Kaltura Video Presentation

1 OVERVIEW: Kaltura is a media (video, audio, images) hosting and creation application that is integrated into the Blackboard LMS. Kaltura allows instructors to easily create and share media wherever there is access to Blackboard s content editor in Blackboard via the Mashup tool. Kaltura s Video Presentation tool allows you to enhance your videos by synchronizing them with timed PowerPoint Presentations or document walk-throughs. Once you have a video file and presentation file (PPT, document) ready and uploaded to Kaltura, you can put them together into one Video Presentation. Video Presentations can be used in the following areas: Assignments Discussion Board Essay Questions on Tests Blogs, Journals and Wikis Announcements Assessment feedback from the Grade Center To build course content The following tutorial provides information on how to upload documents to Kaltura and synchronize them with a video to create a Video Presentation. NOTE: Supported document formats for this method of uploading are: PPT/PPTX, PDF, doc/docx and xls/xlsx. If you need to upload additional videos, refer to the Kaltura Media Gallery tutorial. HOW TO UPLOAD DOCUMENTS TO KALTURA: Kaltura can be accessed from the Content Editor to build content, post in discussions, provide assessment feedback, etc. It is also available as a content type under Build Content. For this tutorial, Kaltura will be accessed via the Media Gallery. 1. Log into Blackboard and access your course. 2. From the Control Panel select Course Tools and then Media Gallery. bbsupport@cityu.edu Page 1

2 3. The Media Gallery will open in the content area to the right of the control panel. 4. From the Media Gallery select Add Media. 5. From the Add Media page in the Media Gallery click on Add New. 6. Select Video Presentation from the list of options. Page 2

3 7. On the Add Video Presentation page you will see media that is in your Media Gallery displayed. Click on the +Upload Document button. (If you have already uploaded your documents to Kaltura, skip to step 13 below). 8. On the Upload Document page, click on the Browse your desktop button. Page 3

4 9. Select the document from your computer and click Open. 10. After you upload your document, you can provide Tags (for future searching) or a Description. Click Save changes when finished. bbsupport@cityu.edu Page 4

5 11. To add additional files, click Upload another file, then on Browse your desktop. Repeat as many times as necessary to upload all of your files. 12. When finished uploading files, click on the Back to the video presentation creation flow (step 1) link at the top of the page. 13. On the Add Video Presentation page, select the media you want to use (Step 1) and click Next. Page 5

6 14. Next, select the document you want to use and click Next. If you don t see the document you want, check to see if there is more than one page of documents. You can change the rows displayed to view up to 500 documents on one page. bbsupport@cityu.edu Page 6

7 15. Your video presentation is now created your document appears next to your video. 16. To sync the video and document: a. Click Play either on the video or on the controls. Page 7

8 b. As the video is playing, hover your mouse over the document to view all of the pages (or slides). c. In the appropriate place of the video, click on the page you want to sync to select it and then click Sync Video/Slide. Page 8

9 d. A sync point is created in your video. e. Click Save to keep the sync point or Remove to get rid of it. f. You will receive a message that the sync point was saved. Click OK to continue. g. Repeat steps c-e to create as many sync points as needed. bbsupport@cityu.edu Page 9

10 17. When finished adding/saving all sync points, click Go To Media to view the finished video presentation. (Optionally, add a Description and Tags and click Save before clicking Go To Media). TIPS: - The Video Presentation has been added to your Media Gallery. Reference the Kaltura Media Gallery tutorial to share the Video Presentation with the course via the Mashup tool. - Your video presentation can be edited after uploading. If you have already shared the video presentation with the course, the video will be refreshed and automatically re-uploaded to reflect the changes. bbsupport@cityu.edu Page 10
