1 Web Update Panel User Manual The Web Update Panel is part of an HCC built Content Management System (CMS) which is utilized to easily update content on HCC Websites starting with the Public Website - The Web Update Panel was designed with ease of use in mind and the feature set is integrated into other HCC systems to provide functionality that is as easy to manipulate and accessible as possible. 2 Getting Started Documentation that will help you utilize the system and give you more information that you might need in adding content can be found by clicking on the folder icon in the sidebar menu. To begin viewing information in the Dashboard, select a Web Unit to display by changing the drop down. Feature Tabs Select a Feature To select a different feature, just click on the tab with the feature name. View Other Web Unit Content If you would like to view other web unit content and they are not in the drop down list, click on the all button and the list will be repopulated with all available web units. Navigation Icons Documentation Return to Preview Edit Add New Content Save Sort NOTE: An individual must have rights to see edit icon to be able to edit content. 3 Dashboard The dashboard should give you an overview of the features for a specific web unit that is utilized by the Content Management System (CMS) such as a FAQ or a Documents Folder. Edit Icon Preview Content Feature Set: Unit Description Tagline Main Content FAQ Calendar Blog Documents Ads Gallery Name of Office, Department, Program, etc. This is what shows in the Web Unit drop down list. Moto / Slogan that is shown on home page of web unit The content block that is displayed on home page Frequently Asked Questions linked on home page Calendar displayed on home page Blog page on news.hutchcc.edu Document Folder Displayed on menu. Folder is accessed through the Common Drive under WebDocs Folder Rotating Announcement or Ads Area on home page Picture gallery on home page. 4 Dashboard - Editing Save Changes Selector to Turn Feature On or Off Return to Preview Mode Turn Feature On / Off To turn a feature on or off, just select the appropriate button to the left of the word On or Off. NOTE: Editors can only change tagline and selectors to turn on and off features. Hutchinson Community College CMS Version 1.0 4

5 Content Blocks Previewing If there are multiple content block, then a selector will be available above the title and additional content blocks can be selected by clicking the drop down arrow and selecting a different title. 7 Ads Previewing Ad blocks are an animated content block that rotates through all available associated ads. If there are multiple ads, then a selector will be available above the title and additional ads can be selected by clicking the drop down arrow and selecting a different title. Edit Icon Ads Considerations Ads block can be utilized either as an announcement tool or for posting updates. In general, ads should be time sensitive and should be changed at least periodically to keep fresh. Rotation of Ads If there is more than 1 ad, the ads will rotate automatically. 8 Ads Editing Save Changes Add Sort Return to Preview Mode Delete Ad To delete an ad: Hover over ad and click on the delete icon then confirm delete. This step is not reversible. Add an Ad To add an ad: Click on the add content ion. This will put a new ad on the page at the bottom. HTML Editor The edit box allows for some formatting by utilizing the icon in the top row. Because ads need to vary more in style and look than content blocks or even FAQs, there are additional features allowed for in the HTML Editor. For example, the edit of an ad allows for the specific sizing of text by pressing this icon. 9 Ads Sorting Save Changes Edit Return to Preview Mode Drag and Drop This mode allows the editor to change the order in which ads are displayed. To adjust the order drag and drop the line containing the ad that you would like to change. Once you have adjusted the order, click the Save Icon to make your changes permanent. 10 FAQ Previewing FAQ are utilized to show a list of common questions and their related answers in a concise, consolidated form. Edit Icon Show Answer To see the answer to the related question just click anywhere on the question and the answer will drop down. Answer Content Answer Blocks are similar in functionality to a content block and recommended that answers not be more than a page worth of material. Hutchinson Community College CMS Version

To adjust the order drag and drop the line containing the FAQ question that you would like to change. Once you have adjusted the order, click the Save Icon to make your changes permanent. 13 Auxiliary Feature Requests Additional Features will be added to the system as time and resource allow however if you have any features request please pass them on to ITS and we will try to accommodate them as soon as we can. Features will be implemented based on anticipation of overall use of feature and impact of feature to the institution. Bugs Bugs within the system will be addressed as soon as possible. Please report any bugs to the Web Programmer or an ITS staff member. Bugs will be resolved based on priority of impact to the website and impact to the institution. Please be patient with us as we work through the issues of a new CMS system. Data Custodians: Not all content that is on the public website is in content blocks, ads, or faq. If the content is highly stylized, most likely it is maintained either by the Webmaster or a Data Custodian. Human Resources Instruction Office Residence Life Personnel / Employee Directory, Departmental Directory Curriculum Information, Course Syllabi, Course Information Student Organizations & Clubs As additional Data Driven Systems are implemented, additional Data Custodians will be added.
