5 Introduction Multiview Mascot is a software package that provides greater productivity by allowing multiple terminal sessions to run at each terminal, with easy movement between the different sessions. The following pages provide basic information regarding the use of Multiview Mascot. All terminals on your system can be configured to allow the use of Multiview Mascot or only specific terminals can be allowed to use Multiview Mascot. Note: Xenix systems are limited to having Multiview Mascot on 32 terminals. Each terminal using Multiview Mascot is limited to 4 concurrent sessions. The total number of concurrent sessions allowed across the entire system is based on the type of the system. Note: T and SCO UNIX systems are limited to 256 sessions; Xenix systems are limited to 196 sessions; IBM RS6000 systems allow an unlimited number of sessions. When using Multiview Mascot, each open session has a separate number that begins with either ttyp or pts and ends with a 3-digit number. For example, if two sessions are open, the first session s number is the ttyp0 orpts0 and the second session s number is ttyp1 or pts1. Additional system resources are required to use Multiview Mascot. Changes to the configuration of your system are made at the time Multiview Mascot is installed. You may need to purchase additional hardware (memory, disk drives, and/or processors) to maintain acceptable performance levels on your system. Before Using Multiview Mascot Once Multiview Mascot is installed, your system must be configured as to which terminals are allowed to use Multiview Mascot. This configuration is done through mvwallow, a FASPAC utility program. Until you specify individual terminals through the mvwallow program, Multiview Mascot can be used on ALL terminals. Instructions for using the mvwallow program are addressed later in this document. If you prefer, contact the FASPAC Service Center for assistance. FPD/309 MMS - 5

6 INTRODUCTION Function Keys Multiview Mascot function keys are used to select Multiview Mascot options such as displaying menus and moving between open sessions. Some of the options are selected using a combination of the ESC key and a function key. The ESC key is depressed and released and then the appropriate function key is pressed and released. Timing is critical when using the selecting a Multiview Mascot option that uses a combination of ESC and another function key; if your first try doesn t produce the desired results, when you try again, slightly alter the time between releasing the ESC key and pressing the function key. To display the Root Menu: ESC, F1 To display the Help Menu: ESC, F2 To exit a Multiview Mascot Menu without selecting an option: ESC (do not be alarmed that nothing happens right away; the system is making sure that you are not going to press a function key) To hotkey to the next open session: ESC, F6 To remove the border around a screen: ESC, F10 Operating System While using Multiview Mascot, you can not access the operating system from FASPAC. To access the operating system, you must display the Multiview Mascot Root Menu and then select the UNIX or AIX option. When accessing the operating system from the Multiview Mascot Root Menu, you are required to enter the same password as required when accessing the operating system through FASPAC. Backup Process You can not run the Backup program while using Multiview Mascot. You must log off the system and log back on without using Multiview Mascot. The Backup program can then be run as usual. MMS - 6 FPD/309

7 USING MULTIVIEW MASCOT Using Multiview Mascot Once Multiview Mascot has been installed and your system has been configured, you are ready to work in multiple sessions. Log on to the system using your login id. If your terminal allows the use of Multiview Mascot, the option to access Multiview Mascot displays on your screen and a yes or no response is required. If you enter Y in the Use Multiview Mascot field, the Multiview Mascot copyright message displays and FASPAC is loaded as your first (of a possible four) session. This FASPAC session is referred to as the FASPAC Startup Screen. Note: If N is entered in the Use Multiview Mascot field, your terminal operates as usual with one available session. A border displays around the FASPAC Startup Screen. It must be removed since FASPAC needs the entire screen to run properly. To remove the border, press and release the ES key and then press and release the F10 function key. Once the border has been removed from the FASPAC Startup Screen, you have two options: Work in the FASPAC session displayed Open a new session Opening a New Session A Multiview Mascot session can be opened at any time. A total of four sessions are allowed on each terminal. To open a new session, follow these steps: 1. Display the Multiview Mascot Root Menu Note: Press and release the ESC key and then press and release the F1 function key. 2. Make a selection and press RETURN Note: The selection can be made by using the up & down arrow keys or by entering the underlined letter. FPD/309 MMS - 7

8 USING MULTIVIEW MASCOT Root Menu The Root Menu includes these selections: FASPAC IQ UNIPLEX UNIX/AIX Clients Next Session Previous Session Refresh About Quit Mascot A selection can be made by using the up and down arrow keys or by entering the underlined letter. If a software program selected (E.g.: IQ, UNIPLEX) is not available to you, a message indicating so displays. The Next Session and Previous Session options are used to move between open sessions. The Refresh option is used to redisplay the screen in the event that an application does not update the screen correctly. The About option displays the version of Multiview Mascot being used and your serial and license numbers. The Quit Mascot option is used to log off the system. See the Logging Off of the System section of this document. Caution! Never select this option when there are open sessions. The Clients option is a set of Desk Accessories. These applications are included in the Desk Accessories: Phone Books (company and personal) Filing System (company and personal) Address Books (company and personal) Scratchpad (for storing temporary information) Clipboard (a permanent notepad) The difference between the company and personal applications is that company files are shared and personal files are available only to the user who created them. 9 TERMINATING SESSIONS Moving Between Sessions Moving between open Multiview Mascot sessions is referred to as hotkeying. When you hotkey from one session to another, the session you leave is not closed it remains open and available for use. When you hotkey to a session, it displays exactly what was displayed at the time you left the session. You can hotkey from one session to another using one of these methods. Root Menu 1. Display the Multiview Mascot Root Menu (press and release the ESC key and then press and release the F1 function key) 2. Highlight either the Next Session or Previous Session option Note: the Next option scrolls forward through the open sessions; the Previous option scrolls backward hrough the open session. Use the hotkey function keys 1. Press and release the ESC key 2. Press and release the F6 function key Note: Each time these keys are pressed, the next open Multiview Mascot session displays. Terminating Sessions A Multiview Mascot session is terminated by exiting/quitting/signing off the software program accessed. If FASPAC is being used in a session, running the Sign Off program (SOF) terminates the session. If UNIPLEX is being used in a session, selecting the Quit option at the UNIPLEX Main Menu terminates the session. If IQ is being used in a session, pressing the CMD key until you exit IQ terminates the session. If you are working in the operating system (UNIX, AIX, SCO UNIX), using the Ctrl d command to exit terminates the session. Caution! Do not quit multiview mascot until all sessions have been terminated. FPD/309 MMS - 9

10 USING MULTIVIEW MASCOT Logging Off the System In order to log off the system, all Multiview Mascot sessions must first be terminated. If you try to log off the system with open sessions, this message displays: You have open Mascot Sessions. Press ESC to Abort Quit. Press EC (do NOT accept the OK option). If Multiview Mascot is exited with open sessions, it could cause file corruption. Follow the directions in the Terminating a Multiview Mascot Session section until all sessions have been terminated and the Multiview Mascot Main Menu displays. Select the Quit Mascot option. Note: To select the Quit Mascot option, either enter Q or use the arrow keys to highlight the option and press RETURN. Caution! Do not quit multiview mascot until all sessions have been terminated. Reports A report can be printing in one session while you are working in another session. The display of information while a report is running is NOT prohibitive. Example: You can run the Customer Processing List program (CP/LIS) in one session (the customer numbers display at the bottom of the screen as the report prints0 and work in Part Inquiry (PI) in another session. Error Messages There is one error message, which may display while you are working in Multiview Mascot: You already have the allowed number of windows open. Press any key to continue. Press any key to acknowledge the message. You can not open another session until you close an existing session. Access the Multiview Mascot Root Menu, select an open session, and then MMS - 10 FPD/309

11 MVWALLOW mvwallow The mvwallow program is used to configure terminals to allow the use of Multiview Mascot. All terminals can be configured at one time or individual terminals can be configured. Prior to using the mvwallow program, all terminals on your system are allowed to use Multiview Mascot. Once you use the mvwallow program to edit the list of terminals, the all configuration is deleted but can be reentered at any time. You can use the mvwallow program to limit the use of Multiview Mascot to specific terminals. You can add and delete terminals from the list of terminals allowed to use Multiview Mascot. Note: When adding or deleting individual terminals, you will use the terminal id numbers. For security reasons, you must use the fpprog login to access the mvwallow program. This login requires a password. The FASPAC Service Center is authorized to release this password only to the number one contact (as per our records) at your company. FPD/309 MMS - 11

12 USING MULTIVIEW MASCOT Main Menu Screen Summary Of Entries Edit the list of terminals allowed to use Multiview Mascot 1. Enter fpprog as the login and enter the required password 2. At the %, enter mvwallow 3. Select option 1 to add one or more terminals OR 4. Select option 2 to remove one or more terminals Note: See the next page for option 1 and 2 screen displays; once terminals have been added/deleted, select option 3 to display the current list of terminals and/or select option q to exit the mvwallow program. 13 MVWALLOW Option 1: Enter a New Terminal Summary of Entries Add one or more terminals to the list of terminals 1. In the Enter Terminal Name to Add field, enter the terminal id number OR enter all 2. Enter y in the Is This Correct field 3. Enter the terminal id number in the Name To Remove field 2. Enter y in the Is This Correct field 3.
