2 Description This new release of CICS PM provides additional online and historical performance information for CICS TS for OS/390, V1.3 and CICS TS for z/os, V2.2. CICS PM: CICS PM workstation client A Java -based GUI, providing access to CICS PM function. CICS PM server application This application services the requests issued by the CICS PM client for administration of threshold and history collection definitions. CICS PM view sets Sets of views, tailored for performance analysis and problem determination enabled by the Web user interface server, are part of the CICS PM V1.2 product, and are viewed at the workstation by a Web browser. The CICS PM workstation client provides the ability to create, modify, and apply customer threshold definitions on the monitored CICS systems. In addition, CICS PM provides a predefined set of threshold definitions. The CICS PM workstation client also allows monitoring of active thresholds and currently active events, as well as displaying a recent history of active events. New in Release 2 The CICS PM workstation client now also provides the ability to collect historical task data for improved online problem determination. Users may: Define collection criteria Install the definitions into the runtime View collection criteria and related information in the runtime Stop collection in the runtime Observe historical task data, utilizing the extensive filtering capabilities The Web user interface can be launched from the CICS PM workstation client and display the CICS PM view sets, in a context-sensitive fashion. No separate sign-on to the Web user interface is required. A CICS PM view set is related to a single CICS object class (for example, a transaction). The view sets contain detailed performance information on the monitored CICS systems and provide intuitive navigation of that information via the Web user interface. In V1.2, the CICS PM view sets are also used to present historical task data. This release also provides significant data coverage enhancements, as well as extensive changes to improve usability characteristics of the end-user interface. CICS PM is installed using SMPE. The CICS PM workstation client is downloaded from the mainframe and is installed on the client using Microsoft Software Installer. The workstation client will execute on Windows NT V4, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. CICS PM requires the CICSPlex System Manager (SM) component of CICS TS to be running; tools are provided to enable its easy setup and configuration, and the CICS PM documentation includes all required CICSPlex SM information. The CICS PM workstation client: The CICS PM workstation client is an application that provides a GUI on a Windows workstation, displaying data provided by a supporting application of CICS PM installed in CICS TS. The GUI of the CICS PM workstation client consists of two components: Definitional component Allows the user to utilize product-provided definitions, or to create and maintain their own definitions. Definitions can be threshold definitions or historical definitions. A grouping construct allows simple administration of sets of definitions. Groups of definitions can be installed into multiple CICS regions using an install button. The ability to view, modify and discard installed definitions is also provided. Monitoring component Monitors the status of multiple CICS regions. When a threshold is triggered, an event is created. Information about multiple events is aggregated into an event signature view, a panel on the screen, for rapid problem identification. This aggregation can be controlled at the level of system group, region, resource type, or resource instance. Navigation to the CICS PM view sets enables drilldown to facilitate problem resolution by providing more detailed information. Historical task data is available through the Web user interface via filter criteria. The CICS PM view sets: CICS PM, using the CICSPlex SM Web user interface server component of CICS TS, provides a comprehensive series of view sets specifically tailored for performance analysis and problem determination. The view sets are automatically selected using the links from the monitoring component of the CICS PM workstation client. Alternatively, however, they can be invoked directly from a Web browser connected to the Web user interface. These view sets provide real-time access to all CICS system and resource-related performance data. In addition, these sets provide access to all the task level performance data collected by the CICS Monitoring Facility (CMF), including file resource usage by task. They include extensive links to allow easy navigation through the views as well as the ability to make operational changes to key system and resource parameters, for example, maxtask limit, Dynamic Storage Area (DSA) limits, purging tasks, closing files, discarding unwanted CICS resource definitions, or deleting temporary storage queues. The CICS system level view sets include: CICS region CICS storage (DSAs and subpool usage) Transaction manager CICS dispatcher Loader Temporary storage, including shared temporary storage pools Transient data DB2 connection Recovery manager, including unit-of-work analysis Enqueue pools JVMpool User exits global and task related

3 The view sets provide access to all the resources defined to the CICS systems, including: Transactions Transaction classes Programs Files, including data tables, data set names, and local shared resource (LSR) pools Connections Logstreams Journals Temporary storage queues Transient data queues Terminals DBCTL entries System and transaction dumps Enterprise Java resources Other view sets are provided, giving access to the performance information about all the active tasks in the CICS systems, including task identification information, task status, suspend information, unit-of-work analysis, CPU usage, storage usage, program, file, temporary storage requests, and others. An extensive range of task level views is provided, with navigation links, which show all the performance data collected by the CMF, including file resource usage by individual task. Also viewable are the outstanding events (as determined by the threshold definitions defined by the CICS PM workstation client, or set up by CICSPlex SM), together with the threshold definitions. Key enhanced function in CICS PM V1.2 Support for historical data CICS PM V1.2 provides comprehensive historical task data access for diagnosis of: Current problems using recent history to identify the symptoms, leading up to the event Problems that have happened in the recent past in order to prevent future reoccurrence For long-term analysis and capacity planning, CICS PA offers extensive historical database capabilities. Historical task data collection Historical task data is collected on a set of extended VSAM KSDS files per CICS region. In order to identify which task data is to be collected, the CICS PM workstation client GUI can be used to define the collection criteria. Such criteria includes transaction ID, terminal ID, user ID, and unit-of-work ID. The CICS PM client can also be used to identify what data is currently being collected and the status of the history data sets. The amount of data collected is limited only by the size of the data sets. When these data sets are full, wrapping will occur, replacing oldest data first. This data persists across CICS region, CMAS and LPAR Restarts. Working with historical task data CICS PM provides extensive filtering capabilities against historical task data. To simplify access, the CICS PM client provides a launch window where the filtering criteria can be specified. From here you can launch the Web user interface directly to the data you specified. Historical task data can be viewed from multiple CICS regions simultaneously by setting the appropriate context and scope in the client via the topology tree. The historical task data extensive filtering capability and easy to use collection mechanisms offer significant enhancements to online problem determination capabilities of CICS PM. Improved resource coverage: The resource coverage provided by CICS PM V1.2 is increased to improve the tracking and reporting of critical events within the CICS region. 1. Current CICS storage detail A breakdown of CICSDSAs by task into storage elements is provided. The task storage element list shows the address and length of each storage element. The UDSA, EUDSA, CDSA, and ECDSA are each listed separately. 2. MVS views Give summary information for TCB storage and CPU time usage. 3. Transaction resource monitoring Additional transaction resource monitoring data are provided for Temporary Storage Queues as well as additional performance class monitoring data for the CICS Resource Manager Interface (RMI). New/changed view sets: Many changes have been made to the view sets and the underlying CICSPlex SM Base Tables. These changes provide extra information on the status of the CICS resources and extra actions that can be performed against those resources. Detailed changes have been made to over one hundred of the existing views to improve readability and usability. The changes include: Changes to the data layout to reduce scrolling Improved presentation of numeric and character fields Improved filtering to reduce the amount of data displayed Additional hyperlinking and general improvements to the ordering and grouping of data for easier problem diagnosis Enhancements to CICS PA As part of the strategy for CICS PM, corresponding enhancements have been made to CICS PA, which has been updated to provide additional reporting capabilities. These facilities enable it to report enhanced CMF resource class (temporary storage queue usage by task), which is also now available for monitoring by CICS PM. The new CICS PA V1.3 transaction resource usage reports provide detailed analysis of these CMF resource class records collected, and include: Transaction Resource Usage List Transaction Temporary Storage Queue Usage Summary Temporary Storage Queue Usage Summary Accessibility by people with disabilities CICS PM has four user interface components: The CICS PM workstation client GUI. This is the primary user interface for using the product. Written in Java 1.4, it takes advantage of the supported accessibility settings (system settings for font, and so forth). This component is suitable for keyboard only operation (without using a mouse). The GUI has two accessibility limitations that make it unsuitable for users who use a screen-reader or cannot read medium system fonts on a 1280 x 1024 resolution screen:

4 Changing the font size to larger fonts introduces a usability problem as then the GUI will not all fit on the screen and scrolling is required. It is important to view the whole of the screen at the same time, as it is used to give visual alerts of abnormal system status. The tasks supported require fast response to system events. This makes the product intrinsically unsuitable for blind screen-reader users (sound is a serial access modality and not suitable for monitoring such systems). Color coding of information has been used throughout this component; however, it has been designed so that it may be effectively used by color-blind users. The Web user interface views. A set of Web user interface views may be launched by the CICS PM workstation client GUI. These have been tested for accessibility and comply with Section 508 of the U.S. Federal Rehabilitation Act. This component supports optional font enlargement and high-contrast display settings. All functions may be accessed with a keyboard, without using a mouse. This component has been tested with assistive technologies including a screen reader. User assistance information. Online help is provided in Java Help, which allows the user to change font size and color. The online help has been tested with assistive technologies including a screen reader. The main documentation is provided in PDF and HTML format. Installation. Microsoft Software Installer is used for installation onto Windows platforms. This is accessible. None of the components use audio alerts, so this product is suitable for users with hearing limitations. Value Unit-based pricing Value Unit-based pricing will help to align the prices of these products to the principle of the Parallel Sysplex License Charge (PSLC) pricing curve which provides for a lower price per MSU (millions of service units per hour) for larger capacities. There is also be a price benefit when customers grow their capacity. Additional capacity will based on the number of Value Units (MSUs) the customer has already installed; for example, additional capacity will not be priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit but on the capacity that is already installed. Note: Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged/interchanged/aggregated with Value Units of another product. International Program License Agreement (IPLA) and subscription and support considerations IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer s responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license. Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made. Terms and conditions Sub-capacity charges terms and conditions IBM zseries software charges at less than full machine capacity for eligible data management (DM), application development (AD), and CICS tools apply when z/os is running in z/architecture (64-bit) mode on a zseries 900, no other MVS -based operating system is licensed to that server, and the required information is provided by the customer in accordance with the applicable terms. Sub-capacity charges for an eligible AD, DM, or CICS tool is based on the z/os product-defined capacity. To obtain charges at less than full machine capacity for eligible AD, DM, and CICS tools, the customer is required to: Determine the MSUs needed for each machine on which the tools will run. Only machines on which the customer has implemented sub-capacity Workstation License Charges (WLC) according to the above terms and conditions, are eligible for charges at less than full machine capacity for the tools. Use the product-defined capacity for z/os (as specified on the sub-capacity reports submitted to IBM for sub-capacity WLC) as the sub-capacity (MSUs) for each tool. Submit any additional MSUs and/or Value Units required for each product along with the current entitlement in Value Units for each product. Sub-capacity charges for AD, DM, and CICS tools To be eligible for sub-capacity charges for AD, DM, and CICS tools, the machine on which the AD, DM, or CICS tools are running must be eligible for WLC sub-capacity charges terms and conditions. The customer must have signed the Attachment for zseries Workload License Charges-Pre-ILM (Z ) and submitted at least one sub-capacity report to IBM as defined in the attachment. With sub-capacity charges, the charge for an eligible AD, DM, or CICS Tool is based on the z/os product-defined capacity. To obtain charges at less than full machine capacity for each eligible AD, DM, and CICS tool for each machine, the customer should: Determine the MSUs needed for the machine on which the tools will run. In a data-sharing environment, determine the aggregate MSUs needed on the machine where the tools run. Use the product-defined capacity (MSUs) for z/os (as specified on the sub-capacity reports submitted to IBM for sub-capacity WLC) as the sub-capacity (MSUs) for each tool. Submit any additional MSUs and/or Value Units required for each product along with the current entitlement in Value Units for each product. If the use of sub-capacity pricing terms for AD, DM, and CICS tools results in a reduced requirement for Value Units, thus freeing up entitlements, customers can reallocate the entitlement difference by

9 distributing the Value Units across a larger or different set of systems, or reserve them for future growth. There will be no refunds for these freed up Value Units. Subscription and Support volumes and entitlements for existing contracts will continue to be at the same levels as the acquired licenses. Management of the Value Unit entitlements continues to be a customer responsibility. If one of the following occur on a machine to which AD or DM tools are licensed, the customer must determine if additional Value Units and Subscription and Support need to be ordered for those tools to cover the increase: The z/os-defined capacity is increased. The requirements for WLC sub-capacity charges are no longer met. Licensing: IPLA. Proofs of entitlement are required for all authorized use. These products are licensed under the IPLA, the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Support, and the Addendum for Support (Z ), which provides for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an ongoing recurring charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours) as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.
