1 Software Announcement June 24, 2003 V8.2 Can Help Improve Work Management Overview IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler can help reduce the complexity of managing the workload on mainframes and open systems by planning and organizing virtually every phase of workload production, managing the production environment, and automating many operator activities. The solution consists of four products. z/os (formerly called Tivoli Operations and Planning [OPC]) and IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler Host Edition are essentially the same product offered under different terms and pricing. These products are focused on mainframe-based scheduling. is for open systems-based scheduling and can be used with the mainframe-based products for a comprehensive solution across both distributed and mainframe environments. Applications enables direct, easy, integration between the Workload Scheduler engine and enterprise applications such as Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, and SAP R/3. 2 Description Workload Scheduler for z/os The following new functions will be implemented for the Workload Scheduler for z/os components of V8.2. These functions help to improve the capabilities and performance of the z/os engine components and can allow better integration with distributed and other system components. End-to-End Functions: The Common Agent Technology capability introduced in Workload Scheduler V8.1 allows the z/os Workload Scheduler Engine to control and schedule jobs in a network of Fault Tolerant Agents (FTAs), replacing capabilities formerly provided by OPC Tracker Agents. Although FTA technology provides a potentially more robust and better performing solution compared to the Tracker Agents, some functions that are in common use in the user community were not provided. To provide a comparable functional level between the Tracker Agents and the Common Agent solution, and to facilitate the migration of OPC customers to the new agent infrastructure, these functions will be provided in the Common Agent Technology solution for Workload Scheduler V8.2. Centralized Script Library Management: A centralized approach will be supported for job scripts and executables running on the distributed side. The idea is to send the script to the FTA right before the job has to be scheduled. Although this does not match the Tivoli Workload Scheduler distributed approach that requires the script to be launched directly, accessible on the FTA, it is a forced approach for Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/os customers that want to migrate the old Tracker Agents to the new Common Agent technology. This enables a smoother approach for those z/os customers wishing to migrate. An important aspect of using this new approach is that you lose the fault tolerance on the FTA because the script distribution requires that the connection between the z/os engine and the FTA be up and running. The following Tracker Agent functions will also be available when using the Centralized Script: JCL variable management Job SetUp JCL Editing Job Recovery JCL Variable Substitution for non-centralized Script: A simple syntax in the job definition, inside the Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/os script library, will provide the variable substitution functionality for non-centralized scripts. At plan generation time, the Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/os engine will strip these statements from the job definition, and will parse and replace the variables used with their current value. Automated Job Recovery for non-centralized Script: Jobs running on FTAs can now have predefined, automatic job recovery. The Job Recovery actions can be performed automatically on the FTA without connection to the mainframe. Multiple Domain Managers: Workload Scheduler for z/os V8.2 adds the capability to connect multiple domain managers to the Workload Scheduler Engine. This provides a more flexible architecture that can help to remove potential performance bottlenecks

3 Tracker Agent Migration: Tools are provided that facilitate moving from OPC Tracker Agents to a solution using Fault Tolerant Agents. z/os Functions 31-bit Addressing Mode: In IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/os V8.2, many components will be modified to use 31-bit addressing mode (previously 24-bit mode). This enables more virtual memory which can be used for features and user programs. Mixed Mode Data Store: In Workload Scheduler for z/os V8.2, it is possible to customize the Scheduling Engine to connect both to CF and SNA Data Stores. Dynamic Clock Change: Workload Scheduler for z/os V8.2 automatically follows system clock changes without intervention. This improves availability as you eliminate the need to stop and restart Tivoli Workload Scheduler for time changes. Compatibility with JES SPIN Keyword: Tivoli Workload Scheduler z/os V1.2, or later supports the JESLOG parameter allowing the joblog datasets to be spun. If a joblog is spin-eligible, JES generates multiple JESMSGLG and JESYSMSG data sets for each joblog. A spun off joblog is not compatible with Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/os Data Store and JCC activity. Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/os 8.2 can turn off the JESLOG SPIN option. By default the JESLOG=NOSPIN parameter is added to the JOB card when both the following conditions occur: the scheduler submits a JCL on a CPU running z/os V1.2, or later and Data Store or JCC are used. Extended Job Name: Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/os V8.2 supports a new symbolic name field for the operations defined in the database. This name field is 54 characters long. You can set it when defining an operation in the database and it will be copied into the CP at planning time. For example, you can set the Extended Job Name field to the name of the target directory for script submission. You can query operations on database and CP filtering on it. A new predefined variable OJOBNAM will be supplied, automatically substituted with the Extended Job Name defined in the current plan. Multi-protocol Communication Services: A new multi-protocol server provides needed communication services from a single source. The protocol statement tells each server task how to start, and the new server can handle any combinations of APPC, JSC, and end-to-end networking services. Distributed Workload Scheduler: The following improvements are implemented for the distributed components of Workload Scheduler V8.2. These functions can improve the capabilities of the FTA components. Wizard-guided Installation Process: An InstallShield wizard is provided to guide in performing the following installation procedures: Install a new instance of IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler Upgrade from previous versions Add a new feature to the existing IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler installation Promote an existing installation Uninstall Strong Authentication and Encryption: Tivoli Workload Scheduler security is enhanced for connections between protected and non-protected domains by applying the authentication and encryption mechanism based in the SSL protocol. SSL uses digital certificates to authenticate the identity of a workstation. Firewall Support: Tivoli Workload Scheduler has improved communication capabilities to facilitate working across the multiple firewalls in the enterprise environment. A new configurable attribute can be included in the workstation s definition database to indicate that a firewall exists between that particular workstation and the master. Enhanced Security: In Workload Scheduler V8.2, a new centralized security mechanism can be employed to allow for more restricted user access to commands within the Workload Scheduler network. This capability includes support whereby only the administrator of the master domain manager may authorize and promote security changes within the Workload Scheduler environment. Job Return Code Mapping: Formerly, IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler considered a job to have executed successfully if it terminated with a return code of zero, and to have abended if it terminated with a return code different than zero. Now it is possible to define a logical expression for representing which return codes are considered successful. This enables more flexibility in controlling the job execution flow depending on the result of the job execution. New Options for Handling Time Constraints: Job and job streams are constrained by the start times and deadlines specified for them, and also by any dependencies they have on the completion of other jobs or job streams. A deadline specifies the time within which a job or job stream must complete. New options have been added to help determine the status of a job or job stream versus its time constraints. Job Events Processing Enhancements: New Tivoli Enterprise Console events and rules have been implemented related to the new job and job stream time constraint options. Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications R/3 Enhancements Enabled for NLS and DBCS environments SAP R/3 jobs can be defined in R3 to have special print and archive parameters SAP R3 job classes A and B are now supported for jobs executed by Tivoli Workload Scheduler Support for SAP Business Warehouse 3.x and the new BP 2.0 interface Enables operating system commands within an R/3 job Value Unit Based Pricing Value Unit based pricing will help to align the prices of these products to the principle of the PSLC pricing curve which provides for a lower price per MSU (millions of service units per hour) for larger capacities. There is also a price benefit when customers grow their capacity. Additional capacity will be based on the number of Value Units (MSUs) the customer has already installed, for example, additional capacity will not be priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit but on the capacity that is already installed. Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged/interchanged/aggregated with Value Units of another product

4 IPLA and Subscription and Support Considerations IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer s responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license. Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.
