applications such as storage management, network serving, image processing, and data warehousing. For AS/400 customers who need the highest in performance and reliability tape storage solutions, the Magstar 3590 Tape Subsystem or the Magstar 3494 Tape Library should be recommended.
