1 Banner is a software program containing forms that are used to store and maintain the college s administrative and academic records. This handout is meant to acclimate you to the look and feel of Banner 7 so that you will be prepared to perform the various duties of your job that rely upon banner. Logging onto Banner 7: 1. Double click on the Banner 7 icon on your desktop: or through Internet Explorer go to the address: 2. At the login screen that appears, fill in the appropriate information. Below is an example of the login information for John Doe: USERNAME = assigned login name, usually first initial last name (i.e. nchrisman) PASSWORD = assigned password that can be changed DATABASE = leave blank When you have successfully logged in you will see the Banner 7 main screen, which looks similar to the screenshot below. My Banner contains any of forms that you have saved in your profile. Later you will learn how to create and manage a Personal Menu. All menus that you currently have access to are listed in this pane. You will notice that the menu headings are also show above. My Links contains any websites that you have saved in your profile. Later you will learn how to create and manage the links.
2 Below is a screenshot of the SFASLST form. Banner 7 1. Enter term or select the drop down arrow to select the appropriate term. The term code is set up at YYYYMM i.e. Fall 2006 semester is meaning the month that the semester begins in. 2. Enter the CRN or select the drop down arrow to search for a CRN. 3. The class roster will show for the CRN that you have selected.
3 Save button: Any changes you make within Banner can be saved this way. If you forget to save changes and try to exit from a form, it will prompt you to save your changes. 2. Rollback: You can click on this button to clear information within a form. By doing this, you can stay within the same form and look up information on another record. 3. Select: This will allow you to select that record (works the same as double clicking on a field). This makes it easier for you to populate fields. 4. Insert Record: Generally used when a faculty member needs to insert a class into a student s plan of study. 5. Delete Record: Again, mainly used when a faculty member needs to delete a class from a student s plan of study. 6. Previous Record: Allows you to navigate to the previous record on a form. 7. Next Record: Allows you to navigate to the next record on a form. 8. Previous Block: Allows you to navigate to the previous block within a form. 9. Next Block: Allows you to navigate to the next block within a form. 10. Enter a Query: Used when you want to enter information to run a query. 11. Run a Query: Used when you want to execute a query (works the same as pressing F8). 12. Cancel a Query: Exits out of the Query mode. 13. View / Send Message: This has not been enabled in Banner yet. 14. Print: Allows you to print the screen. It really only does a screen print, so that whatever you see on the screen is what will print. 15. Online Help: Will generate an to Banner support. Instead, we ask that you contact Paul Katchmar, Colleen Cornmire, or AJ Stepanick regarding any Banner inquiries. 16. Close: Closes out of the current open form.
4 The SOAIDEN form is the Person Search form. Below is a screenshot of the SOAIDEN form in Banner 7: An awesome feature is the Case Sensitive option on the bottom. If you choose No, then the search will find all results without regard for character case (upper/lower). To execute a Person Search, meaning to list out the results of a search: 1. Type in the information you wish to search upon. 2. In the Query menu at the top of the screen, select Execute or press F8. On this form you may type in any combination of the First, Last, and Middle name. You may use the % character in your searches as a wildcard. Below are some potential results with a % search. Search In Last Name Field Case Sensitive Results For Last Name Field Jod% Y Joda, Jodie, Jodizickwicz, Jod, etc. %jod% N Jod, Azjod, Bijodlin, Jodie, etc.
5 The SFAREGS form is the Student Registration form. Below is a screenshot of the SFAREGS form in Banner 7: You will be asked to input the term and then the ID number of the student. This form will show you all classes that the student registered for by term. (Ctrl-PgDn fills the information in at the bottom of the page.)
6 The SOAZADV form is the Student Advisement screen (Plan of Study). Below is a screenshot of the SOAZADV form in Banner 7: You will be asked to input the ID number of the student. This will show you all classes that the student has been registered for and what classes they need to register for to complete their degree requirements. Ctrl-PgDn will fill in the bottom half of this form.
7 The SOAZPLC form lists the Student Placement test scores. Below is a screenshot of the SOAZPLC form in Banner 7: You will be asked to input the ID number of the student. This will show the placement test(s) that the student took, how they did on the test, and the recommendation for course placement. Ctrl-PgDn will fill in the bottom half of this form.
8 The SIAASGQ form lists a faculty teaching schedule by term. Below is a screenshot of the SIAASGQ form in Banner 7: You will be asked to input the ID number of the faculty member. This will show all courses that the instructor is teaching as well as day, time, and class location. Click in the box below CRN to fill in the bottom portion of the form.
9 GUAPMNU is the Personal Menu Maintenance form. A personal menu is like a list of shortcuts to the forms, jobs, menus, and QuickFlows you use most often. Below is a screenshot of what the GUAPMNU form looks like: Every form is listed alphabetically in the left pane. To put one of the forms into you re My Banner: 1. Scroll through the list of forms until you find the form you want. 2. Click once on the form name. The letters should turn white. You may select multiple form names this way. 3. Once you have selected the forms you want in you re My Banner, click on this arrow Now all the form names you selected should appear in the right pane. 4. Exit out of the form by clicking on the Exit button Be sure to say Yes to Saving! You may now access your My Banner by going to the main screen and clicking on the My Banner option.
10 To edit your My Links, from the main screen click on File and then click on Preferences. You can create links to web pages that you frequently use. 1. Description: Enter the description you wish to see on the My Links screen for the web page that you are entering. 2. Default Value: cannot be changed 3. User Value: Enter the complete web address of the page that you want to add
11 Common Forms GUAPMNU Personal Menu Maintenance Form, create and maintain a personal menu. GUAPSWD Oracle Password Change Form, changes current password to one of your choice. SECAVAL SFAGRDE SFASLST SHATERM SHACRSE Section/Seat Availability Form, information about course sections that are open. Term Code Subject Course Number Student Final/Midterm Grade Form, view student midterm and final grades by term. Term Code Student Number Cntrl page down to bring up the information. Class Roster Form, enter grades for a class and display class rosters. Term Code CRN Term Sequence Course History Form, view student course history by term. Student Number Term Code (optional, if not specified, all terms are displayed from most recent) Term Course Summary Form, lists course work for a student by term. Student Number Term Code (optional, if not specified, all terms are displayed from most recent) SHADEGR Degrees And Other Formal Awards Form, GPA and information about progress towards degree. Student Number Degree Sequence Number SOAIDEN Person Search Form, search allowed on first, last, or middle name (or combo of 3). some search string SOAZADV SPAIDEN SPAPERS SROSATI SSASECT Advisement Plan of Study Form, advisement screen includes placement information. Student Number Identification Form, create and maintain a recruit s ID Number, name, and address. Student Number General Person Form, maintain information on sex, birth date, veteran s data, etc. Student Number Section Schedule, lists all sections, open and closed, for a term code. Term Code Schedule Form, maintain term schedule of classes with CRN, meetings times, and instructor. Term Code CRN
