2 Overview Turnitin Feedback Studio Turnitin Feedback Studio is an originality checker and feedback tool that is integrated into the LMS for select assignemnts. When students submit their work it is electronically reviewed for similarity to other submitted work within a vast online database. The tool also provides an advanced interface for leaving comments and other feedback on student work. It is important to note that a submission with a high similarity to other works is not a definitive account of plagiarism. There are many reasons why a submission may have a high similarity score. It is best practice to review each submission in its entirety to determine a fair grade. What Class Assignments use Turnitin? The easiest way to determine if an assignment uses Turnitin is to go to the Digital DropBox, accessed from the Course Menu. Any assignment that has Turnitin will have a notification next to the title of the assignment. To access the Turnitin interface, click View Uploaded Files. 2 P a g e

3 Viewing Submissions From the Assignment Inbox tab, you can view submissions, the score you have given the assignment, and the similarity percentage. Click the title of the paper to download the submitted file. To download all of the submitted assignments, a grade report, or all of the graded assignments, click the Download All dropdown and make a selection. Click the pencil icon to open the Feedback Studio interface and enter feedback. Click the percentage score to open the Feedback Studio interface and view the similarity report. 3 P a g e

4 Entering Grades and Feedback Open the Feedback Studio interface. You can enter a grade here. The grade you enter in the Feedback Studio interface will copy over the gradebook in the LMS. Use the arrows to navigate to other submissions. The student s name and the name of the submitted assignment will appear the top of the window. You can use the Grade Mark and Match tools to provide feedback and view the paper s similarity to other papers or sources. Use the Layers button at the top to toggle between displaying the two. 4 P a g e

5 Layers You can use layers to differentiate between the two different types of feedback. Click the Layers button on the sidebar to open the Active Layers and toggle between the two. You can also use the individual layer button for each type of feedback to toggle the display. 5 P a g e

6 Leaving Feedback To leave feedback on an assignment, click anywhere on the paper. In the balloon, select the kind of feedback you want to leave. QuickMarks QuickMarks are predefined notes that you can leave on a student s paper. You can use predefined QuickMarks or you can create your own for repeated usage. To use a QuickMark, click the checkbox Click and drag a QuickMark onto the assignment. Use the dropdown to select different QuickMark sets or to open the QuickMark Manager. You can also manage QuickMarks using the sidebar. 6 P a g e

7 Click the icon to open the QuickMarks tool. Click and drag a QuickMark onto the assignment or manage your QuickMark Sets. 7 P a g e

8 Comments To leave a comment, click a spot in the paper and select the Quote icon. Enter your Comment. You can use the formatting tools to apply bold, italics and underlining to your text, or to insert a link. To delete your comment click the trash can icon. To save your comment for future use as a Quick Mark, click Convert to QuickMark. Give your new QuickMark a title, choose a set, and click Save to save your comment. 8 P a g e

9 Inline Feedback To leave inline feedback, click a spot in the paper and select the T icon. Enter your feedback in the text box. Feedback Summary To leave a feedback summary, click the Feedback Summary icon in the sidebar. You can leave written feedback or record a voice comment. 9 P a g e

10 Match You can use the Similarity layer to view the assignment s similarity to other sources. Click the Match Overview icon to display the similaity score see what sources the paper matches. The All Sources icon allows you to see all matching sources. 10 P a g e

11 The Filter icon allows you to choose specific sources to exclude from the match results. Click the Excluded Sources icon to view and restore sources you have excluded. 11 P a g e
