6 Articulate Engage Documentation Installing Articulate Engage To install Articulate Engage: 1. Download Articulate Engage. 2. Close all programs. 3. Make sure all prior versions of Engage (trial installs included) are un-installed. 4. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation program. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. Note: By default, Articulate Engage is installed to C:\Program Files\Articulate\Articulate Engage. 2

7 Getting Started Launching Articulate Engage To launch Articulate Engage: 1. Double-click the Articulate Engage shortcut icon on your desktop 2. Or go to Start -> All Programs -> Articulate -> Articulate Engage 3. When the application launches, you will see the Start Page The Start Page is the first window you will see when launching Articulate Engage. This window is used as a launching pad for the different tasks you need to access within the application. Click here for more information on the start page. 3

This window is used as a launching pad for the different tasks you need to access within the application. Create a new interaction: To create a new interaction click the "Create a new interaction" link. Clicking this link will bring up the "New Interaction" dialog that allow you to specify what interaction type you like to create. Click here for more information on Creating different Interaction types. Recent Interactions The "Recent Interactions" list the Engage interactions last worked on. This help you quickly access the most recent files. The Start Page will list the last 9 interactions worked on. To open an interaction not listed, simply click "More..." and navigate to the interaction file you would like to open. For example; If an interaction file is sent to you by another author, save the file to disk then click the "More..." link on the Start Page to navigate to and open the Engage interaction file. Tip: You can also open an interaction by double clicking the Engage project file (*.intr) in windows explorer or even Drag and Drop the *.intr file onto the Start Page. 4

10 Articulate Engage Documentation Creating new interactions To create interactions 1. To create a new interaction, click the "Create a new interaction" from the start page. 2. This will open the New Interaction window. 3. Select the interaction type you like to create and click OK. 4. To view a sample of any interaction type, click the "View Sample" link in the lower right corner. Interaction description Articulate Engage has many different interaction types for you to chose from. Below is a brief description of each interaction type and suggestion for usage. Click the interaction name to get in-depth information on how to work with each interaction type. Use the Process interaction to: Illustrate the steps of a process Walk users through a series of related items Explain a workflow or procedure The Labeled Graphic interaction allows users to identify the key elements of an image. 17 Getting Started Shortcut keys Shortcut keys To make Articulate Engage even quicker and easier to use, a number of shortcuts is available for common tasks. Below is a list of all the shortcut available in Engage. 19 Working with Interactions Working with Circle interactions Circle interactions This help topic will cover all options and features available while working with Circle interactions. Properties Feature description Interaction Title This is the interaction title for this project. This will display as the main interaction title in the published output. To change the title font, click the Interaction Properties button in the toolbar and select the Colors and Effects tab. The "Title Font:" setting will determine the font type used. Color Scheme A color scheme is assigned by default and applies to background color, button color etc. in the published output. To select a different color scheme, simply select another color from the pull-down list and preview to see the result. Left pane: Feature description Preview/Navigation control This is a visual representation on how the Circle will look after publish or in preview. The title for each layer is not displayed on top of the preview due to the limited size. To select any segment and/or layer simply click on the preview/navigation control. This preview will update as you add, delete and move layers and segments and will help you visualize what the published result will look like without having to preview. Interaction panel Edit Introduction This option allows you to edit the Introduction. The introduction is edited like all other step in the interaction and you can even add audio, images or video as required. The introduction is optional, and can be included or excluded in the output. To remove the Introduction step, click the Interaction Properties button in the toolbar and select the Circle Diagram tab. Check or un-check the "Introduction" checkbox to include or exclude the introduction step. Interaction Properties This option has the same behavior as clicking the Interaction Properties button in the toolbar and will bring up the Interaction Properties dialog. Layer panel Add Layer This will add a layer. The layer will always be added as the outmost layer but can be moved easily. This interaction type allow for 10 layers outside the Core layer. 15

20 Articulate Engage Documentation Delete Layer Move Layer Layer Color Rotation This will delete the layer currently selected. Deleting a layer will also delete the segments it contain. Note: The core layer cannot be deleted. You can move a layer in or out as needed. Note: The core layer cannot be moved. A color is selected by default as you create new layers. To change the default selection select a color of your choice from the Layer Color pull-down menu. This feature allow you to rotate (offset) a layer. This feature is helpful if you don't want the segment lines between layers to line up. You can select a number from the pull down menu or type in any (non fractional) number between Note: The offset is in degrees from the start of the 1st segment in the current layer. Segment panel Add Segment Delete Segment Move Segment Preview Segment This will add a new segment to the current layer. For each segment you can specify a title, segment text, narration, images and/or video. You can add up to 20 segment for each layer. However, adding that many segment to a layer might not look good in the published output. Note: Segments cannot be added to the Core layer or the Introduction. This will delete the selected segment. You can tell what segment is selected in the preview image as well as in the right pane. Note: Segments cannot be added to the Core layer or to the Introduction. A segment can be moved between layers as needed and you can also move the segments left and right to set the segment order within the layer. Note: Segments cannot be moved to the Core layer or to the Introduction. This selection will allow you to preview the current segment. Right pane: Feature description Segment Tabs Note: Segment Tabs are not available for the Introduction or the Core Layer since they don't have segments. Any other layer in the Circle diagram can have up to 10 segment each. The Segment tabs shows what Segment already exist and the default display order. To edit a Segment simply click the tab. You can also select any Segment by clicking "List" in the left corner. Clicking this option will display all Segments in a pull-down menu for easy and fast selection. To add a new Segment, click the "Add Segment" tab. Tip 1: Segments can be moved right and left by click and drag. Moving the tabs will affect the default display order. Tip 2: To navigate between Segments using the key board press Ctrl-Page Up/Down. 16

Tip: Hyperlinks are easy to add to your text by clicking the Hyperlink button in the formatting toolbar. Audio Add Media This feature allows you to easily add audio to each segment. Audio can be added by recording narration directly in Articulate Engage or by importing external audio files. Note: Click here to get more information on the Add Audio feature. The introduction has to be first so this tab cannot be moved. This selection allows you to preview the current step. 18
