Executive Summary The goal of deliverable 2.7 is to show the design process and the final product of the Elasstic project which is the result of Work Package 2, with input from Work Package 3 Design for safe operations and Work Package 4 Evaluation and proof of concept. The integrated design of the Elasstic complex forms the basis of Work Package 2. The aim of Work Package 2 is firstly to create a full design of a safe, secure and resilient, large scale, multifunctional building complex in order that the Elasstic team members can explore and experiment with the various impacts as a consequence of different catastrophe scenarios. Afterwards, the project can be redesigned taking into account the analysis data that have been elaborated. As previously described in the deliverable D2.3, there are three parts to the design stages: 1. BENCHMARK DESIGN - A preliminary design in order that all the Elasstic team can validate a certain architectural approach and also that the whole design team can base their appropriate specializations, including structures and building services st COORDINATED DESIGN A full conceptual design following the studies of each design team member. This design will be the basis which be used for testing and experimenting the different hazard scenarios st INTEGRATED DESIGN A redesign of the concept design following the integration of the research analysis made in Work Package n 3. The design has made extensive use of BIM (Building Information management), hazard simulations from WP3 to predict impact of hazards on the complex, as well as MCA (multi-criteria analysis) from WP4 to be able to judge and decide design decisions. These are all shown in the Prezi presentation and flyer. The digital flyer as well as the Prezi presentation show the design process and decision graph of the project, while the deliverable 2.7 Demonstrator of the Elasstic design shows the 1 st integrated design as an interactive 3D model. Both elements are publicly accessible via the Elasstic public website This deliverable report describes shortly the two elements of the demonstration of the Elasstic design. Keywords: 1 st Integrated design, 2 nd Quantitative Design, Hazard scenarios, Elasstic program, The Ribbon, Showcase, BIM technology, Virtual reality, Interactive, Prezi, PDF, Flyer. FINAL 2
Contents Executive Summary... 2 Contents Introduction / background Interactive presentation of the 1 st integrated design Demonstration elements interactive presentation of the design process - Prezi interactive Movie Discussion and conclusion Acknowledgment FINAL 3
1 Introduction / background 1.1 INTERACTIVE PRESENTATION OF THE 1 ST INTEGRATED DESIGN The 1 st interactive design is used as a representation of the work and research done during the Elasstic project. It can be used by the consortium members for various dissemination and exploitation needs, such as conferences, lectures etc. These presentations will also be placed on the project public website. The objective of the Prezi presentation is to show an ideal design process on the basis of the Elasstic design, in the case that hazard implications are taken into account during the whole process. We show the design process as it should be, taking into account the issues and subjects we studied and tested during the Elasstic project. Users, researchers and the general public can use this information as a whole or partly to test and improve the general design process of complexes and complex projects. The Elasstic design shows the 1 st integrated design in two parts: an interactive 3D model and an interactive presentation of the design process. These elements were developed together with WP5. FINAL 4
2 Demonstration elements The results of the work within the team and based on the final BIM model of the 1 st integrated design are shown as two elements: an interactive 3D model and an interactive presentation of the design process. 2.1 INTERACTIVE PRESENTATION OF THE DESIGN PROCESS - PREZI 1. An interactive Prezi presentation on the project showing the general aim of the project, the usage of BIM, the aim of the MCA (multi-criteria analysis and the design process. The design process shows the ideal process, including the design and the design against additional hazards. Input from the various hazard simulators is shown as well as the decision-making process with MCA. The end result takes into account evacuation simulations and the exploitation of the building during its life cycle in a BMS (Building management system). The end result is shown as an interactive Prezi presentation which can be used as a standalone presentation, as an interactive presentation during a lecture or embedded on a website. It is envisaged that the consortium partners and interested parties can use this product for dissemination and exploitation. The Prezi presentation shows the digital flyer as a type of fly-over, which can be stopped at any point or be run as a stand-alone presentation. The various elements are colour coded for easy navigation Design steps - Black MCA (multi criteria analysis) Yellow Hazard scenarios Red BIM Building Information Management Blue Various images and diagrams explain the content together with the textual descriptions and explanations. As a first step we explain general information used in the design process: Protection against hazards (red box) MCA multi criteria analysis (yellow) At the top of the flyer the steps of the design process are shown (in black and with images) from left to right: FINAL 5
The row of yellow boxes shows the steps and decisions taken for each design step, as weighed in the MCA. Each step has in input from the previous design step and an output to the next step. 1. Project initiation 2. Definition 3. Analysis 4. Design concepts 5. Sketch design 6. Preliminary design 7. Design adjustments due to hazards simulations 8. Definitive design 9. Exploitation / usage of the building. Step 7. Design adjustments due to hazards simulations has an additional impact on the process. At this stage of the design, the Preliminary design, the design has a sufficient level of detail for hazard simulations to be made, The output to the simulations is the complete BIM model of the preliminary design, Each hazard simulation has its own output. These are shown in the lower part of the flyer: The hazards red boxes deliver a result and advice to the design The Design options- white boxes show the various options that could alleviate the impact of a hazard The MCA (Multi criteria analysis0 yellow boxes show the decision making and final choice The Design adjustment black boxes- show the design decision and integration into the project. 1. Biohazard 2. Explosion 3. Earthquake 4. Wind 5. Airplane crash 6. Flooding 7. Each hazard has an implication on the Evacuation of a complex, which is simulated separately. FINAL 6
Screenshots of the Prezi presentation: The Prezi presentation takes you on an adjustable path through the digital flyer, shown above. It tells the story of the design process, as well as showing animations and movies that were made in the course of the Elasstic project. FINAL 7
FINAL 8
2.2 INTERACTIVE MOVIE 2. An interactive movie based on the BIM model, which can be opened on a smartphone. Using the accelerometer of the phone it is possible to look around the building while moving through it. To view the movies on your smartphone without the VR glasses, but with the possibility of a 360view, you can use the YouTube movies below: Screenshots of the VR movie on a smartphone: There is also a 3D version available upon request, due to the size of the file it can t be made accessible to the public indefinitely. It works by putting a smartphone in an inexpensive holder, which is worn like a pair of glasses. By separating the left and right images a 3D effect is achieved. FINAL 9
3 Discussion and conclusion All the consortium partners contributed to deliverable D2.7, delivering input for the Prezi presentation etc. A group consisting of JA, NXN, TNO and Arcadis have worked together in the last 6 months of the project gathering information from the partners, organising the storyline, writing additional text and producing images and diagrams. The end result was produced by JA, NXN and Arcadis to deliver the final PDF, Prezi and movie files. The final result has been shown at the end workshop of the project as well as the final review meeting. It will be included on the project website as well. The result conforms and exceeds to requirements stated in the description of work. FINAL 10
