How to access Factiva 1. Go to Library MultiSearch: http://www.mq.edu.au/about/campus-services-and-facilities/library 2. Click on Databases tab 3. Enter Factiva in the search box 4. Click on Search 5.

Browse/search current news sources by country, region or industry 1. On Factiva s Main Search Page, go to the News Pages tab on the top search bar and click on Factiva Pages. 2.

Find a publication and select an article in the results list by clicking on the title. 4.

Select a Country or Industry from the drop-down list on the left side of the page. 3. Scroll down to listings for current daily newspapers. Find a publication and select an article in the results list by clicking on the title. 4. Alternatively, search the Newstand by entering your keywords in the search box and click the Run Search button. 5. Or modify the results list by changing the date or news category in the drop-down lists below each publication. Note: The date drop-down list goes back two weeks from current date. Select a date from the Date drop-down list. 4. Click on the Search button. Find newspaper and full-text articles by subject or keyword 1.

5 Browse selected newspapers or journals by date 1. Go to Factiva s Main Search Page 2. Enter the code sn= and the title of the newspaper or journal, eg. Australian Financial Review in the Free Text Search box. 3. Select a date from the Date drop-down list. 4. Click on the Search button. Find newspaper and full-text articles by subject or keyword 1. Enter your keywords in the Free Text Search box and choose a date. 2. You can also conduct a subject search within a particular publication in the Free Text Search box by using connectors between your search terms and the title, eg.

Select options as required Companies Subject Industries Region Language 4.

Select More Options as required Where to search (Full Article, Headline and Lead Paragraph, Headline or Byline) Types of articles to exclude (Republished news and/or Recurring pricing and market data and/or Obituaries, sports, calendars ) Order of results by selecting from Sort by drop-down list (Most recent first or Relevance) 5. View, Save, Print, & E-mail Results Articles can be viewed, saved, printed, or e-mailed individually by clicking on a title or as a group by ticking the boxes beside the articles of interest. 1.

Use the Display Options drop down arrow to select how you want to view the article Full Article Keywords in Context Full Article/Report plus Indexing Headline, Lead Paragraph, plus Indexing Output options Display Options 2. Click on the appropriate icon at top as necessary PDF Download articles in PDF format RTF: Download articles in Rich Text Format Disk: Format for Saving the article (opens new browser window) Printer: Format for Printing the article (opens new browser window) Envelope: Selected Articles 4. For example, if you are looking for a company called Telstra, its DJ (Dow Jones Instrument Code) is jxtls.

8 Find company share prices 1. Click on the Companies/Markets tab and then select Quotes. 2. In Select instrument box, select Stocks, Funds etc 3. Insert DJ (Dow Jones Instrument Code) for Stocks in the Symbol box. For example, if you are looking for a company called Telstra, its DJ (Dow Jones Instrument Code) is jxtls. jx stands for the Dow Jones Australian Securities Exchange TLS is the ASX code (Australian Securities Exchange) for Telstra Ltd If you don t know the correct company symbol, click on the Symbol Lookup button; enter the company name and run a search. Select the code you want from the results list; then click Add to Symbol list. MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY 7

4. Select Current Quote or Historical Quote then frequency, date and format.

From the drop-down menu you can select a number of different reports e.g. detailed company report, custom report, financial health or ratio comparison report.
