1 2016 IDA DESIGN COMPETITION REGISTRATION & REQUIREMENTS The IDA Design Competition committee is very excited to be introducing new categories and team entries this year. Product categories have been introduced to showcase exceptional design elements produced by industry partners. We encourage all designers, their team partners, and industry partners to enter this year s competition. It is a wonderful way to gain publicity for your firm, and highlight the interior design profession in our area. Winning entries will be honored and awards bestowed at a gala event to be held April 8, 2016 at Union Trust 717 Chestnut St. Philadelphia, PA. ELIGIBILITY: The IDAs are open to any individual or firm practicing interior design within the geographic area served by the Pennsylvania East Chapter of ASID. Any project completed since January 1, 2013, that has not won a previous IDA award may be submitted. CATEGORIES: Residential R01 Tiny House/Compact Living R02 Single Family Residence 1,100-3,000 SF R03 Single Family Residence 3, SF R04 Single Family Residence 6,001 SF and over R05 Residence Kitchen R06 Residence Bath R07 Home Office/Library R08 Home Theater/Media Room R09 Bedroom for Baby/Child/Teen R10 Outdoor Living Space R11 Lighting Design R12 Unique Space - Garage, Home Gym, Studio, Boat, Plane, RV, Etc. R13 Custom - Uniquely made furnishing or feature that is not mass produced, or a COM modification of a mass produced item. I.e. cabinetry, upholstery, closet systems, window treatments, etc. R14 Historic Preservation (restoration, renovation, adaptive reuse) R15 Green/Sustainable Design R16 Aging in Place/Universal Design

The IDA s will post one picture from each project to our Facebook page. The image to receive the most likes will receive the People s Choice award. ** Note- you may enter a space only once. For example- you may not enter an entire home in the Residential 3500 sq.ft. Category and include a picture of the kitchen and then enter Residential Kitchen with the same photo and the same kitchen. If you wish to enter the kitchen as a separate category, then you cannot use it in another space. 3 PHOTOGRAPHY All photographs entered in the Interior Design Awards competition must be 300dpi (dots per inch resolution). The file size for each photo cannot be larger than 10MB. If the photographs do not meet this requirement, winner s images will not be used in any publications. ENTRY FEE Fee is $125 for each project entry. For additional team members it is $50 per project, per team member. For Students Category S1 the fee is $25 per project ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA TUTORIAL WORKSHOPS An informative hands-on tutorial workshop for entry requirements, submission, rules, regulations, photographer tips, etc will be scheduled. Please go to for more information. We strongly encourage all designers who are unfamiliar with digital online entry to attend a session. HOW TO ENTER/ ENTRY REQUIREMENTS By requesting that all information be electronic, the Entry Format has been designed to be both environmentally friendly and cost efficient. This format also creates an even judging platform- void of graphics and extras that may enhance a project. The committee believes this is the most blind and fair format we have found to date. It is also the least expensive to produce. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY- ENTRIES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FOR NOT FOLLOWING ANY OF THE LISTED INSTRUCTIONS, NO MATTER HOW UNIMPORTANT THEY MAY SEEM. NO MONIES WILL BE RETURNED FOR DISQUALIFICATION. PROJECT ENTRY PART I: REGISTRATION Click here to register You must complete the registration form which requires: Your Company/Firm Name First Name, Last Name List of each project and category you wish to enter. I. E. if you wish to enter a total of five projects; three projects in category R02, one project in category C01, and one project in category C03. You would list them like this: R02, R02, R02,C01, C03
4 Payment for each project entry. Once registration and payment are received by the competition administrator you will receive an with your unique log in to the competition website. The will also include a link to this log in page: PROJECT ENTRY PART II: PROJECT FORMS AND DOCUMENTS Once logged in click on the entry list: You will be prompted to select the contest to view: After clicking Go - You will see a list of your entries:
5 Click on one of the entries to expand and you will see the links to required documents: The Manage Entry Images section will be visible to the judges. The documents and images uploaded in this section cannot reveal the name of the designer, design firm, client, or other project team members. Remove all title blocks, logos, firm names and other identifying items from all images. MANAGE ENTRY IMAGES: Once you click the button to Manage Entry Images you will see two sections. You will upload the design statement in the first section. In the section labeled photographs you will load all other project images.
6 DESIGN STATEMENT: You may upload one pdf document All text should be Arial font, 18 point 200 words or less Page orientation should be landscape Do not use additional graphics or animations The design statement is a verbal presentation in written form. Pretend you are speaking directly to another person, set the stage for the juror and reader, identify the problem or challenge, and identify the specific goals for the project, and explain how you resolved them. Also incorporate the scope of your projectwas this a decorating project or a full renovation? And if it was a renovation, make sure to describe what your responsibilities included. PHOTOGRAPHS: Each Image should be 300 dpi and no larger than 10MB Each image can include a caption the caption should have a title And brief description 150 characters maximum there is only a default font style. Do not use additional graphics or animations. Remove all title blocks, logo, and firm names from all images. PHOTOS 1-8: After Project Photos The maximum amount of photos allowed are eight. If you do a small room, you may only have 3 photos, this is OK. Do not exceed 8 photos. Caption: Each image can include a caption the caption should have a title and brief description 150 characters maximum there is only a default font style No computer rendered images allowed. Photography only. (Exception: Category S01 Student competition)
7 PHOTO TITLE Description and title combined must be 150 characters or less. There is only a default font style. PHOTOS 9 12: Supporting Images o Depending on what category you enter and to what extent you wish to display more work, follow up images are limited to 4 items. You may choose what will best represent your project, but you are limited to 4 additional images. A before plan. No title blocks, designer identifications, logo, resources, client identification allowed. Room name identifications are allowed. An after plan. You may note on the floor plan the locations for the photos in photographs 1 8. Use tags- A, B, C, etc, in your caption. No title blocks, designer identifications, logo, resources, client identification allowed. Room name identifications can be included. FLOOR PLAN - AFTER RECEPTION AREA PLAN VIEW A -
8 Natural light, organic patterns, and soothing colors are balanced to induce serenity. A reflected ceiling plan. No title blocks, designer identifications, logo, resources, client identification allowed. Progress Photographs Concept drawings/sketches Before pictures: limited to 1 pdf or jpg file, 8.5 x 11 page, landscape orientation. 4 (four) pictures max on page. These photos do not have to be 300 dpi and do not require descriptions. If you included a before floor plan, you may tag these with the letter key used on that plan. Custom Category, Product Categories, and Student Category may include conceptual and detail drawings of product. PEOPLE S CHOICE PHOTO Please choose one image from your presentation that you feel best represents your project. When viewing the image in the application, select the checkbox that marks this as the photo to be used in all media coverage, then save it. That image will be used as the PEOPLE S CHOICE ENTRY. If you do not select an image, you will not be entered into this category.

Completing both forms is an entry requirement. Each project requires a separate set of forms. Each project entered requires a Design Statement, Entry Images, Official Entry Form, and a Release Form. Competition winners will be required to complete the IDA Digital Award Release Form- this is a separate sheet available at The IDA logo and related materials are protected by copyright and winners cannot use the logo without complying with and completing this form. TEAM MEMBER ENTRIES The primary or lead designer on a project must register the project before team members can complete their entries. Once a lead designer has registered and received log in information they will have an assigned entry list with a number for each project they entered. It is a five digit number, the first two digits define the category and the last three digits are unique. In the example above the first entry on that designer s list is R You need to obtain this number from the lead designer to include on your entry form. Team members of winning projects will be required to complete the IDA Digital Award Release Form- this is a separate sheet available at The IDA logo and related materials are protected by copyright and winners cannot use the logo without complying with and completing this form. PART III: DESIGN BOARDS Winning entries will be required to complete a project board 20 x 30 for display at the Gala.
