International coverage of all fields of engineering and technology, including chemical and materials engineering. Web of Science ( present) Indexes >8,000 peer-reviewed journals. Now includes conferences from Provides bibliographic data and cited references. Also allows for Citation Searching SciFinder Web Chemical Abs ( present) The online version of Chemical Abstracts: all aspects of pure and applied chemistry. CSA Technology Research ( present) Provides a single mega-file of all the unique records available through its components: the CSA Materials Research Database with METADEX, CSA High Technology Research Database with Aerospace, and the CSA Engineering Research Database

12 Examples of full-text handbook products >2000 full-text handbooks covering a wide range of topics including: biochemistry and biotechnology, chemical engineering, metals & metallurgy, plastic and rubber, safety, health & hygiene, and oil & gas engineering. CRCnetBASE is the new one-stop location for all previous netbase dbs, such as ENGnetBASE, CHEMLIBnetBASE, MATERIALSnetBASE, NANOnetBASE, etc. Provides access to thousands of full-text handbooks and monographs. Only CHEMnetBASE and POLYMERSnetBASE remain as individual netbase dbs.

14 Using RSS Feeds RSS = Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summaries a format for delivering regularly changing web content use it for getting regular updates of journal tables-of-contents, subject searches on databases, etc popular RSS reader: Google Reader

Grey Literature: Information produced on all levels of gov t, academics, business, and industry in electronic and print formats not controlled by commercial publishing, i.e., where publishing is not the primary activity of the producing body. Examples: gov t tech reports, pre-prints, standards, patents, newsletters, gov t docs, conf papers, bulletins, theses, dissertations ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Full Text (1861- ) PhD and Master s theses from >1,000 NA and EU schools. Full-text of most theses from November 1996 available to U of A users (many earlier ones available as well!) Science.gov Science.gov searches over 40 databases and over 2000 selected websites, offering 200 million pages of authoritative U.S. government science information, including research and development results.

16 Standards: Standards and Patents we have online access to the full-text of >56,800 of the following standards sets: API, ASHRAE, ASME, ASTM, AWS, CSA, EIA, GPA, IEEE, ISA, ISO, NACE, NFPA, TAPPI search standards via IHS Standards Expert db Patents: 80% of patent data not published elsewhere search the USPTO db first we have full-text access to most national patents (US, Canada, European, etc.)
