2 Description CSM for AIX Remote Hardware Control for pseries 655 and 630 (7028-6C4) also runs on LPARs for pseries 630. AIX Interoperability with Linux Distributions is enabled with AIX management server and Linux managed nodes on xseries hardware running the following: Red Hat 7.2 Red Hat 7.3 Red Hat 8.0 Red Hat Advanced Server (AS) 2.1 SuSE 8.0 SuSE 8.1 SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 7 SLES 8 Node Range Support Added to CSM Commands for Increased Usability: All CSM commands are intended to support a range of node addresses (for example, nodes 1 through 10 or IP addresses through ). CSM for Linux Additional Hardware and Linux Distributions: Combinations of CSM with Linux operating systems are dependent upon specific hardware models. To see if CSM runs on the desired combination of Linux distribution and hardware, refer to the Frequently Asked Questions section at: Multiple Install Servers for Increasing Scalability of Concurrent Installs allows multiple machines, called install servers, to supply CSM installation files to the cluster. Previously all CSM installation files were stored on the management server, under the /csminstall directory. This could create a scaling bottleneck during CSM and OS installations. Using multiple install servers means you can increase the number of concurrent CSM and Red Hat Linux OS installs. CSM / xcat Interoperability and Transition Items: xcat is a script-based tool provided by IBM to manage certain types of Linux clusters. Tools are available on the Enhanced Cluster Tools AlphaWorks Web site to assist in having xcat and CSM co-exist on the same cluster or moving a cluster from xcat to CSM. The download package includes scripts to convert xcat data information into a format appropriate for CSM. These scripts can be run multiple times, only converting the deltas so that for an interim time you can run xcat and CSM. Additional scripts and documentation are available for xcat and CSM co-existence. Also, tools can help set up hardware control, perform remote BIOS upgrades, automatically set up a portable batch system, and aid in installing other high-performance computing utilities. Alignment of CSM and IBM Director: A new extension for IBM Director 4.1, the Linux Cluster Support extension allows IBM Director to recognize CSM for Linux clusters and permits management of such clusters through the Director Console. The function of the Linux cluster support extension is designed to include: Recognition of CSM management servers and nodes as such during system discovery Representation of CSM for Linux clusters in the Director Console as manageable entities Ability to view CSM node attribute data as if it were any other system inventory data using the Console s Inventory Browser Ability to create Dynamic Groups of CSM nodes based on CSM node attribute data (as well as any other system inventory data) Ability to build Event Action Plans based on CSM cluster ERRM conditions (as well as any other Director event types), and the ability to trigger Director actions based on RMC events Node Range Support added to CSM Commands for Increased Usability: All CMS commands are intended to support a range of node addresses (for example, nodes 1 through 10 or IP addresses through ). Ability to Tailor and Run User Customization Scripts During Install and Update: CSM functions allow you to write your own scripts that can be run at specific points during the node installation and update processes. You can implement scripts to customize the installation of your systems, performing tasks unique to your environment. You can specify scripts to be run for a single node, a node group, or all the nodes in the cluster. These user scripts can be run before the node is booted during installation, after the node is rebooted, and during an update of software for the node. Subset of CSM Functions with no Footprint on Minimally Managed Nodes: If you wish to use CSM to initially install and configure cluster nodes, but do not wish to incur the resource overhead of having CSM or RMC software on your nodes in a production environment, you can define nodes to be minimally managed by CSM. If a node is designated to be minimally managed, and CSM installation processes are used to install the node, no CSM or RMC software will be installed on the node. Minimally managed nodes have limited management functions available from the CSM management server. These nodes can be included in CSM node groups, can be the target of Remote Hardware Control command execution (via the dsh command), can be managed by CSM hardware control functions, and can be monitored for reachability status by means of a simple fping mechanism. The following CSM management server functions self-contained within the management server continue to be available: Listing of CSM management data for all nodes Monitoring conditions and responses on the management server Diagnostic probes for the management server The following management functions requiring CSM interaction with the node will not be available for minimally managed nodes: Node updates Configuration File Management (CFM) Software Maintenance System (SMS) Full node reachability status using RMC heartbeating Monitoring conditions and responses on the nodes Diagnostic probes on the nodes

3 Fully managed CSM nodes and minimally managed CSM nodes can co-exist in the same Linux cluster. Minimally managed Linux nodes do not run in a mixed cluster with an AIX CSM management server. Accessibility by People with Disabilities The following features support use by people with disabilities: Operation by keyboard alone Optional font enlargement and high-contrast display settings Product Positioning The marketing positioning is unchanged with this announcement.
