2 Introduction Cengage Learning offers CengageNow (CNOW) course integration within an institutions Canvas. Instructors can create a course on Canvas and integrate a CNOW course as well as add direct links to homework assignments and chapters. Cengage Learning Canvas Integration offers: Seamless User Experience Both instructors and students access CNOW using LMS login credentials Instructors link a Canvas Account with a Cengage Instructor Account on the first cross over (this is a one-time event) Students are never prompted to create a CengageBrain account Content Customization with Deep Linking Audience Customize a course to include direct links to specific activities This document is designed for ITS, DSC, and instructors. 3 Create a Course This section explains how to create a course, including how to create a module and adding the external tool. 5 Adding an External Tool This section explains how to add an external tool, the CengageNOW URL, to a Module: Step 1 Click the plus icon. Result: The Add Items page displays. 2 Select Assignments. Result: A drop down menu displays. Page 5 9/22/2014

Create an Integrated CNOW Course Now that the instructor has connected his or her Canvas and Cengage Learning account, he or she can create an integrated CNOW course in Canvas.

9 Create an Integrated CNOW Course Now that the instructor has connected his or her Canvas and Cengage Learning account, he or she can create an integrated CNOW course in Canvas. These instructions are for creating a course using the Create a new CNOW course option in the Content Selector. Step 1 There are three options: Create a new CengageNOW Course: Instructors use this option if the instructor has never used CNOW before. Copy from my existing CengageNOW course: This option will provide a list of courses that is based on the same product and linked to the instructor s Cengage Instructor Account. Copy from colleague s existing CengageNOW course: Instructors need the course key to copy Select Create a new CengageNOW course. Result: Details displays for the CNOW course. Page 9 9/22/2014

Content Customization and Deep Linking in Canvas Instructors have the option to customize courses by adding deep links to specific learning activities in CNOW.

Before adding deep links to Canvas, instructors should add assignments to CNOW. Add Assignment Options in CNOW This section shows instructors the first steps to adding assignments in CNOW. Documentation and other help guides exist to guide instructors through this process. This table is preface to that existing documentation. 13 Adding the Content Selector Deep Link Follow these steps to add the Content Selector to a module in Canvas: Step 1 Create a module or select a module to add Content Selector link. Click plus icon. Result: The Add item page displays. 2 Select Assignments drop down menu. Result: The Add drop down menu displays. Page 13 9/22/2014

Add Links to Specific Learning Activities Instructors may add deep links to Learning Activities directly to modules within the Canvas course.

NOTE: The advantage of adding deep links directly to a Canvas course is that it enables a student to click a chapter or assignment link to navigate to that chapter or assignment within CNOW, instead of needing to navigate to it within the CNOW course.
