3 I. Customizing your Menu Buttons Blackboard 6 allows you to customize your menu buttons extensively. You can rename, reorder, and change the color of the buttons. You can also add or delete these buttons wherever necessary. I). To change the design and color of the buttons 1. Go to Control Panel. 2. Click Settings under Organization Options. 3. Scroll down and click Organization Design. 4. Click Organization Design again. 5. Choose either buttons or text as your organization menu. 6. If you choose buttons as your navigation style, select your button type, shape and style. 7. Click the Submit button. 8. Click OK to go back to Control Panel. II). To rename your organization menu buttons, 1. Go to Control Panel. 2. Click Manage Organization Menu in Organization Options section. 2 Information Technology Services

4 3. To rename the organization menu button, click on the Modify button next to the organization menu button you d like to rename. 4. Either choose from the drop down list, or type in the name in the Area Name box. 5. Click the Submit button. 6. Click OK. You ll be back to the Manage Organization Menu page. III). To reorder the organization menu button, 1. Go to Control Panel. 2. Click Manage Organization Menu in Organization Options section. 3. Click the drop down arrow before the button and choose the number you d like to put this button in the menu. 4. You ve reordered the Organization Menu buttons. IV). To add a menu button, 1. Go to Control Panel. 2. Click Manage Organization Menu in Organization Options section. Information Technology Services 3

5 3. Select one of the buttons to Add Content Area, Tool Link, Organization Link, or External Link depending which area you d like to add a button to. 4. Set area properties by filling in the appropriate information for Area Type, Area Name, etc. 5. Click the Submit button. 6. Click OK. You ll be back to the Manage Organization Menu page. V). To delete an organization menu button --This action will delete all the content under this area. 1. Click the Remove button next to the button you d like to delete. 2. A warning will pop up to remind you that the content under this area will be deleted. 3. If you still decide to remove the button, click OK. You ll be back to the Manage Organization Menu page. 4. Do not remove the Tools button because you ll remove all the tools and are not able to get them back. Instead you can disable some of the tools you don t need by clicking the Modify button. Then make the tool that you don t need unavailable. 4 Information Technology Services

6 II. Adding a Banner for your Organization I). Go to the following web site to create your banner, and then save it to your local computer. II). Upload the banner you created to your organization by the following steps. 1. Go to Control Panel. 2. Click Settings under Organization Options. 3. Scroll down and click Organization Design. 4. Click Organization Banner. 5. Click on the Browse button. 6. Click on the Submit button. 7. Click on the link of your organization name. You should see the banner added to your Organization. III. Posting an Announcement 1. Go to your organization. 2. Click Control Panel down the bottom of the organization menu buttons. 3. Click Announcements under Organization Tools. 4. Click Add Announcement. 5. Fill in the Announcement Information, then Submit and click OK. Your announcement should be posted. IV. Uploading Documents to Blackboard 1. After you open up one of your courses, go to Control Panel down the bottom of course menu buttons. 2. Click Documents under Content Areas. Information Technology Services 5

7 3. Click Add Item. 4. Fill in the document information, either select a name by clicking the drop-down arrow or specify your own name. 5. You can copy and paste the document into the text box, or upload your document file by clicking the Browse button to attach your document file, then choose Create a link to this file. 6. Make it visible to members, and then Submit. 6 Information Technology Services

8 V. Enrolling Users in my Blackboard Organization 1. Go to Control Panel of your site 2. Click Enroll Users under User Management 3. Type in your member s last name. Click the Search button or hit Enter 4. A list of peoples name will show up. Click the Check Box before the user s name. Information Technology Services 7

9 5. Click the Submit button. You ve enrolled your member in your organization. 6. Remember not to enroll everyone on campus to your organization site in order to avoid that the information is overwhelming to people. VI. Creating a survey 1. Go to Control Panel down the bottom of menu buttons. 2. Click Survey Manager under Assessment 3. Click Add Survey. 4. Fill in the survey name, type in a description and fill in the instructions in the Instruction box 8 Information Technology Services

10 5. Click on Submit. 6. Select the type of questions you want the survey to consist of and click on GO to input your questions 7. Type in the question and then the possible answers in the boxes. Information Technology Services 9

11 8. Hit Submit and repeat steps 6 through 8 until all of your questions have been input 9. Click OK on the Survey Canvas page. VII. Posting a Survey 1. Go to Control Panel. 2. Go to a content area, such as Document, you d like to post your survey. 3. Click on the drop-down menu and choose Survey, then click Go. 4. Choose the survey that you just created under Select an Existing Survey. Then click Submit. Now your survey has been added to the content area you selected. 5. Be sure that you make your survey visible to your readers by going to Modify the survey options. 6. Fill in the appropriate information for the survey Information, Survey Availability, Survey Feedback, Survey Presentation. Then Submit. 10 Information Technology Services

12 VIII. Viewing the Survey Result 1. Go to Control Panel. 2. Go to Gradebook. 3. Click on the name of the survey. 4. Choose Assessment Attempt Details. 5. You ll be able to see the result of the survey. Information Technology Services 11

13 Note: Group leaders will be able to view the survey result as a whole group. Group leaders will not be able to view an individual s survey result instead they can view whether the member has completed the survey or not. 12 Information Technology Services

Please make sure that the files you upload are in the format that Blackboard supported, otherwise other users will not be able to open/ view your files on their computer.
