3 INTRODUCTION In this graded project, you ll use your skills in Word and Excel to create a proposal, along with an embedded worksheet, for the ABC Engineering Company. The proposal will include a letterhead that you ll save as a separate file. Here s the order in which you ll complete this project: 1. Create a letterhead. 2. Create a sample document (the proposal). 3. Create and embed an Excel worksheet into the sample document. When you complete the entire project, you ll submit it to the school for grading. If you re unclear on any of the steps contained in this project, feel free to review the information from study units you ve already completed. CREATING THE DOCUMENT Letterhead Using Microsoft Word, you ll prepare a letterhead for your document. 1. Type the company name (ABC Engineering Company) in Times New Roman, 22-point, bold, italic, centered. 2. Beneath the company name, use the Line tool in the Insert tab s Shapes button to draw two horizontal lines. 3. Below the lines, type the company address (1552 Carbondale Road Mechanicsburg, PA 17055) in Times New Roman, 14-point, bold, centered. 4. Click on the upper left-hand corner of the letterhead and insert a ClipArt image that reflects the character of your imaginary company. (You may wish to choose a different image than the one shown in Figure 1.) 5. Save the file as letterhead.docx. 1

Main Text Now, using the letterhead file as a starting point, you ll create a proposal letter for a customer of the ABC Engineering Company. 1. Reduce the spacing after each paragraph to 0 on the Page Layout tab. 2. Following the address in the letterhead, press Enter three times. 3. In Arial 12-point, type the proposal letter as shown in Figure 2. Be sure to use the same spacing as shown in this figure. 2 Integrating Word with Excel

5 FIGURE 2 Text of the Proposal Letter 4. Print a hard copy of your document and check your work for errors. If you don t have a printer, be sure to doublecheck your work on the computer screen. Your project grade will be based on how accurately you input information and how closely you followed the instructions. Graded Project 3

CREATING AND EMBEDDING A WORKSHEET Make sure that you ve saved your document (proposal.docx) before you begin creating a worksheet. 1. Open Microsoft Excel. 4 Integrating Word with Excel

7 2. Enter data into the worksheet as follows: a. Using Figure 4 as a reference, enter the data in range B1:F2. Text should be bold and centered in each column. b. Referring to Figure 4, enter the data in range A3:B5. Be sure to adjust Column A to fit the data. FIGURE 4 Enter the data into the worksheet as shown. The remaining cells will contain formulas. 3. Format the cells in range C3:F5 for currency using the Accounting Number Format with no decimal points. 4. Insert formulas in range C3:F5 as follows: a. In the Materials column (C), enter a formula to calculate material cost at 15 times the job size (column B). b. In the Labor column (D), enter a formula to calculate labor cost at 10 times the job size (column B). c. In the O&P (Overhead and Profit) column (E), enter a formula to calculate O&P at 0.25 times the sum of materials and labor. d. In the Total column (F), enter a formula to calculate total cost as the sum of columns C, D, and E. 5. Print a hard copy of your document and check your work for errors. If you don t have a printer, be sure to doublecheck your work on the computer screen. 6. Correct any errors you find. 7. Save the file as scenarios.xlsx. Graded Project 5

8 Now you ll embed the worksheet into your proposal letter. 1. Make sure that you have the letter open. 2. Click on the space between paragraphs in the body of the letter. 3. Insert the Microsoft Excel worksheet proposal.xlsx as an embedded object into your letter. 4. Print a hard copy of your document and check your work for errors. If you don t have a printer, be sure to doublecheck your work on the computer screen. Your document should now look like Figure Correct any errors you find. 6. Save the modified file as proposal.docx. INSPECTING YOUR COMPLETED FILES Congratulations! Now that you ve completed the project for Integrating Word with Excel, you re ready to apply what you ve learned in your own enterprises. All that you have left to do is inspect your completed files one last time and send them to the school for grading. Proofread your work. Check your files for errors. Your project grade will be based on the accuracy with which you entered and edited the information. Make sure your documents are free of errors, and that you closely followed the instructions for any changes. 6 Integrating Word with Excel

Go to and enter the number in the Examination Number box. With the next dialog box that appears, you ll be able to attach your files. Be sure to send three files: letterhead.docx, scenarios.xlsx, and proposal.docx. Graded Project 7
