May 10, 2013 Michael Wesolowski Purpose: of presentation Website: review of current navigation, organization, and tour of functions. navigation, outside forces, and planning addressing challenges 2 Website: MHAUS online is our front door. 24-hour access from any device to info, events, groups, donate, membership, materials. Internationally used. Always hungry for fresh content. Organized over two websites. 3

2 Navigation: how we get around two sites Currently the main navigation bar and links in the header are used to access pages on both the information website and permission-based website. 4 5 Organization: MHAUS over two websites Information website: primary pages you are most familiar with. info divided by primary audiences of healthcare professionals and patients, which is further sorted: before, during, and after an MH episode. other pages: such as faqs, NAMHR, and NMSIS. 6 Organization: MHAUS over two websites Permission based website: requires our members to sign in and give additional info to become a member or participate in a group. primarily used to manage membership and store also used to manage contact forms, the calendar, bulk , certificates, donations, events and sessions, groups, quizzes, and surveys.

4 outside forces Half our visitors start their experience on our website from the homepage and the rest enter our site on other pages from searches on Bing, Google, and Yahoo thereby making every page a homepage and making search engine optimization (SEO) a challenge. 10 outside forces What is (SEO) Search Engine Optimization: Ongoing actions we take to improve our website ranking score on Bing, Google, Yahoo, etc. Includes: content organization, coding, using good keywords on pages and in blog posts, good link exchanges with other relevant sites, and planning of content and structure to retain hard-earned rank planning The website is just one of our publications: Educational materials: procedure manuals Newsletters: and print Project materials: Scientific Conf Proceedings Supplies: hotline phone stickers, alert bands Website: both websites.

5 planning Current planning strategy for publications: Update existing titles on schedule Reaction to customer need or other Part of a project current planning is unwritten Staff casually discusses the following points: Big picture view of publications now and future Roles, merits, relevancy of each publication Relationships to other in-house publications Relations to outside publications, forces, and timing Intended audience and development opportunities Navigation: change thinking about permission based website and design treatment. Outside forces: search engine optimization Planning: consider planning publications 15

6 16 navigation Rather than just adding functions, thinking about how we shepherd people up to their next level of interest made it obvious to change the permissionbased website into a place to "get involved with MHAUS" --when thinking this way, the permissionbased website has a multi-use purpose instead of many lone functions. navigation Adding e commerce treatments to permission-based website to indicate this is where to get involved with MHAUS, yet maintain brand elements. 17 design direction for the header outside forces Keep up search engine optimization by managing content organization, coding, keywords on pages and in blog posts, link exchanges with other relevant sites, and planning of content and structure to retain hard-earned rank. 18

Forming a committee to plan publications: to step back and review all MHAUS publication in mass to identify holes, unmet need, missing points of view from patients and healthcare professionals. 20 One last thing: I need your permission to move ahead with design changes to permissionbased website to make it easier to use. 21
