Maybe if I build this UI really well, I ll get to work on larger, cooler projects. Becoming a better programmer by absorbing information however she can: reading books, blogs, and tech websites; trying new technologies that she s discovered and been told about by her team lead Impress her team with a well done UI that has some groovy bits to it, in the hopes of getting meatier projects in the future Create a UI that users rave about (but she s not sure how to get that feedback) Gain enough skill in enough technologies to support her side project, a mobile application B. 4 on ELUCN ON-EN EVELOPE My primary role is in in back end development, mostly around performance and scalability, but we re short-staffed on my current project, so I am also building the UI. I used ngular a little bit at my last job, spent a lot of time copy/pasting code examples. Wants to make a beautiful, functional, impressive UI...but not get stuck doing UI dev forever Wants plug-and-play UI as much as possible Needs quick answers when he gets stuck Works with a designer who is also part-time on the project, so needs to be able to depend on what he gets B. S., M. S. in Computer Science 20 years experience Specializes in Java; knows Python, C#, a little HML5, CSS, ngular Eclipse IE, but is interested in trying tom for front-end work Juggling essentially 2 full-time jobs by taking on the UI work in addition to his primary role Unfamiliar w/ the technologies, processes, tools (and doesn t want to look dumb for asking) oesn t trust his front-end tools yet, spends a lot of time fiddling around with them and looking up how to do things that are second nature to him in Eclipse Having to do a lot of investigation to find the components he needs -- he doesn t know design-y terminology Is a fan of examples that he can reverse-engineer If he doesn t see a pattern that matches what he s trying to do, he ll take a pattern and retrofit it to do what he wants, even if it s not the right application of the pattern Knows that his UI needs to be responsive and suitable for mobile too -- how can he be sure? By the end of the project, he s grooving more on UI dev than he expected, might contribute something back if there s a P project not on the critical path that he can pick at in his spare time oesn t totally believe that HML/CSS are real programming, so the code he writes might not meet community standards, but he might be up for some guidelines

My UI dev is less excited -- he s all just point me to the code. B. Wants to spend more time on the information architecture and workflows of her product and leave the small details of common components (forms, buttons, etc.) to a dependable pattern library Wants to focus on design and research and just point her UI developer to the components he needs to pull in to build her design Wants to know those components are solid -- she doesn t have enough resources to test them o eventually get comfortable enough with the open source process to contribute patterns, wireframes, mockups UX inclusion in the product planning and time allotted for UX in the product schedule Working against the idea that the UX is just about making a picture or a final image of a UI ime and access to customers to guide and inform decision making Has pretty strict brand guidelines she has to follow Unsure how to contribute to open source if she s not a coder ields questions and issues that come up from development in or chat or a conference call if it becomes too laborious

Not sure how to get started Previous attempts at open source were met with jerks being rude Lone designer/front-end developer in my company, want to reach out to a community of like-minded souls Keeps an eye on IC as best he/she can, but might miss something eads mailing list regularly
